From the article: he Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released a statement Monday regarding an LDS missionary who was sent home to answer felony charges of child rape, which allegedly occurred before he left for the mission. Brandon Cordero faces two counts of rape of a child, according to court documents from the Second Judicial District Court of Utah. He was booked into the Davis County Jail on February 4. The documents allege the sexual misconduct was between Cordero and a female child under the age of 14. The acts allegedly occurred from November of 2010 through May of 2012, according to the same documents.

You two are real pieces of work.

After all of the Jim Bakers and Swaggarts .... the endless parade of TV evangalists who extol the virtues of Christianity but are personally bankrupt of those virtues.

To somehow point out one pervert who happened to make it through the LDS missionary program and try to smear the 60,000 god-fearing beautiful young men and women preaching the word of Christ.

You both are exemplify the hypocrites in Christ’s warnings who will swallow a camel while straining at a gnat.

WOW. My post did NOT mention lds, I only mentioned the child.

I said how sad for the child.

Are you so full of loathing for anyone who mentions anything about your feelings, that you dismiss the child?

I will repeat what I said - how sad for the child.

I stand firm on my statement. How sad for the child.

#1...I didn't know that you regarded child rape as comparative to "swallow[ing] a camel while straining at a gnat."

Surely this is of greater import than mere gnat-straining? Please tell me you didn't just reduce the violence done to this child to that?

#2 If news sources publishing this story are "straining gnats" & "swallowing camels" ... then what are you doing in highlighting Christian TV hosts from the 1980s? (Out of all the Christian TV hosts?)

Is news just slow in coming to you? Is Jim Baker's exploits -- along with Jimmy Swaggart's -- somehow "breaking news" to you?

How old was the accused and the victim at the time of the first occurrence?

If she was barely under 14 and he was16, and it was consensual, my outrage would be tempered somewhat.

to point out one pervert

Actually, teppe, Free Republic is an equal opportunity site when it comes to pointing out sexual illegalities of any denominational stripe. I've been here a long time, and there have been articles denouncing inappropriate behavior from all kinds of denominations.

There is a zero toleration climate here on FR. It leads to occasional denominational squabbles, but the bottom line is always whether the problem actually happened.

Now, let's say that Cordero is 20 now and the girl is 16 now. That means he was 18 and she was 14 at the time this began.

"He was a senior in high school and she was a freshman in high school when this began" is the proper defense of this young man. Since his family is strangely calling the rape charges "inaccurate", I would think that we're dealing with a statuatory offense based on an upper classman/freshman relationship.

My time as an Army Chaplain served me well so far as getting to know those far too young men that Mormons call "elders". They are no more "elders" than an 80 year old is a "younger".

The Lds church only decided to allow male 18 yo missionaries last October -- and any of those 18 yo who have moved forward toward that end haven't finished their missionary training...which means that ALL of the Lds male missionaries out there RIGHT NOW are at least 19 years old...which was their 2012 standard.

Ha! Oh teppe. Christ didn’t teach any of the hogwash these cultists teach. Please don’t abuse His name like that.

The alleged perp is now 20,so it is possible he was 17 at the time of the first occurrence.

Is there physical evidence?

It appears the age of consent for women is 14 in Utah. Since there is less than a seven year age difference, the prosecutor may have a tough time proving the girl was under 14 at the time sex occurred.

I might be hesitant to convict on a rape charge without proof the girl was under 14 at the time of any alleged sexual abuse.

I suspect this will be pled out on a reduced charged.

Your strawman's on fire, Colofornian.

You cherry-pick the scumbag out of the 60,000 missionaries to smear the lot with your unrelenting bile and unreasoning hate.

I have never been idiot enough to claim all Mormons are sinless, or perfect, or any such nonsense. There are certainly bad actors in the Mormon church.

I never met any, however, who pissed away as much time tearing down their neighbor as you do. My quote on the subject would refer to "...the beam in thine own eye".

Please don’t abuse His name like that.

"Love thy neighbor as thyself."

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

I guess we know who's doing the abusing here - at least those of us with a modicum of intelligence and goodwill towards our fellow men.

I'm a neighbor; you tear me down...Preach to yourself your own message of this post.

I have never been idiot enough to claim all Mormons are sinless, or perfect, or any such nonsense.

So child rape is now simply -- in your euphemistic PR campaign -- a "sin" or lack of "perfect"[ion]???

Sick reductionism on your part.

You cherry-pick the scumbag out of the 60,000 missionaries...

Be my guest & find all those stories out there about non-Mormon Christian missionaries being arrested on rape charges. Since Lds are 1.7% of the population & Christians are almost 75%...if all ratios were equal, you should be able to find DOZENS of examples every 2-3 years!

I guess we know who's doing the abusing here

Well, again this shows a "Quick! Look over there! mentality"

Rather sickly when a person is more provoked over re-posting a news article from Fox than the rape itself.

Why don't ya go tell the victim how upset you are with a given poster -- vs. your rather lack of provocation -- about her perpetrator??? (You've called me a lot worse names on this thread than the rapist, which you've defined as a mere "SCUMBAG?")

Reminds me of the ruckus on campuses when the pro-lifers have gone there showing pictures of aborted babies. People get more upset over the messengers -- those showing the pictures -- than the people who invaded the wombs that resulted in the consequences of the pictures.

(You'd fit well in that crowd with your similar reactions)

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

You haven't done anything else but cast stones my way in every post on any thread I've posted. (That must mean, per your quotation, that you're sinless)... Go ahead, Jim...show us all the way...

...those of us with a modicum of intelligence and goodwill towards our fellow men.

So since you size up religious disagreement with a fave one-word accusation of yours...and you disagree with me ALL the time...Would that mean that same thing is what you issue my way? And how do you reconcile that with supposed "goodwill toward" posters like me?

If you so into "goodwill" toward others, why no personal exemplifying that on these threads?

Isn’t all sin the same to God?

Isn’t all sin the same to God?

(No, it isn't)

And the following is in no way "downplaying" sin as "little" vs. "big" sins...no such thing...had each of us only committed a single smaller-degreed sin over our lifetimes, these would still warrant a substitutionary sacrifice by the Son of God on the cross on our behalf.

1. Blaspheming the Holy Spirit is the most obvious example...an unforgivable sin per the Bible.

2. There are many references indicating "degrees" of sin...

Simply to make my point, I'll suffice it to just cite another one -- also from Jesus' lips:

13 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. 14 But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you. (Luke 10:13-14)

You are aware that Colofornian did not write the article, it is a FOX NEWS article.

the beam in thine own eye

That theme and "God helps those that help themselves", may be the two most miss quoted and least understood of Biblical themes, and one of them isn't even in the Bible.

You left out ...

“Judge with a righteous judgment.”

Judging righteously, it is easy for anyone to see that perverting the nature of Eternal God by recasting Him as a mere creature is abusing all Christ taught.
