Former US President Jimmy Carter has disclosed that he had angry exchanges with Pope John Paul II about liberation theology and about the ordination of women.
The former president said that he complained to the Pontiff about the Churchs perpetuation of the subservience of women while Blessed John Paul II was visiting the US in 1978, and there was more harshness when we turned to the subject of liberation theology. Carter said that he classified the Pope as a fundamentalist, placing him in that category along with Irans late Ayatollah Khomeini.
In the same interview Carter said that it is very fine for gay people to be married in civil ceremonies, although he suggestedmaybe arbitrarilythat churches should not be required by law to solemnize same-sex unions.
Carter made his remarks as he introduced a new edition of the Bible with his own study notes, helping readers to follow his understanding of the Scriptures.

We need the photo of the rabid rabbit.
He didn’t have a problem with his wife being subservient or the ‘fundamentalism of Hamas and Hezbollah.
IIRC, When I was in the South, a fundamentalist was a good thing for bible believing Christians.
It figures that Carter thinks a Mooze Lame mass murderer who married a ten year old girl when he was twenty eight is a lot like Pope John Paul II.
He also thought the people who fled to Canada to avoid the draft were a lot like those who answered the call and served in Vietnam.
Like many of us old men, Carter is probably getting inventive in his old age. He is confusing what he wishes he had said and done with what he actually did. And when he knows that he cannot be contradicted, he just says whatever.
Need to have one, common prayer in Latin
Pope John Paul II believed that the Latin mass was necessary?
Weak (read “moderate”) Republican presidents giv us catastrophic presidents. Ford, Bush pere, and GWB are examples this. By far Carter and Obama have been the worst of the worse.
Stunning. Just imagine the sheer arrogance of someone doing such a thing. A completely self-absorbed narcissist.
* a new edition of the Bible

O God, deliver us from liberal socialist democrats.
Actually, no, the Pope probably just prayed for him, because that message wasn't anything new. I'm sure the Pope had already heard all that from some alleged Catholic leaders, who likely had hung the same 'fundamentalist' tag on him.
Jimmy, it’s nunyaz.
Carter will be judged someday by God and will have to answer for his actions.
The Plains 7-11 will sell out of 6 packs of Bud when he’s gone.
imagine that.
calls him "fundamentalist?" that's positively absurd -- just so jimmah.
I noticed that. I don’t think I am going to take theological advice from Jimmy Carter.
Gee, I wonder how he got that bible, before he took his turn corrupting it?
Smell the humility. Bless his soul.
Too bad he didn’t go Louie and mix it with the quran... Oops, better see it first.
We’re not praying enough.
Even the Devil can quote Scripture.
I see he has adapted the latest liberal “religious” teaching....”Jesus never said anything about homosexuality”...
They aren’t very deep thinkers are they?
Jimmy Carter is slimier than buzzard puke . . . I’ll vote for the Pope in this one and I’m not Catholic.
