I just finished reading a posting on FR about the Declaration of Independence's reliance on the works of St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Robert Cardinal Bellarmine, doctors of the Catholic faith. It was met by a blizzard of hate and bigotry. One even called all Catholics, "fifth-olumnists," who pledge allegiance to a foreign power, implicitly an enemy. Immediately after responding, a friend happened to send me this article over Facebook. If we're going to preserve democracy, Catholics and Protestants need to work together. So thanks to all the Protestants and Jews out there who are hanging with us Catholics, rather than being hanged separately.

I missed the thread you referenced, but yes the catholic bashing by certain quarters is an unsettling reminder of how backwards and bigoted certain segments of this country remain. While hypocrites of all stripes are fair game, the actual articles of faith held by people should not be.

The regime's insolent and arrogant attack on religious freedom represents a threat that transcends any religious boundary.

Sometimes the evil is within. Look at Pelosi saying she stands with the president and not with the church.

I’m opposed to any of us good guys hanging, at all. If we stay united, it’s gonna be the other guys who are going to swing - out of office, out of a job, out of the pork-trough, out of cronyism, out of corruption (at least on the federal level), and hopefully (thank you Col. West), “OUT OF OUR COUNTRY”.

To have Christians and Jews standing together, Catholic, Protestants Jews would be making Jesus happy that so many of His and His Fathers are of one mind...and I’ll bet that also includes many Orthodox Christians of all denominations...:O)

What folks may be missing is the motivation for the White House to create this firestorm, such that they’re forced to withdraw Obamacare.
This would avoid having the Supreme Court declaring it unconstitutional.
Then, they can have their czars implement it one piece at a time, without the worry of each piece being defeated in court.

This is my summary of discussions heard on Hugh Hewitt this evening.

dangus: "So thanks to all the Protestants and Jews out there who are hanging with us Catholics, rather than being hanged separately."

I agree -- on this matter it is beyond the realm of even religious matters but Obama is forcing people to obey his liberal laws, or else.. Next it will be that churches MUST allow gay marriages, polygamy, etc. -- direct infringement on rights.

During these rough times for Christians, it is time for Christians to stop the in-fighting and unite to stand up to a common enemy.

This is more than just an attack on religious freedom it’s an attempt to subjugate any and all business entities to mandated service levels by fiat. This whole thing needs to be thrown out by SCOTUS.

I have two friends who have both declared to me how much they hate the Catholic Church. However, one grew up Lutheran, the other is Methodist and neither one has ever set foot in the church. Neither one has any idea what they are talking about.

The Catholic faith is a gift and I am lucky to have been given it.

I'm glad to see all religious people hanging together on this issue.

However, I would like to point out that if it were a non-Catholic religion in the government's sites, it is not at all certain that Catholics would be standing in solidarity with their "brethren." Catholic dioceses have been petting the ACLU snake for decades with regard to "creation science" with scant regard to the consciences of people who object to evolution on religious grounds. Now the snake has bitten them.

Let us hope the lesson has been learned.

I'm sorry to learn that. I would submit, as a Baptist, that
The Theme is Freedom:
Religion, Politics, and the American Tradition
by M. Stanton Evans
is a book you can cite to good effect in rebuttal. It gave me the distinct impression that some of what I learned in government school back in the Fifties was biased against Catholics in a way that escaped my notice.
