The Reflections of Brigham Young on the Nature of Man and the State [What Mitt's profs taught him]
BYU Studies ^ | 1962 | J. Keith Melville

Posted on 07/05/2012 7:41:04 PM PDT by Colofornian

The pre-mortal period is a period of organization, growth, and purposeful development...This organization of the spirits from the "intelligence" which is co-eternal with God is for the express purpose of exaltation, to become "Gods like himself..."...

...Brigham Young said:...The Lord has organized mankind for the purpose of increasing in that intelligence and truth...until he is capable of creating worlds on worlds, and becoming gods...Believing that "the power of choice of all intelligent inherit from the Gods of eternity...is innate."...

...Complete independence of action is an attribution of deity, and only those most valiant during their probation on earth who will be crowned as gods in the Celestial Kingdom will be unfettered.

Mormonism discovered in the individual a god in embryo: a being whose essence is progression and whose eternal existence as an intelligence demands freedom...

...From the human position he pragmatically accepted the constitutional justification of slavery. He also justified Negro servitude as a penalty resulting from the violation of the cosmic system of law. He believed that the curse began with Cain because Cain denied Abel his earthly posterity. Instead of killing Cain, the Lord placed a mark on him and his posterity, withholding the priesthood from the negroes until "all the other descendants of Adam have received the promises and enjoyed the blessings of the priesthood thereof." This curse was perpetuated through the lineage of Ham into the post-diluvian period, and Brigham Young accepted the additional curse of Ham's posterity to be the "servants of servants" until God decrees elsewise...

“But I still suggest you try to not impugn their faithfulness to Christ just because you see them stumbling sometimes.”

What in Heaven's name are you speaking about? Care to point out where I “impun[ed] their faithfulness to Christ...” by sarcastically calling them “Obama supporters”? What does this have to do with the “faithfulness of Christ”?

You make reference to a religion forum. I just respond to posts on the Free Republic forum. If there exists more than one forum here, then I guess I should be more careful.

Call me Oblivious.

Elsie, my comment is no more outlandish than the anti-Romney folks calling those of us who have decided to support and vote for the duly elected GOP presidential primary winner, Mitt Romney as: “Romneybots”, “RINO’s”, “GOP-e’s” and a host of other derogatory names.

My guess is you have no problem with these names hurled at us...right?

Mitt wants to LEAD me.

He wants to make VERY important decisions that will affect me.

He will promise to analyze the data available to him, and, like any good business man, make judgements KNOWING that some of his data will be unreliable.

He promises that he'll rely on his GOD to help him with discernment.

He is still a MORMON; having made sworn oaths to his church.

I do not want him leading me.

Or Barry either.

What has happened on HIS watch is abominable.

I don't want to wait to see what will happen under Mitt's direction.

He is the most famous Mormon alive today.

And, after this is all over, he can go on Dancing with the Politicians, and be even MORE famous!!

(Sorry Marie...)

If I do vote for Romney now, I’m not going to delude myself that he’s some kind of savior.

Oh?

He just MIGHT be!!

I know that MORMONs sure think he will be!!!

"He (Joseph Smith) is the man through whom God has spoken... yet I would not like to call him a savior, though in a certain capacity he was a god to us, and is to the nations of the earth, and will continue to be."
 - Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses 8:321

"You call us fools; but the day will be, gentlemen and ladies, whether you belong to this Church or not, when you will prize brother Joseph Smith as the Prophet of the Living God, and look upon him as a god..."
- Herber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 5:88

"If we get our salvation, we shall have to pass by him [Joseph Smith]; if we enter our glory, it will be through the authority he has received. We cannot get around him [Joseph Smith]"
- (as quoted in 1988 Melchizedek Priesthood Study Guide, p. 142)

There is "no salvation without accepting Joseph Smith. If Joseph Smith was verily a prophet, and if he told the truth...no man can reject that testimony without incurring the most dreadful consequences, for he cannot enter the kingdom of God"
- Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 1, p.190

