Well first of all I am not a he. Second I did read A Study in Scarlet. Third I like the Holmes stories by Doyle because Holmes was a genius and logical. Fourth the most handsome and amazing actor that ever lived was Jeremy Brett, now deceased. He played Sherlock Holmes in the long running English TV series and from time to time I like to feast my eyes on his noble chiseled features and be amazed that he was far and away the best Sherlock Holmes OF ALL TIME.
SO THERE!
,
ah, In case you did not notice this is the religion forum and this is a religious discussion, posting about mormonISM has been going on on FR for more than a decade.....
get with the program.
And your point is what?
Ya know, this is about the third similar kind of comment I've seen since the Election...and it's not like there's been an overwhelming # of Mormon threads...
What's interesting in these comments is that it shows the poster assumes they know the motivation of why these threads are posted.
Their assumption is tantamount to us...
...approaching Mormon missionaries everywhere in April of 2012...
...telling them that they could stop preaching that all Catholics are "apostates"...
...since Santorum, a Catholic, had just dropped out running vs. Romney...
See the parallel?
To think that we proclaim truth about Mormonism only as some political leverage -- and not for the sake of truth-telling itself -- would be the same error as assuming that 55,000 Lds missionaries were out and about 2011-2012 only to expose the Catholic "heresies" of Santorum & Gingrich...anytime they rang a Catholic doorbell...
We can start with a box “where did we come from,” continue on to another box “Who/how did the creator reveal himself,” move to “what is required of me/others (and how to influence them.)” and finish with “Perfection.”
Do we influence with swords, verbal barbs, or living examples?
(and of course, my diagram will have a 613-commandment path and a parallel, essential 7-commandment path.... ;-)
and yet you took the time to enter the thread you don’t care about and post to it. that’s just special.
Well, we know Jesus opted out of the sword approach...hence, "he who lives by the sword, dies by it."
Barbs?
Well, I do wish some FREEPERs would quit trying to "outnice" Jesus, who verbally worked over the legalists of that time...the Pharisees & teachers of the law...
Calling them "children of Satan" (John 8)...vipers...whitewashed tombstones...etc (Matt 23) wasn't exactly encouragement via edification...
And a "living examples" ONLY approach could wind up glorifying an unidentified "god" in an era where people embrace multiple "gods."
Yes, but did you ever give a written or online critique of Doyle's A Study in Scarlet, dissing him for including a subject of no interest to you (Mormonism) in that book? (Yes? No?)
Jesus answered, The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.
1 John 3:21-24
Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him. And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. The one who keeps Gods commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.
And do Catholics, who tend to be even more rote and ritualistic about including a "religious" dimension of their lives...
Then why did you post this?
Why not just ignore the thread??
Sorry; but ol' Mitt is STILL a quite visible member of a hellish heresy and will do anything to promote it.
2 Corinthians 11:12
And I will keep on doing what I am doing
in order to cut the ground from under those
who want an opportunity to be considered equal
with us in the things they boast about.
Spoken like a True Catgholic.
Spoken like a True Catholic.
Yes.
But mainly with TRUTH.
A LOT of it can be found here:
I still don’t care what Mormons believe.
I’ll go ahead and start here https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQQgjdyCK1XbPBUdT1ECh8jGzzhwKjIIb1wFcSXjuKSBzzNNG7E

That’s about all a Jew needs...to start with anyway.
(Well Sir Arthur Conan Doyle did -- to a limited extent -- and based upon your FREEPname, that alone should be enough to satisfy you)
ALL: This is REALLY the bottom-line "upshot" of Mormonism...
This question asks all Mormons, based upon the Book of Mormon verse of being saved by grace only "AFTER ALL you can do." (2 Nephi 25:23)
Mormons...anyone...have you done ALL you can do?
spiritually?
physically?
emotionally?
relationally?
intellectually?
Yes?
No?
If "NO," per the Mormon gospel, then grace won't "kick in" for you...for ye will be saved by grace only AFTER all you can do.
You, Mormon, are therefore in a lost outer darkness state unless you can attain perfection in all dimensions of your life!!!
Did you know that Mormons believe that EVERYBODY intially goes to this very same "spirit world" -- that's supposedly not very far from us?
Here's a FR article posted from an official Lds church mag: The Spirit World, Our Next Home
Hence, Mormons teach:
1. The Mormon spirit world is "on this earth."
2. President Ezra Taft Benson declared that the spirit world is not far away. Sometimes the veil between this life and the life beyond becomes very thin."
3. The wicked go to "spirit prison," which is not eternal hell.
4. Peter refers to the spirit world as prison, and it is for some. (1 Pet. 3:1820, 1 Pet. 4:6.) However, to the Mormon, spirit prison is a "higher university" -- it chiefly being a place of learning and waiting, not a place of suffering. [Oh. First Mormons eliminate the eternality of hell. Then they redefine actually as a "school," which I suppose for some students of our public schools, the same thing as "hell."]
5. In short, the spirit world is the temporary home of the spirits of all mankind, whether they are good or evil. Thus Joseph Smith could declare that the righteous and the wicked all go to the same world of spirits until the resurrection. (Teachings, p. 310.) Yet some have wondered why Jesus promised the dying thief that after his death he would join the Savior in paradise. The Prophet Joseph taught: King James translators make it out to say paradise. But what is paradise?
6. So, instead of teaching that the righteous go to heaven, or really any "degree of salvation," Mormonism actually emphasizes a "dumbing down" where "all mankind" originally goes to the same place, no matter what! And guess what? God isn't there: it is not the place where God the Father, the resurrected Lord, and other resurrected beings dwell. Rather, it is an intermediate condition or state where people await the resurrectiona sphere where disembodied spirits live in one of several conditions according to what their mortal lives have merited."
7. So, so far, trusting in Jesus Christ and relating to Jesus Christ amounts to what your life merits. You're just a cosmic Boy Scout.
8. Thus, Mormons remain "missionaries" on the other side. It's no place of rest as the Bible describes the other side. Yup, for Mormons ...the spirit world is the place where disembodied spirits go. It is a tangible, substantial sphere incorporated with our earth, the focal point of a massive missionary effort in which we share.
Thus, they get to continue to earn their way to heaven by trying to bump up others along the way!
