Divers recover Madonna intact from shipwreck chapel

She was found inside the ship's chapel, submerged up to her shoulders, but in one piece. Fire department divers wrapped her in a white towel, and used a nylon belt to hold it in place so she would not be damaged as they pulled her out.

On Saturday, the plaster statue of the Madonna from the doomed Costa Concordia cruise liner stood in a white tent on the port of Giglio, still wrapped in the same towel.

For the last week I have been posting over at a world popular cruise thread CruiseCritic.com following the tragic events,

Well I can honestly say this, they are one paranoid crowd, sure there is a few every now and then but the moderators absolutely won’t allow any “outsiders” to question or ridicule the cruise industry, if you even mention owning your personal cruising boat you are shunned as being lower class, if you are educated in marine engineering and you start telling the internet juicy little facts about structural integrety or the stability factor of a modern day cruise ship (which is terrible) you are shunned.

If you offer up any controversial conjecture that could possibly make others start asking the same questions, you are shunned, all through this you might as well make duplicate posts as they will get deleted.

The cruise industry has its share of highly trained professionals, there are certain names that are of the highest caliber, but the way its transformed now these mega ships are nothing more than a floating theme park, casino, broadway revues, nightclubs and an excellent place to be confined with a couple other passengers that may have illnesses.

Its a waste of money, its designed to harvest your money, its designed to control you and when a disaster strikes the chances are becoming more often when it goes bad you are almost on your own. These mega ships are milking farms and we are the cows waiting to be milked, I sincerely hope my conservative friends realize my attitude, I once worked as an engineer and a deck officer.

Would I cruise? I would if I had that kind of dedicated funds but I would be very picky, probably a much smaller ship and one with the highest safety ratings. And a competent crew thats mostly english speaking.

I wouldn’t doubt there are other, personal small statues to Mary that got left behind in passenger quarters. Those need to be retrieved pronto!
