.- The head of Italy's new religious liberty watchdog group warned that present threats of “discriminatory legislation” in the U.S. could eventually result in violence against Christians in America.
“In a climate of discrimination, it is possible that somebody will act upon that discrimination to say ‘the laws are not enough’ and resort to actual violence and this is the realms of hate crimes,” Professor Massimo Introvigne told CNA June 28.
Introvigne was appointed as chairman of the newly created Observatory on Religious Liberty in June. The group is the joint-creation of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the City of Rome with the aim of monitoring religious freedom around the world.
The inaugural meeting was held at Rome’s Foreign Press Association June 28. It heard Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore make the case that religious liberty in the United States is currently imperiled by the prevailing culture as well as by legislation such as the recent Department of Health & Human Services mandate.
Introvigne stressed that he did not want to create a “false impression” that he was equating “the bloody persecution of Christians” as presently occurs in some African and Asian countries with “discriminatory legislation in the United States or Europe.”
However, the 57-year-old sociologist suggested that there was a “three stage process” which could lead to anti-Christian violence in the West if action to protect religious liberty was not taken.
“It starts with intolerance which is a cultural phenomenon,” he explained “and then if intolerance becomes so widespread and popular, some politicians will act upon it and introduce discriminatory legislation.”
It is in this “climate of discrimination,” he said, that people can decide to take the law into their own hands and use violence to further suppress Christianity.
Catholic ping!
Don’t count on us always turning the other cheek.
Actually it may take this to wake American Christians up, many don’t believe it can happen here.
I only wish that would be true, but with my experiences with other Christians, I doubt it. All I can get out of them when I try to communicate with them on this subject is “God is in control”. Which in and of itself is true, but He has given us the ability to change and influence events. they just sail merrily along with their heads in the sand paying no heed to events around them. Kinda like the Jews of the 1930s Germany.
If The Founders had that attitude we would still be singing God Save the Queen.
In the 1920s and ‘30’s, the anti-Catholic Ku Klux Klan warned that “Catholics stored guns in their basements, and at the orders of the Vatican would start an armed revolt to overthrow the United States.”
Yes, pretty ludicrous. However, today, it is not unreasonable that people of faith, and not just Catholics, but all people of faith, should learn to embrace the second amendment, one of the rights “endowed by the creator”, of armed self defense.
The reason for this is the growing numbers of “the people of hate”. They do not just embrace non-belief, but are filled to the brim with bitter, burning hatred, not just of religion, but of faith, and of God Himself.
As such, their new religion, their new faith, is to a god that is the personification of their hate. And the sacrament of this false god is violence directed at believers in God.
Yes, in the future there will likely be more anti-Christian violence. And much of this will be directed at the Catholic church and real Catholics.
It should be noted that the direction of such hatred and violence is usually towards those least able to defend themselves: children, the infirm and invalid, and the elderly. So they should be allowed special protection from “the people of hate”, who would harm them.
I have a question, just who is going to commit this violence, we a christian country...
The primary threats against conservative Christians come from militant Leftists: gays who object to the Church not embracing their lifestyle, feminists upset over pro-life stance, etc.
A lot of the unchurched and the fallen away in this country are just below a boil when it comes to the free expression of one’s Christian faith. It’s as if the open expression of one’s faith is the first step in having it imposed on them. I assume they fear what they don’t understand,
“But as far as I am concerned, when worse comes to worse, I will die as a free man in lieu of living as a slave.”
You and me both, brother.
I wouldn’t worry too much about violence against Christians in America, most of us are armed.
A fact they will find out when the SHTF.
Don’t go quietly.
What? What do they take us for?? Guns rust in basements! ;-)
Viva Cristo Rey!
