Was John Lennon a Genius?
You make the call!

yeah... at writing three and a half minute toe tappers....
Lennon was brilliant like Lenin was brilliant. Nothing more dangerous than a smart evil person.
Imagine.....No Liberals.........
I’ve got the tee shirt.
He married Yoko Ono.....
He was an above average pop song writer.
“For no particular reason, somebody shot that young man ... “
I guess he was smart enough to go from being a punk in Liverpool to being bigger than Jesus.
Is that Genius?
Well, if in 2313 we are still humming his music—and everyone knows the tune, then I guess we will know the answer.
I can whistle “A Little Night Music” in the local middle school and a lot of the kids could finish the bar. Not so much with “Why don’t we do it in the road.”
I still think “Imagine” is Communism set to music. It should rank there with the “Internationale.”
Lennon's name might be in the credits for "Why Don't We Do It In The Road," but at that point in the Beatles' career a songwriting credit of "Lennon & McCartney" was more accurately "Lennon OR McCartney." I'm pretty sure that Paul deserves all the credit (or blame) for that one.
He was genius enough to still be a subject of heated debate 25 years after his death.
“I reject you F-ers what the F do you know!?!?
A bunch of middle class faggots with long hair and trendy cloths,
Look, I'm not your F-ing parents and I'm sick of uptight hippies knocking at my door with the F-ing peace symbol I don't owe you F-ers anything and all I've got to say is F youuuuuuu,
The sky is bluuuuuuuuuue.”
That's only the first verse but the song ends with a final chorus:
“Genius is pain,
genius is paiiiiiiiin.
Genius is pain...ARRRRRGH AHHHHH...genius is pain...”
So I guess he was;)
I presume you don't mean Mozart.
McCartney was closed to genius than Lennon was.
McCartney was closer to genius than Lennon was.
Almost all of the Lennon-McCartney songs were one or the other. Let’s Do It In The Road was all Lennon though it still carried the Lennon-McCartney credit.
Paul was arguably the best musician in the group, and IMO he had the best singing voice.
I love pointing out to people that there is only one Beatles song which includes a drum solo, and that it isn’t Ringo playing it.