"I tell you, Joseph holds the keys, and none of us can get into the celestial kingdom without passing by him. We have not got rid of him, but he stands there as the sentinel, holding the keys of the kingdom of God; and there are many of them beside him. I tell you, if we get past those who have mingled with us, and know us best, and have a right to know us best, probably we can pass all other sentinels as far as it is necessary, or as far as we may desire. But I tell you, the pinch will be with those that have mingled with us, stood next to us, weighed our spirits, tried us, and proven us: there will be a pinch, in my view, to get past them. The others, perhaps, will say, If brother Joseph is satisfied with you, you may pass. If it is all right with him, it is all right with me. Then if Joseph shall say to a man, or if brother Brigham say to a man, I forgive you your sins, "Whosoever sins ye remit they are remitted unto them;" if you who have suffered and felt the weight of transgression—if you have generosity enough to forgive the sinner, I will forgive him: you cannot have more generosity than I have. I have given you power to forgive sins, and when the Lord gives a gift, he does not take it back again."
 - Orson Hyde, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 6, p.154-155

"It is because the Lord called Joseph Smith that salvation is again available to mortal men.... If it had not been for Joseph Smith and the restoration, there would be no salvation,"
 - Bruce McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, p. 396, 670

They succeeded in killing Joseph, but he had finished his work.
He was a servant of God, and gave us the Book of Mormon.
He said the Bible was right in the main, but, through the translators and others, many precious portions were suppressed, and several other portions were wrongly translated; and now his testimony is in force, for he has sealed it with his blood.
As I have frequently told them, no man in this dispensation will enter the courts of heaven, without the approbation of the Prophet Joseph Smith, Jun.
Who has made this so?
Have I?
Have this people?
Have the world?
No; but the Lord Jehovah has decreed it.
If I ever pass into the heavenly courts, it will be by the consent of the Prophet Joseph.
If you ever pass through the gates into the Holy City, you will do so upon his certificate that you are worthy to pass.
Can you pass without his inspection?
No; neither can any person in this dispensation, which is the dispensation of the fulness of times.
In this generation, and in all the generations that are to come, everyone will have to undergo the scrutiny of this Prophet.
They say that they killed Joseph, and they will yet come with their hats under their arms and bend to him; but what good will it do them, unless they repent?
They can come in a certain way and find favor, but will they?
 Brigham Young,

But to use the religion forum to make political attacks ...

UMmm... not quite.

I am 'using' the religion forum to EXPOSE MORMONism that a CERTAIN politician holds dear.

I can't control where the chips are falling.

...is something I would have expected from the media vermin but didn't expect that here on FR religion forum threads.

Have you SEEN the outrageous things folks have said about MUSLIMS and politics here??

You got it!

Sticks and stones, may break my bones, but words just show that the accusers have nothing to show the jury.

If I worried about names (my 'precious' reputation) being sent my way; I'd try to prove that the charges are untrue; taking up LOTS of my time and getting me AWAY from my message.

(See the tactic? Don't fall for it!)

I use it to make ‘parts’ and fix little things like the dials on microwaves and taoster ovens, when the plastic sheath which fits over the metal dial pot splits from age: apply a touch of super glue, to fit the two sides bakc together tightly, then wrap a flattened bead of JB Weld around the shaft; when it dries it is like a part of the original plastic only harder. Prevents the piece form splitting again.

That’s just it Elsie, a few people will repent and pray while the rest of the nation is going a long with all the things that are happening. California wants to redefine what it means to be a parent. The military is now promoting gays and soon to force priests to marry gays and I’ve heard calls of brining back the draft.

Im torn as to which way to go. I have conservative pro life catholic priests practically begging people to vote for Romney on Facebook and when I come here, I hear you’ll have blood on you hands if you vote Romney.

It really feels like if I vote for Romney, I’m taking the rattlesnake poison over the bullet. I know that’s not much but what else is there to do? I’m scared about the future, I’m terrified for my children...... I just want a plan to take back this country... I want to fighting chance. I know Romney will screw us once he gets in, I’m just hoping that if we can put pressure on members of congress, that might control him a bit. It’s a long shot but what else is there? If there is another plan, I want to hear it.
