In the article below, former Maryknoll Provincial Jon Sivalon charges that the action against LCWR and other recent Vatican actions "should be seen as 'initial forays of shock and awe' to soften the strongest areas of resistance" before a major onslaught begins. "That major assault is scheduled for October of 2012," he says, "with the opening of the Synod of Bishops on the New Evangelization for the Transmission of the Christian Faith." The target, Sivalon says, is modern culture, which Pope Benedict is determined to discredit through "a hermeneutic of retrenchment." The article originally appeared on the homepage of the organization, I Stand With the Sisters.
Vatican Declares "Year of Assault"
By John C. Sivalon, M.M.
Under the guise of a "Year of Faith," the Vatican has launched an all-out assault on any theology or interpretation of Vatican II based on what it calls a "Hermeneutic (Interpretation) of Rupture." This theological assault is articulated in the document known as "Porta Fidei" written by Benedict XVI and further specified in a document titled "Note on Recommendations for the Implementation of the Year of Faith" which was developed by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Both of these documents are cited by Cardinal Levada in his statement on the doctrinal assessment of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR). The rationale for that assessment and other punitive moves that have been made in recent months (Caritas International, educational institutes, and the Girl Scouts) must be understood in the broader context of this special "year of assault."
The real crux of the issue according to the "Note" is a "correct understanding" of Vatican II over against "erroneous interpretations." Benedict likes to refer to these interpretations as being based on a "hermeneutic of discontinuity" while referring to his own interpretation as being......

Only about 45 years overdue but we'll take it.
The "Fishwrap" sees an 18-wheeler Mack truck heading towards it. I hope the collision is messy and painful for these heretics.
One has to be suspicious, since this article is written by an obvious heretic in a heretical publication. And, regretably, the Maryknoll order of which he is a “former Provincial” has been part of the problem.
But I hope it’s true, and that Pope Benedict can pull it off.
One can only hope.
I am not a Catholic but I hope Pope Benedict has a major success in calling these folks to heel. It’s been way, way too long.
May God preserve him.
The distorter and Maryknoll must be shaking in their boots.
Maryknoll is synonymous with leftism/communism. Good riddance.
Oh, I agree. 45 years overdue, but I sure hope the Pope wins this one. It is crucial.
Wow. Check out the comments left by those that regularly read this trash. How they hate their Church.
It’s not a major assault if they don’t parachute in the Guards.
Ladies and Gentlemen, please fasten your seat belts. We will be experiencing some hermeneutics of retrenchment.

It should be interesting. Have the popcorn and soda ready.
Because if he does not, there will be a schism.
Amen!
Did that and wow are they surprised.
These people obviously don’t have enough to do. I’m reminded of the old saw, “Satan finds work for idle hands.” Obviously he finds work for idle minds, too.
this is a marxist infiltration, where the “reformers” got hold of the orders, and the nuns opposing them either left or kept their heads low, staying out of the order’s politics in order to serve God.
New recruits stayed away.
the average age is 73 in this group of nuns, but what the press doesn’t report is that it is the “leadership” conference that is being criticized, not the average nuns of the group.
the real danger: Many of the Catholic institutions are legally under the orders, not the bishops, so that if the “leadership” gets angry, they will take their colleges and hospitals and leave.
Case in point: That Tuscon hospital that authorized an abortion was told by the bishop to follow church ethics or leave, so they left.
That is why the pro Obama press is backing these heretics.
No, there already is a de facto schism and it’s just going to come out into the open now because it’s not possible for it to stay hidden anymore.
