An Argentine priest kidnapped and tortured during the South American countrys dirty war said Friday that he has since reconciled with Pope Francis.
Jesuit Fr. Francisco Jalics was kidnapped in 1976 along with a fellow priest by the military junta who ran the government as a dictatorship from 1976-1983, Argentinas dirty war. The Associated Press reported Friday that the priest, through a statement on the German Jesuits website, said he and Francis met years later, believed to be in 2000, to discuss the events.
Following that, we celebrated Mass publicly together and hugged solemnly. I am reconciled to the events and consider the matter to be closed, he said in the statement.
Support NCR's coverage of the conclave. Donate now! Jalics kidnapping came while Francis (then Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio) served at the Jesuit provincial in the country (1973-1979).
Since his ascendance to the papacy, some have renewed criticism of his decision to mandate that Jesuits remain in their roles and at their parishes, instead of entering into political activism and base communities.
The AP report also stated that Bergoglio withdrew support for Jalics and Fr. Orlando Yorio, after both refused his order to abandon their work in the slums for their own safety. The kidnappers killed Yorio, but Jalics survived and now lives in southern Germany.
The "other F-word" (Fascist) is already being applied to him on the left-wing blogs.
Problem is: the one man that "the narrative" cannot ignore --- Fr. Francisco Jalic, who was kidnapped and tortured by Pinochet's secret police during the Dirty War --- says he does not consider Pope Francis guilty of Pinochet's crimes, and considers the matter closed.
Read an bookmark: this is going to come up again and again, since the Left has decided to attack this Pope from Day One.
The Left doesn't want dialogue. They want the Pope's guts in a Hefty bag.
Of interest to you.
Why is Pinochet of Chile getting the blame for Argentina’s Dirty War? Other than the usual leftist cant of “It’s Goldberg’s fault.”
Wrong country. If you want to make stuff up, you could at least pretend to do some research...
Augusto Pinochet Ugarte was president of Chile, not Argentina. Jorge Rafael Videla led the junta that ruled Argentina following the coup of March 24, 1976.
Pinochet gave valuable intelligence to the British during the Falklands War.
Mrs. D’s error is probably mea culpa. I report to her on what I am seeing from the left. I am sure I wrongly used Pinochet’s name when I told her that initial attack was on.
Thank you for finding this and posting! I’m bookmarking it.
What are you talking about?
right country, wrong dictator. Other than that obviously innocent mistake what are you claiming is ‘made up’?
But of course. The left never operates in truth. Just look at how our current regime works. And lies work so well!
A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.
― Winston Churchill
I offer my apologies to all. Pinochet was Chile, not Argentina. I'll go sit in the corner with a pointy Biden-hat on my head.
Translation: the two priests were getting involved with pro-Communist agitation, Bergoglio ordered them to get back to doing their real jobs and stop endangering themselves. Sounds like Bergoglio gave them good advice.
Of course, the Marxists will try to paint Bergoglio as being a death-squad leader.
Coffee. Must have coffee.
Mods will sometimes correct typos. Mistakes, not so much. If it does not get corrected, I suggest you have it pulled, then repost. Love the pic.
And besides, Pinochet was a hero and a great man, despite what the Leftist revisionists would have people think.
If we didn’t make mistakes we would not be human. Now take off the hat, come out of the corner, and have a cookie.
If they, “reconciled,” that means he thinks the Pope was responsible for it or complicit.
Uh, Pinochet was from Chile, not Argentina. If you want to bash Catholics, at least get the narrative right..
