Hmmmm... then it must have been part of the name for every other Caesar of the Roman Empire.

Sorry, Chronos, not buying. Not only does the Bible exclude a title from being considered as part of the numerical equation of the name of the man who will be Antichrist, but Nero did not meet any other requirement of Scripture for being Antichrist.

The one question I always ask is, who in the history of the world has fulfilled the following:

And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, 17and he provides that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name. (Revelation 13:16, 17)

There has never been a time in the history of the world where the technology existed for one man to not only know if a person had his mark, but to prevent that person from buying and selling if he did not have the mark. And this knowledge would be global, not just the known world as it existed in 70AD.

There has been no one who has met all the Biblical requirements for the Antichrist. That individual will make his appearance some time in the future.

errr. Giovanna, do read up on history, it WAS part of the name -- Gaius Octavius Thurinus was adopted by Julius Caesar and took the name "Gaius Julius Caesar" -- he got the title Augustus, but his name was Caesar..

His successor was born "Tiberius Claudius Nero" but was adopted by Augustus and named "Tiberius Julius Caesar"

Tiberius adopted Caligula -- and Caligula wasn't even his name, but a nickname he got ("little boots") when his father Germanicus was campaigning and Caligula was dressed as a little legionnary to beef upmorale, but Caligula's name was " Gaius Julius Caesar Germanicus" -- his father had been adopted by Tiberius

Caligula's successor was his uncle Claudius whose name was "Tiberius Claudius Nero Germanicus" until adoption when it was "Tiberius Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus"

Claudius then adopted Nero who was born "Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus" and when adopted got the name "Nero Claudius Caesar Drusus"

==========

it was only during the reforms of Diocletian in 296 AD that Caesar became a title

Please do read some history

The answer to that is the Primate -- Roman slaves, soldiers etc. had "marks" identifying their status in society. And yes it was on the right hand or forehead.

to sell in the Roman Empire you had to be acknowledged by the Empire. And you used denarii which had the name of the beast "Nero Caesar"

Going back to your incorrect statement that "Caesar" was Nero's title not name, here's another historical lesson -- the 5 good emperor, from Nerva to Marcus Antoninus were all adoptees and not necessarily related to their predecessor's.

it was a fine system of ensuring that the best person came to power -- we know that an "enlightened monarchy" can be good for society, but the problem is ensuring that it remain enlightened from one to the next. Just hiding it under a garb of constitutionality as Octavian did was not sufficient as evidenced by the actions of "Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus".

the Nervan system of adoptee was effective for the 1st century to retain the power and grant it to the most suitable. It failed due to the ascension of "Caesar Lucius Aurelius Commodus Antoninus Augustus" and at his death in 191 led to the crisis of the 2nd century -- oh and that crisis is another time when people thought the world was about to end.

the crisis of the 2nd century — oh and that crisis is another time when people thought the world was about to end. in fact the antics of Elagabalus “Caesar Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus” would have given these people a bigger fillup to their belief that the world was ending.
