A Prophet’s Life: The Cradle—Sharon, Vermont [Mormon Merry Smithmas Day!]
Ensign (Official Magazine of Mormon Church) ^ | December 2005

Posted on 12/23/2011 8:40:18 AM PST by Colofornian

Sharon, Vermont, could rightly be called the cradle of the Restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ, for it was here that Joseph Smith Jr. was born on December 23, 1805. The fifth child of Joseph Sr. and Lucy Mack Smith, Joseph Jr. was nurtured and loved as he developed gradually into his role as the Prophet of “the dispensation of the fulness of times” (Eph. 1:10).

Merry Smithmas Day!

From this article's headline: ...THE CRADLE

Tell me something. If you're a religious organization with claimed ties to a historical person (Jesus Christ) and you publish something in December with "cradle" in the headline...you'd think it'd be a fairly safe bet that the article's focus was Jesus Christ and Christmas...right?

Wrong-o! Not if you're the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints...otherwise known as the Mormons!

The article is about Joseph Smith, whose birthday was Dec. 23.

Now if this article was published in a vacuum...well, then that would be one thing...but it's not.

Want evidence that the Mormon church leaders continually replace Jesus Christ with Joseph Smith at this time of year? I especially recommend these six articles from Mormons...though the sixth one is not Christmas specific
* The Joseph Smith Crèche at BYU, December 2005 [Mormon Merry Smithmas!]
* Dealing with “Smithmas” [Mormon worship of Joseph Smith]
* “Praise To The Man”: A Review Of The Annual Joseph Smith Memorial Sermons [Mormon Merry Smithmas]
* Joseph Smith: a witness of Christ [O Come, O Come EmmanSMITHuel, anyone?]
* The dreaded Christmastime ward sacrament meeting [Mormon Merry Smithmas!]
* Praising the man [Mormon Merry Smithmas!]

These other recent threads provide additional evidence:
* Reasons Joseph Smith Is More Important Than Jesus [Mormon Merry Smithmas!]
* 'Praise to the Man' honors Joseph Smith [Mormon Merry Smithmas!]
* Joseph Smith: Blessed Be His Name [Mormon Merry Smithmas]
* Joseph Smith Jr.—Prophet of God, Mighty Servant
* Tis the season for Smithmas; Whom do you worship? [Mormon Merry Smithmas]

Just posted: Exploring: The Church Began with a Prophet [Mormon Merry Smithmas Day!]

In that other post, here was my Christmas greeting to Mormons: From the article's headline: ...The Church Began with a Prophet...

Lds Doctrine & Covenants 1:30 says that the Mormon Church "is the ONLY true and living church on the face of the earth" (D&C 1:30).

[So much for "Good will" and cheer to all Christian churches who claim the name of Jesus Christ every Christmas season!]

When you couple D&C 1:30 with this headline: That "the church began with a prophet" -- it means this headline implies that the only true and living church began with a man named Joseph Smith.

No headline credit to Jesus Christ.
No focus on the Church Jesus Christ began in the first century.

And, of course, the Mormon church can't focus on that historic church. Why not?

Because it claims that church went down in flames. A 100% apostasy...or as close to 100% as you can get.

Joseph Smith even boasted at one point that he was the ONLY man who ever knew how to keep a church together. He specifically said Jesus Christ didn't do it. (Yeah, I know. Blasphemy)

And if there was no "universal apostasy" -- a topic that 52,000 Mormon missionaries broach regularly with contacts...then there's no need for a "restoration"...no need for the existence of the Mormon church.

The presence of such a built-from-scratch church would all be superflous. Redundant. Unnecessary.

Mormon leaders know that.

So in that sense, whatever "peaceful co-existence" there is between the Mormon church and worldwide Christianity, it's really a mere surface public relations' type of "tolerance."

Underneath that surface, Mormonism's spiritual militancy is such that if it allows the worldwide Christian church to be acknowledged as one authorized by Jesus Christ...then its own very existence is called into question.

And you can't have that. (Not if you're a true believing Mormon, that is).

From the December article: This preparation began on December 23, 1805, in Sharon, Vermont, when Joseph Smith, Jr., was born.

Merry Smithmas Day to all Mormons! May you know that the apostle Paul said in Ephesians 6 that we fight NOT vs. flesh and blood!

No Mormon is our enemy! Every Mormon is of tremendous value to God and to us as Christians!

