Otis Holland, 55, a Las Vegas pastor wanted on charges of having sex with underage girls, was captured on Wednesday, Jan. 25, in Mexico.
Holland disappeared from the Henderson area in June, after an arrest warrant was issued for him by the Henderson Police. The warrant was for 11 counts of sexual assault of a victim under the age of 16, one count of child abuse and conspiracy to commit a crime.
On a recent airing of Fox-TV's America's Most Wanted, the pastor's crimes were broadcast, bringing in a tip from a viewer who saw the program. The information was delivered to the U.S. Marshals Service, which had been working in conjunction with the Henderson Police in the search for Holland.
"He was a con man, and he used the church front for his schemes," said Kevin Abernathy, Henderson Police Department's lead investigator on the case, during the Jan. 20 airing of the show. "In the 19 years that I've been on the job, I would rank this as probably the worst case I've dealt with, as far as a predator identifying and abusing victims."
The Mexican National Police, coordinating with the U.S. Marshals Service, apprehended Holland without incident in Tijuana, Mexico, on Wednesday about 10 p.m., according to Javier Jimenez, assistant chief deputy U.S. Marshal.
Holland was deported from Mexico and custody was turned over to the U.S. Marshals Service. He currently is being held in the San Diego Central Jail pending extradition back to Henderson.
In December 2010, the pastor originally was arrested on three counts of sexual assault of a victim under 16. Upon investigation by detectives, however, it was discovered that there were allegations that Holland may have had inappropriate contact with other minors, too.
Holland was arrested in January 2011 on a felony count of lewdness with a minor under 14 years old, which involved allegations from yet another girl.
The current arrest warrant for Holland stems from an investigation involving two additional girls who came forward about a month before Holland fled the area.
Holland acted as pastor of the United Faith Church, which had been holding its services in the lobby of a tax service business on Hacienda Avenue in Las Vegas. The alleged incidents involving Holland are said to have occurred at various locations in Henderson and Las Vegas.
Hey bramps, this is news out there. You have a problem with the news, then take it up with this pastor for assaulting kids...
Hey bramps, this is news out there. You have a problem with the news, then take it up with this pastor for assaulting kids... as your tag line is “free speech”, then take it up with the pastor...
you can also read about Eddie Long the BAptist preacher getting crowned King. Or the Westboro Baptist crowd. Bunch of con-artists. These aren’t Christians...
“You miss the point.
Some at FR truly REVEL in the sins of any Catholic and behave as if such sin is proof of the glory of Protestantism (while pretending the same sins dont abound among Protestants and Protestant clergy).
Cronos posts these stories so that these Protestant-and-in-denial FReepers might see the folly of their imperious attitude.
Thanks for playing along.”
So, what is the point again? I missed it within the message somehow. I just thought Cronos was putting down Christianity...oh, he was...but, that is to lift up Catholic Christianity? I don’t think so...I do empathize and dislike when some denigrate the Catholic faith for the bad deeds of a few individuals...they do not understand the relationship between good and evil and evil’s temptation on all of us, but especially with those whom love Jesus and have strong faith. But, we must learn that we are not each others adversaries, we are all Christians sharing in our faith and love for Jesus Christ. The temptation to denigrate others of our faith is really similar to the temptation of actually doing the sin we are denigrating someone else about.
and that is good on your part. For my part I do separate the individuals who sin from the teachings of Christ -- as flawed creatures, their sin, our sin, bears no reflection on the creator who is perfect.
“For my part I do separate the individuals who sin from the teachings of Christ — as flawed creatures, their sin, our sin, bears no reflection on the creator who is perfect.”
I learned to separate human flaws from God from a Catholic priest (I am not Catholic). My wife was raised Catholic and I believe that a man should marry in the Church of the woman’s faith so I attended the classes (pre-Cana?) and told the Priest of my honest (but misguided) prejudices against the Catholic church. He patiently listened as I explained my Irish “mixed religion” ancestry and family history...he then was quiet for a moment as he contemplated how to put his thought across and to let my passion quiet down. Then went on to, without malice in any way, explain in a very loving, logical way the fallacy of blaming an entire religion on the actions of a few individuals. It was a pivotal moment in my life and changed me for the better. I will always remember that wonderful priest with admiration and fondness. He did perform our marriage ceremony and was absolutely wonderful in his manner and absolute in his honorable faith.
Or there are far worse out there -- folks who'd look at the slimeball, criminals pastors or priests out there and then denigrate our beliefs because of these scum.
nope
welcome to the club, we’re all that way. But, as sinners, that does not reflect on the glory and goodness of our creator, who is without sin. Because we sin in minor ways or this scum sinned in major ways it bears no reflection on the doctrine of Christ.
The why do you post thread after thread which seem to focus on Christians.
well, because I am Christian, so I’m going to post articles that focus on Christian news — most of it is good, some of it is bad.
I disagree; there is an obvious trend to what you have been posting. News related to Catholics is good. News related to non-catholic Christians is always bad.
Why would you do such a thing?
Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.
No, I don’t think I will. Spreading discord is not showing grace.
Luke 6:29
In other words, you don’t want to say what motivates you to post such a story. The weather is a story every day. Why would you chose this story over a story about today’s weather?
Simple — it talks about a pastor arrested in Mexico for sexual assault. Fact. Just like the Baptist pastor Eddie Long crowned himself King of the Jews. Just like the Westboro Baptist loonies make fools of themselves again. you don’t like that news? Don’t read it.
