The Prodigal Daughter: Katie Holmes Returns To Catholicism, Suri Banned From Scientology-Ecumenical

Following the quick and unexpected settlement of her divorce proceedings, Katie Holmes has been doing a bit of house-cleaning in her personal life, part of which includes her return to the Catholic faith, five years after leaving it in favor of soon-to-be ex-husband Tom Cruise’s Scientology.

Holmes’ return to Catholicism is evident due to her registration as a parishioner at the Church of St. Francis Xavier in New York City. “Everyone is thrilled to have Katie join us,” a member of the church’s choir told the Huffington Post. “She has not yet attended a service, but when she does she will be welcomed with open arms.”...

The warmth extended to Holmes from the Catholic Church contrasts Scientology’s reaction to the divorce. Part of the divorce settlement precludes the couple’s daughter, Suri, from being exposed to Scientology at all. “Under terms of the settlement, Suri isn’t permitted to be exposed to anything Scientology related and this includes going to any Scientology churches, parties, etc. Katie made sure that this was ironclad in the agreement,” a source told RadarOnline.

I initially thought this was a good thing, then I read that the parish she's heading to is liberal. From the fire into the frying pan, instead of jumping to safety in a conservative parish

Well good for Katy.
Should have had better sense than to get mixed up with a nut job from that cult.

For the love of God, it’s at least a Catholic Church! She and her daughter are out of Scientology, which is great.

A lot of people would say my parish is “liberal,” but it has us in it, and a lot of others who are serious about faith and morals and accurate catechesis. And everyone is fervent in good works. I took a batch of kids to Mass today, just because I felt like it, and Father was late because he was visiting a nursing home. We all - 35 people or so - sang hymns for half an hour until he arrived to say Mass. It was lovely, almost like being Presbyterian again, but for the absence of 4-part harmony.

I hope the parish will help Katie Holmes remember what it was like to be a regular person, and expose her daughter to normal life for the first time.

When the choir member quoted in the article said Katie hasn’t yet attended “services”, I suspected this is a liberal parish.

*sigh* Well, we must thank God for this conversion anyway & pray that she continues to seek the fullness of Truth.

Wasn’t Nicole Kidman also (at least nominally) Catholic?

What is it with Cruise and Catholic girls?

Welcome back, sister. The parish is Jesuit, so it’s iffy, but it is a beautiful old large stone Gothic pile of a church. I remember going there a couple of times when I was in NY, and I can recall the homosexual couple smooching in the pew in front of me at the Kiss of Peace, which was a bit off-putting, to say the least...

Yes, I think Nicole and Keith Urban had a nominally Catholic wedding ... and a nominally Catholic marriage, if that, since someone else was hired to gestate their child.

Who knows, with Hollyweirders? I read biographies of movie and tv stars ... got one of James Garner from the library just last week. Most of them are pretty mixed up.

I wish them the best. Just about anything would be better than where they’ve come from.

Even if she became an atheist, it would be an improvement.

Is Scientology liberal? I’ve read some about it and I still don’t get it.

Scientology is a cult with a capital “C” extremely dangerous and evil....

Believe me you won’t “get it “ or understand it....Even if explained to you...

You would think someone is playing a game with you that people actually believe such nonsense....but they do....

Read the wiki article about it.

All I know about celebs is what I’m confronted with from the racks in the grocery check-out aisle, LOL! But it’s amazing how all their crap insinuates itself into our “culture”, even when you try to avoid it.

I read magazines while waiting to pay for groceries, too. And sometimes in the dentist’s office!

It makes me wonder what happened with Cruise and/or Scientology. I can't jut see him, so quickly, letting Suri go, his own daughter basically leaving his cult! Holmes better be careful.

My wife suspects that Katie must have something GOOD (bad) against him, some info, knowledge, and proof. I have a hard time believing it was settled this quickly.
