Call Him 'The God Father': Husband and Dad Will Become Catholic Priest -- and Take Vow of Celibacy

John Cornelius, who is married, will be ordained this weekend -- and sex-free life begins

John Cornelius will be ordained a Roman Catholic priest this weekend — and with the blessing of his wife they're giving up their sex life. Cornelius, a father of three, will become the first married Roman Catholic priest in New York — and Sharyl, his wife of 33-years, has agreed to the whole celibacy thing.

“We have decided to do that voluntarily,” Cornelius told WGRZ-TV. “I have always had friends that are Roman Catholic priests and I appreciate what they've given up to serve God and the priesthood.”

Cornelius, 64, is a former Episcopalian priest who converted three years ago to Catholicism. He said his old church had gotten too liberal for him.

by the way, it is Protestants, not Catholics that allow remarriage after a legitimate divorce.....not biblical.

by the way, it is Catholics, not Protestants, that came up with something called an ANNULMENT to get out of a marriage.

If one day claim to be Pentecostal, the next day Messianic Jewish, the next day Mormon, the next day Modalist and continuously practice taqqiyah, then...

Correction, Elsie....

by the way, it is Catholics, not Protestants, that came up with something called an ANNULMENT to get out of a marriage a divorce without calling it a divorce and admitting to sinning.

I think it is quite disingenuous for Roman Catholics to disparage others as "woefully uninformed on the church" when they discuss the subject of divorce and annulments. Though, on paper, the "rules" seem to be reasonable, we know from practice that these rules are stretched frequently. Case in point, the infamous Ted Kennedy. He was able to get an annulment after his divorce from his first wife, Joan, from whom he had been married for twenty-five years and had four children, on the grounds that, "He never intended to be faithful to his wife."! So, he's the one who wanted an annulment so he could marry his current Catholic wife and it was granted to the very person who was the one guilty of adultery - Teddy. According to http://www.ewtn.com/vexperts/showmessage.asp?number=582101:

In any case, if a Catholic receives an annulment based on some defect of the vows, then they are free to remarry, provided that defect is not going to repeat itself in the new marriage. The Church cannot marry someone knowing they are entering an invalid marriage. So, any Catholic in that situation would have to assure the Church that the reason for the defect in the marriage receiving the Decree of Nullity will not re-occur in the marriage they want to make. That would apply to the Senator and anyone in a similar situation. Presumably that was done.

Is it any wonder why the practice is called "Catholic Divorce"? Apparently, the "pretty involved procedure" is not so much if you have enough money and/or influence.

Disingenuous? It’s downright disgusting the ways they find to finesse God’s clear commandments.

And then they get on their moral high horse about birth control.

Of course, considering the lack of large Catholic families any more, we can see that how THAT is going, too.

97+ % of the people at that time were illiterate.... Nobody knows that for sure because nobody was there to see it. It's pure speculation on the part of those making the claim.

there were VERY FEW books or documents to be had by the general public...there was really no need to learn to read because there was nothing to read. As education advanced in the years following Christs establishment of the Catholic church, monastaries were founded throughout the world, and through them, education and thus literacy spread widely. The Catholic church is largely responsible for the spread of knowledge and literacy from the time of Christ to the present.

Joseph could have died unbaptized... COULD have?

yes, I mean could have.....Christ was his son......do you think that Christ, knowing that baptism was absolutely necessary for salvation would not have either baptized him or merely willed him baptized.you seem to have little confidence in what Christ did and what He could do. You also did not finish my statement as mI stated that if he were not baptized, he would be judged as were all Jews at he time....I'm still right.

an annulment does not dissolve a marriage, it declares that there was not a valid marriage in the first place... Therefore; logically; if there was some diddling between the 'marriage' and the 'annulment'; there'd be some FORNICATION to be forgiven

BINGO.....in your world yes.....in the Catholic Church..NO

“knowing that baptism was absolutely necessary for salvation”

And of course, water baptism is not necessary for salvation.

"do you seriously think that the Bereans checked existing scripture"

"Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so."

Do you seriously think Luke lied or God lied when He inspired this account?????

“there were VERY FEW books or documents to be had by the general public...there was really no need to learn to read because there was nothing to read.”

I just posted a list of 27 1st century authors, whose works still survive. Sorry the links don’t work, but you could look them up on Wikipedia.

There was a language called Greek that was widespread at the time. It was only one of many languages that were written down at the time.

The synagogue. I'm sure they heard it on a weekly basis.

no one ever said that they would not be able to get the old testament scriptures. Studying Scripture, not handing down fairy tales by word of mouth.

you do realize, I assume, is that is exactly where scripture came from..... if you feard the word of God, at that time, you did not record the words on your cell phone, you didn't even write it down (you couldn't write), but you remembered what had been said and PASSED IT ALONG, by word, to others in your family or circle of friends......that is tradition which became scripture....just think about it for a moment
