Question on Cremation. Does the Bible say anything about it? Is it forbidden?
Thank you brother!
At some point - all the Church graveyards are going to run out of space. Cremation is practical and less expensive than embalming, casket, family cemetary plots etc.,
With so many divorces and remarriages - future generations will need a tourist guide to find their ancestors’ family gravesites.
IIRC - One of my in-laws buried 2 husbands in the family mausoleum...she had to be squeezed in between them.
If you are really filled with the Spirit, the fire will not harm you. Read about Justin Martyr and Polycarp when they tried to burn them at the stake.
This was the basis for burning witches. If their abilities came from Spirit, the fire would not harm them.
i have been wondering same thing myself. thanks for post
I am not a selfish person (well, sometimes). But it creeps me out thinking of someone else having my body parts. I just can't get over it.
If I needed someone elses “part”, I couldn't do it. A kidney from my brother or sister, yes, because they are my siblings and I would LOVE to have them with me always. But from a stranger I don't believe I could.
And as the ‘Outlaw Josey Wales “ would say, Buzzards got to eat, same as worms!
Funny you shout Protestant right away too... Bigoted much? Check the log in your own eye, brother - its a big one.So are you saying that you are Catholic?
So put up or shut up - or show your own intolerance and bigotry... Where in the Bible is cremation banned? Thats what the original poster asked - and you couldnt answer that, could you?
Once again the Bible does not ban Cremation, but denying the Bodily resurrection certainly is denying the omnipotence of God , which is a sin in any ones book.
If that is not clear enough for you I pity you, but this is my last post to you.
I don’t care if they grind me up for fish food when I’m dead. I’ve often mentioned that they can throw me in the ditch at the end of the field where we throw all our dead animals. My only request was that they not throw me at the same location in the ditch that we throw the dead cats! Never did like cats!
Oh, I fully agree! The question was about the Church’s historical problem with cremation. It wasn’t “heretical”, but it was frowned upon - and it was frowned upon in the time that the Church sold those indulgences and things.
Perhaps there was a bit of a financial motive for dissuading the faithful from pursuing cremation, especially when the Church was the owner of most of the cemeteries?
I’m not saying that’s the case today (although the Church still owns massive amounts of burial grounds) - which some seem to accuse me of doing. But in the past, how can someone be so certain? Especially when salvation itself was up for sale?
ROFL, I love your pithy comments and superior wisdom in the face of such ignorance and bigotry.
I’m in favor of cremation for my ex-wife! Does she have to be dead first? LOL
So if there is no body, God cannot resurrect it? The God who created man from dirt cannot reform that dirt and ashes into a man again?
You really like to place limits on the omnipotent God, don’t you...
I'm gonna specifically ask that my butt be separated from the rest of me, cremated by itself, and then dumped into the HVAC system of the nearest (insert liberal establishment) office to me at the time.
I was just pointing out that Christ being “buried” doesn’t set a precedent to being buried underground.
Not only do I think it is ok, I think it is respectful of that person and reverent of the notion of endless life.
“Arlington wouldnt have the same power if all that was there was a sign.”
Amen....and there would be a mile long wait for those grieving for their loved ones.
Before cremation the person should be mostly dead.
This comment is just to ignornat to reapons to and to ridiculous to ignore, Can you show me where i said anything of this kind?
No problem, NoGrayZone. Donating organs is a personal and private matter. There is no need to call someone selfish if they don’t choose to do it. Personally, I would like to be buried and the Mass only be attended by my immediate family. Then, I would love for a huge/fun filled “memorial” service for other family and friends. No tears... just stories, good food, some drinks available of every kind... and in honor of my life... tons of cheesecake. I figure that I will be partying in heaven with all my friends and relatives who left before me. The folks I leave should do the same on earth.
