How can we tell that the conclave made a good decision in elevating Jorge Mario Bergoglio to the papacy? Exhibit A (through at least D): liberals are annoyed. But leftists' problems with Pope Francis, well-emblazoned as they were within hours of the announcement, reveal some crucial truths about the Church that even many Catholics are loath to confront.
When it came to Benedict XVI, the willfully uninformed chattering class had a field day -- rather, a field eight years -- with the thoroughly discredited "Nazi pope" meme. (We might call noted luminary and theologian Susan Sarandon the "Nazi ambassadrix" in this effort.) In the same vein, media outlets in all corners are itching to label the new Holy Father, and despisers of the office may find purchase in Francis's hard-line -- or, to put it more accurately, quite Catholic -- stance on "gay rights" and homosexual acts.
The caviling has already started. Indeed, as Saint Peter's Square erupted with applause, and as the newly elected Pope Francis gave his first address to the Catholic faithful, Cavan Sieczkowski of the Huffington Post was already flexing his fingers for the first of a procession of disappointed jeremiads. "Pope Francis Against Gay Marriage, Gay Adoption," Sieczkowski's headline blared, with the new pontiff's vestments still settling on his shoulders. He quotes GLAAD President Herndon Graddick, who decries a "Catholic hierarchy ... in need of desperate reform."
There's more to this lashing out than just "Francis the Homophobe." From the parade of hand-wringing gay activists in Sieczkowski's piece to the aggrieved commentators at Mother Jones, what really dismays the dismayed is the inflexibility not just of Francis, but of the Church herself.

I’ll believe that when vocal, public pro-homo, pro-abort politicians who call themselves Catholic are denied participation in the Eucharist.
They can start with Plugs Biden when he goes to the Vatican next week.
I am really interested to see if Biden will receive communion next week at the installation mass.
It saddens me that our political representative is a man who is CINO and uses his “catholicism” to lead people astray... that is evil. In the end however, I have faith in God’s justice and His mercy.
Pope Francis is evidence that the wisdom of the Holy Spirit is far superior in picking the Bishop of Rome than the low information American voter is in picking a president.

Liberals are happiest when they are annoyed. They'd have very little to live for if they weren't somehow identified with some kind of cause that creates "outrage."
Being annoyed refreshes them and nourishes their perverted minds.
Don’t know what he’ll do with that embarrassment of a VEEP we have, but the Pope IS Catholic. He’s had dealings with the Argentinian Gov’t.

Fortunately, Cardinals are not elected via popular vote of the membership of the Church. As long as Popes select the Cardinals the Church should remain conservative and true to its faith.
This, I believe, is the reason Catholicism has lasted as long as it has. Catholics have always had a Pope, a father for the church, someone who commands everyone below him to follow the Lord's word. There are plenty of examples throughout history of Popes who let the flock astray, but Catholicism's strength is through its leadership, IMO.
The homosexual lobbies want us to capitulate on allowing women into the priesthood, allowing priests to marry, even disbanding the hierarchy, but in reality, the reason for Catholic success through millenia is that we've stood by these principles.
I don't take it personally when people lambaste my faith for some black sheep. They point and say, "See! If you let priest's marry, they'd never molest children," and to that, I say that in the grand scheme of things, with millions of followers around the world, a handful or dirty dozen homosexual pederasts are bound to wiggle into the priesthood. The overwhelming majority of priests are pious, upright men whose faith is greater than mine could ever be.
I will continue to pray for our new Pope. By all observations, he appears to be a strong, traditional Catholic who will lead the church further into the future in adherence to our 2,000 year history.
Many of our Protestant brothers and sisters have learned painful lessons in recent years about what happens when you try and run your Church as a democracy.
I’m not sure if the Roman Catholic church has been running itself much differently from Protestant churches.
Well I am hopeful. If the homosexuals are against him, that’s a BIG plus. Gives me hope that maybe the majority of the Cardinals are not homosexuals-because I can’t believe they would have elected ‘the enemy’. Lets hope he cleans the church of these abominatons-they are not legitimate clergy anyway. Francis’s first impression was that of a strong, solid, no-nonsense man. He looked like a soldier standing there-reminded me of those images of Patton. I hope so, we need a soldier to save the Church from perversion-and the world from Islam
