Joseph Smith, Jun. nearly got himself drowned when the canoe he was in overturned...
one of the other dumbies with him swore he saw the devil on the bank of the river...
Thus the myth that the devil ruled the waters...rivers, seas, lakes etc..
and wanted to kill the Mormons through drowning..
and thus the rule against swimming for mormon mishies...
However it didnt stop them from going on ships across the seas to Ireland and England and bringing back lots of good looking concubines...err seekers of the gospel yerning for Zion...
and it doesnt stop them from flying across the seas now...
However me and my family are safe cause wez be Gentiles...
