On the day that Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone was installed as the head of the San Francisco archdiocese, the former director of the archdiocesan office of Catholic Charities published an op-ed column warning that the incoming prelate should not stress Catholic teachings regarding the sanctity of marriage.
No one expects him to be silent on church teaching, but he has a choice to make, wrote Brian Cahill in the San Francisco Chronicle. He continued:
He can continue to be the aggressive, outspoken leader of the American Catholic bishops in their effort to prevent civil gay marriage, or he can be the shepherd of his flock. He can't be both, and if he tries, he will fail.
Our ninth archbishop of San Francisco
“Lovoe the sinner; hate the sin.”
I really don’t think Arcxhbishop Cordileone (Heart of the Lion) will sway from that.
Catholic charities director? Who died and made him pope?
Oops!
Love the sinner; hate the sin.
I really dont think Archbishop Cordileone (Heart of the Lion) will sway from that.
Since the so called gay community did not trespass against me, I have no need to forgive them their sins. Those that they molest and rape are the only ones that can forgive them and they have to ask forgiveness. I don't have to power to forgive someone that hurt someone else..only the victim can do that... But if the gay community is sinning against Gods word, who can forgive them? Not me...Where in scripture does it say we must forgive those that hurt others?
Jesus let followers walk when they couldn’t accept his teachings.
Mr. Cahill is obviously ignorant of the job of the Christian "shepherd". It is not all that different than a regular one. One of the most important duties is to lead his flock AWAY from deadly and pernicious threats to their well being. Homosexual acts are such threats - forbidden by Almighty God who promises judgment - and, if the shepherd truly loves and cares for his flock, he will not look the other way when one of them heads for the edge of a cliff. Apparently, Cahill's idea of a shepherd is one that JOINS his flock as they walk off that cliff.
He won't. I've never heard such anti-Biblical nonsense from him at his former place of service (Cathedral of Christ the Light in Oakland).
Remember him in your prayers.
It appears the guy is saying he hopes the Archbiship won’t try to act too Catholic. (What’s a few lost souls when we can have one big happy worldly congregation.
I will.
The Catholic Church is far too “welcoming,” which disqualifies it as a true Church.
Same with any professed “church” of Jesus Christ. He demanded standards. If you didn’t meet them, then don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
