Yes, great humility.

I dearly love Benedict. He has been a great wind blowing the corruption out of the church.

May the Holy Spirit continue to renew His church in the election of the new pastor of pastors.

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.
V. Send forth your Spirit, and they shall be created.
R. And You shall renew the face of the earth.

Let us pray.

O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen

Since there are no obvious choices for Benedicts replacement, the Holy Spirit will let us know.

Damn. That means “he who shall not be named” is ready to step out. We live in interesting times, indeed!

Oh good grief, it just means the Pope is old and unhealthy and is doing the right thing by stepping aside. There is no reason to think it's a signal of the anti-Christ, end times, or anything else other than a new Pope.

I don’t ask this somewhat rhetorical question to be snarky, but, shouldn’t his, (and all of our) strength come from God? This seems highly unusual, especially coming from a Pope that is such a traditionalist.

I've thought the same thing. But it's not really a contradiction. There is room here for free will and human judgement, regarding the decision to resign because of incapacitation. The pope has prayed about it, and according to him, this is the decision that he feels called to.

The previous pope believed that he could witness to the value of suffering and aging, by staying in office.

Both are reasonable decisions.

We agree to disagree.

I’d imagine that all the Cardinals in the world gathered to Rome to elect the next Pope would be a target the Jihadists would dream about attacking and attempting to annihilate. Think of the implications...

I don't put any weight in that prophecy, but I have one of my own.

My prophesy is, many new,"Christ Will Soon Surrender & Evacuate" books will be published.

First, they'll explain why they've been wrong in the past but are right this time. Have they tried, "Matthew 24 was misunderstood due to a punctuation error in the 1611 KJV translation" yet? That takes care of why they were wrong in the past and correct now with one simple explanation people would probably accept. Something similar happened in "Raiders of the Lost Ark" which led the Nazis to dig in the wrong place and everyone thought that was reasonable.

Someone can probably get a good deal of mileage out of the body of King Richard III having recently been found to get back to the link between the coming anti-Christ and the British Royals, too. With a Catholic priest as their starting point, (even though "everyone knows" no Catholic has been right about anything since around 68 AD), this breaths new life into the prophecy market Harold Camping brought to a screaching halt.

For "Surrender & Evacuate" authors, meat's back on the menu, boys.

I think JPII is who I had in mind with my comment. Also, he’s resigning as Pope, not as a Christian, as he points out he will continue on in prayer.

I wonder if he has an idea of who his replacement will be? Interesting times.

interestingly, as JPII got old, there were calls for his resignation. Cardinal Ratzinger stuck by him. Pope John Paul II's frailty, to ME, seemed to be a message about how the bishop of Rome is a man at the end, buoyed up by the Holy Spirit. When I saw Pope JP II, this man who in his prime was an alpin skier, a big tough guy, hunched over and moving with obvious pain, it seemed to me that the ONLY thing moving him, was God's grace. No man by himself could do what he did in when in such an age.

JP II was a lesson in that we should give up to God and ask the Holy Spirit to carry us

Pope Benedict's resignation is another example of a person humbly stating that the glory of God is paramount. in a different way

In another article they said he had announced that he’d participate in the conclave, so, I think he’ll have some influence on who the next Pope is.

Which fits right into a lot of Catholic prophecy.

Yesterday’s opening prayer for the Fifth Sunday of Ordinary Time strikes me as appropriate for this moment:

Keep your family safe, O Lord, with unfailing care, that, relying solely on the hope of heavenly grace, they may be defended always by your protection. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
