As far as I am concerned, you don’t have to agree with same-sex marriage. If the rest of the nation does it, well, you can decide not to do it in your own church.

That’s not the problem, there is no danger of ‘gay marriage’ being accepted in many faiths, in my opinion. And if some do accept it, they can’t punish any one else who doesn’t, like you say. The problem is if and when the state will punish those faiths that will never accept it. Considering 30 years ago ‘gay marriage’ wasn’t even an issue, I don’t think that is out of the realm of possibility.
