Thomas Jeffersons most famous slave, and the mother of several of the third American presidents children, died in 1835...We dont know when news of Joseph Smiths... religious movement reached...where Sally Hemings spent most of her 62 years, as a house servant and eventually as Jeffersons paramour. But even if Mormon missionaries had come to Monticello during Hemings lifetime, they would, per the instructions of Smith himself, have worked first to convert the masters, and only thenwith the masters permissionthe slaves.
Hemings chance to become a Mormon came much later, in a Mormon temple in Mesa, Ariz., 13 years after the church lifted the ban on full membership for people of African descent. On April 21, 1991, two members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints entered a baptismal font. One...proclaimed, ...I baptize you for and in behalf of Sally Hemings, who is dead.

After the recent furor over Mormon proxy baptism, this news about Hemings should surprise no one. We should...take it as a given that Mormons have baptized by proxy almost every famous person...even Elvis...[...a Jewish friend recently quipped to me, Mormons can baptize dead Jews when Jews can circumcise live Mormons.)
What is surprising is that the LDS Church, according to its Family Search registry, considers Hemings to be Thomas Jeffersons wife. (One of twothe other of course being Jeffersons legal wife, Martha...)
...Mormons not only believe in baptizing non-Mormons who have diedthey also...seal... families so they can spend eternity together...
...the LDS church recognizes Hemings as Jeffersons wife...I strongly suspected that Hemings and Jefferson had been posthumously sealed as husband and wife. I asked the LDS Church to confirm my hunch...the Church obliged: ...Hemings and...Jefferson, I was told, have been posthumously sealed as husband and wife in an LDS Temple...

But the mormon issues you raised were mostly about racism, and neither Romney or his father before him were ever identified with racism.
I realize you are concerned about Mormonism. Certainly in my personal opinion, Mormonism is not the truth,I don’t believe it was founded by a true prophet.
However, imho Slate is discussing Mormonism’s history on race in a deliberate attempt to motivate African American voters against Romney, just as I believe that what has been made of the Trayvon Martin shooting is now all about motivating black turnout in theupcoming election.
I agree.
So what?
What ever works!
And it IS the TRUTH!!
But the mormon issues you raised were mostly about racism, and neither Romney or his father before him were ever identified with racism.
Yes; it's true that Mitt was a young man of 31 when the LDS religious Organization 'saw the light' so to speak in 1978.
OK then if your goal is to reelect Obama in any way shape or form it is inexcusable.
What I post needs no ‘excuse’.
It is what it is.
People who read into it what my INTENTIONS are, are merely getting side tracked.
"Our mission is to prepare the hearts of listeners everywhere to receive the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to live by its principles as they prepare to meet the Savior when He returns."I wonder if Dave or Carl has EVER seen the 'fullness' spoken of.-- David Watkins
I know I haven't; despite asking countless MORMONs on FR to show it to me...
As I sit out here in my little coffee shack on Sunday mornings it is almost like a comedy show to listen to the radio and these oh so sanctimonious and perfect beings bearing a testimonkey a minute.
Yesterday was also General Conference, an added humorous whammy. They do give me good mocking material.
The intentions of Slate are clear, it is a reelect Obama left wing organ, and you are a tool of the left wing for Obama.
It’s blue in my world.
How ‘bout yours; Nana?
No, Ma'am; we do this of our own volition.
I plug my camera cable on that side as well; but I have my wireless mouse receiver on the other side where it is more out of the way.
Uh... why is a coffee cup OUTside the window?
Watching all them YouTube videos will have that effect...
Come away from that keyboard and get OUT of the basement!
I love going out there in the mornings where I have a little milk house heater which warms things up rather quickly. The trusty Grundig radio is tuned to the Mid Utah corny radio station playing songs from the fifties.
And then there is the coffee.

So? You can find crazy stuff all over, including of your more regular Christianity? We covered this. So why obsess about Mormons?
"Uh; because it's a hellish heresy parading as some kind of Super Christianity?"