He or she is of such value that our Father-who-was-always-God-from-eternity-past (and was never a man) sent His everlasting-Son-from-Eternal-Past to become a baby in need of "diaper" changes while in a manger low some 2,000 years ago.

And that Christ child went on to show the value of each Mormon by dying for their sin nature and their personal sins on the cross.

May all who identify themselves as "Mormon" have a truly Merry Christmas!

The lds denies that Jesus Christ is the CREATOR of everything.

Rather, they say he was a creature.

You who are lds, PLEASE, escape from the lie.

The lds only feeds you lies and deceptions.

Come to the truth of Christ and reject the lie.

Amen.

Agreed.

If Mormonism wanted to just be its own free-floating entity unattached to a figurehead they have named "jesus," that'd be one thing.

But when they claim to be the only true "authorized" Christians...and Jesus Christ keeps getting replaced by Smith...these articles in particular show this:
* “Praise To The Man”: A Review Of The Annual Joseph Smith Memorial Sermons [Mormon Merry Smithmas]
* Joseph Smith: a witness of Christ [O Come, O Come EmmanSMITHuel, anyone?]

...then we Christians have not only a right but an obligation to object.

What is the point of all of these anti-Mormon threads? Don’t you know any mormons. I know a couple of dozen and they’re all good people.

I see more ridiculing and trying to prove mormons false Christians here than I do analysis of the dangerous passages of the Koran.

Who cares what the mormons believe if it isn’t a danger to the country?

PS: I m not voting for or advocating Romney, but if there was a conservative mormon running, I would give that person serious consideration irrespective of their religion.

Don’t you know any mormons.

Yes.

(I'm descended from Lds; many Lds family/relatives whom I love)

I see more...trying to prove mormons false Christians here than I do analysis of the dangerous passages of the Koran.

(Let me know when you find FREEPER Muslims of any mass quantity and I'll start with Muslim threads)

Who cares what the mormons believe if it isn’t a danger to the country?

Huge spiritual assumption there.

Sorry. But ignoring the spiritual peril just because the physical peril exists is ludicrous.

Besides. I take my cue from Jesus:

"I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him." (Luke 12:4-5)

So does Jesus say, "fear the Muslim torchers or terrorists?" (No)

Instead, does He say to exercise fear of the One who has authority to cast somebody into hell? (Yes) So, indeed, our "fear" is on behalf of those who are placing their eternal spiritual lives at risk -- and that includes both Muslims and Mormons...yes, that's right...people can multi-task!

Don’t you know any mormons. I know a couple of dozen and they’re all good people.

#1...if you were auditioning for becoming a new god on the universal block, you'd be on your best behavior, too!

#2 Once again, Jesus of the Bible did NOT share yet another presumption of yours:

He said: "'Why do you call me good?' Jesus answered. 'No one is good--except God alone.'" (Mark 10:18).

Jesus wasn't saying He personally wasn't good; but He was addressing the misguided presumption behind the comment: That man is good…[I believe Jesus is addressed man’s isness at root…]

Jesus levels the playing field before the cross by undercutting any spiritual pride that presumes anybody from any religion doesn’t need Him as our great physician ("It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick...For I have NOT COME to call the righteous, but sinners."--Matthew 9:12)

Jesus is for the person who understands their personal cancerous diagnosis of sin.

"Who cares what the mormons believe if it isn’t a danger to the country?"

If I were NOT a believer, one who takes the command of the "Great Commission" (Matt 28:18-20) seriously, I would probably feel as you do, "who cares, these people are really nice, they do nice things, they have truly nice families and it's not my problem - live and let live."

Unfortunately, the Lord has told me to do my very best to point them toward the real truth for I know if each Mormon does not turn to the truth, accept it and accept the genuine Jesus Christ as the "way the truth and the light," they will spend eternity along with Bro. Joseph, Satan and all other non-believers.

There is no other option - accept reality, that we are all sinners in need of the truth of the Salvation.

And so are we. For those of us who used to be Mormon, imagine the shock when we actually realized that they (the Mormons) DO take glory away from Christ and put it on Smith.

We were all so brainwashed at one point, that we said the same thing the Mormons say on here and deny the Mormons worship Joseph Smith and that Christ was the center of Mormonism. Eventually, our eyes were opened and we saw that we really did worship Smith and not Jesus.

Thank God we are all free now!

Merry Christmas to all my brothers and sisters in Christ and especially to my other ex-mo (now Christian) brothers and sisters - we have come a long way!
