Journalists urged to allow Mormons to define themselves
Deseret News ^ | December 8, 2011 | Joseph Walker

WASHINGTON, D.C. — News reporters and editors from around the country were urged to allow members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to define themselves rather than to exclusively look to sources outside the church for definitions of what it means to be a Mormon or to explain LDS doctrine or history.

"Define us by who we are and by our central beliefs rather than who we are not or by obscure or irrelevant beliefs," Michael R. Otterson, managing director of public affairs for the LDS Church, said during a Thursday morning session of a conference called, "Politics and Religion: Getting it Right in 2012."

--snip--

Otterson identified for the journalists what he considered the five most common stereotypes of members of the LDS Church — that they are not Christian, that they belong to a cult, that they are insular and secretive, that they are weird and that they practice polygamy.

--snip--

Otterson explained that members of the church are troubled when they are described as not Christian "because that suggests we are not followers of Jesus Christ, and Christ's divinity is a foundational belief in our faith."

Ah...

Silent Sandy.

Won't respond in other threads; but feels it's ok to start another one.

I'll go out on a limb here and PROPHECY that she'll be unresponsive later in this thread, too.

Interesting - my grandson (age 6) attended VBS that was put on by the Lutherans and the 7th Day Adventists and he had a blast - they even had a zipline that went across the gym for the kids. However, when he came home he said, “Grandma, they don’t know Heavenly Father!” He said “They don’t pray right” because they don’t pray to Heavenly Father and end in “In the Name of Jesus Christ - Amen.” I thought that was really cute of him and insightful. I believe the Holy Ghost taught that to my grandson.

ALL: This is an excellent example of Saundra's Mormonic legalism on exhibition here.

Per Saundra (and other Mormons), even the disciple Stephen praying directly to Jesus (Acts 7:59) wouldn't "cut" Saundra's muster...she would openly condemn him for that!

In fact, even the fictional character disciples in the Book of Mormon would be condemned by Saundra!

“And behold, they began to pray; and they did pray unto Jesus, calling him their Lord and God…when Jesus had thus prayed unto the Father, he came unto his disciples, and behold, they did still continue, without ceasing, to pray unto him…And it came to pass that Jesus blessed them as they did pray unto him…And Jesus said unto them: Pray on; nevertheless they did not cease to pray.” (Book of Mormon, 3 Nephi 19:18, 24-26)

(Oops. Joseph Smith forgot to run the Book of Mormon by Saundra Duffy's "'insightful'...pray 'right'..." editing committee)

“Cromartie described as ‘unwise’ and ‘imprudent’ remarks made by Baptist pastor Robert Jeffress in which he classified the LDS Church as a ‘cult.’”

But he couldn't bring himself to say UNTRUE!

Uh, Sandy...

You forgot to claim this Jeffress was Perry's pastor as you have claimed in other threads.

Have you seen the error of your ways?

There. Fixed it.

Since all those denominations you mentioned broke away from the Catholic Church and then broke away from themselves to start other churches, do you not see how it could be said that these churches are not qualified to judge the Christianity fitness of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints?

Poor Sandy...

Your very own CHOSEN religion FAILS to follow it's own 'scripture' in favor of following the dictates of GOVERNMENT, and you have the GALL to try and scold US??

I hereby declare my intention to submit to those laws..."

All the other Churches believe that about themselves.

They DO?

Then I'm just SURE you have SOME kind of DOCUMENTATION to prove it; right?

because they don’t pray to Heavenly Father and end in “In the Name of Jesus Christ - Amen.”

You know there is no formula for prayer, right? Jesus taught the Lord’s prayer and it contained neither of those phrases.

24. I’m Superior; My church has billions in assets stashed away -- yours has taken a stupid vow of poverty.
25. I'm Superior; Last - we have the power to keep a whole race out of our priesthood if we wanted to reinsert our 148-year legacy  (we ARE still keeping an entire GENDER at bay!)
26.  I'm superior; I have the "higher law" -- everyone else "lives under the "lesser law' because I say so...(over and over).

The Trinity is a man-made concept.

No, Sandy; it's your Temple Rituals that are MAN-MADE.

They are NOWHERE to be found in ANY of your Scriptures: therefore NOT holy or 'sacred'; just plain ol' SECRET.

By the way, when we pray we always address our Father in Heaven and we finish with “In the Name of Jesus Christ - Amen.” When we finish a talk, we end “In the Name of Jesus Christ” - we love Him and adore Him, our Savior.

They would not listen, however, but persisted in their former practices.
Even while these people were worshiping the Lord, they were serving their idols.
To this day their children and grandchildren continue to do as their fathers did.

The LORD Jesus Christ: “I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man or woman comes to the Father except by Me.” John 14:6

Sandy the Mormon: I believe that with all my heart. Jesus Christ is my Advocate with the Father.
__________________________________________

No Sandy

Thats not what that verse is about...

you need to start reading the Bible for your self

and not just parrot whatever FARMS/FAIR/Ldsorg give you...

That verse from the Christian Bible which you as a Mormon do not believe is part of a conversation the LORD Jesuys Christ was having with His disciples..

Not about needing an advocate and just having the LORD Jesus Christ intervene for you as your defense lawyer...

Do you even know what the LORD Jesus Christ does as an advocate ???

These people were already saved and part of the church that Jesus built..

Lets look at the whole passage...

here read and I’ll teach you something...

for free...no 10% charge...

John 14

Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in Me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. John 14:1, 2

Right there See ?? Would the LORD Jesus Christ be telling them they already have a home in Glory and He just needed to go paint the rooms and make curtains if they were still in need of an advocate ???

Read on...

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with Me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” John 14:3, 4

Now they had never ever been in Heaven having started out on the Earth..but the LORD Jesus had...

He made Heaven...

And He knew the Way there

Through He alone...

Thomas and some unbelievers among them Sandy and the Mormons said to Him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” John 14:6

See they werent in need of an advocate...

the advocate was right there with them...

They just needed a road map to where He was holding His party...

also called the Marriage Supper of the Lamb...

Now we get to the verse I quoted...

The LORD Jesus Christ answered Thomas and some unbelievers among them Sandy and the Mormons, “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6

See Sandy ???

Whole other context...

Now the next is just for Thomas and the rest of His disciples...

Because Sandy and the rest of the unbelieving mormons deny this next part...

They deny that the LORD Jesus is God...

The LORD Jesus Christ: “If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”

Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in Me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in Me, who is doing His work.

Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves.

I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in Me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

And I will do whatever you ask in My Name, so that the Son may bring Glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in My Name, and I will do it.” John 14:7-14

and the rest of John 14 is still the same subject..

So Sandy you do not believe or understand that the LORD Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life andf that no man or woman comes to the Father except through Him...John 14:6

because if you did you would not be an ignorant Mormon throwing out cut and pasted comments that dont fit the Christian Bible passage..

Instead you would be on your way to being a Christian...

Please stop misrepresenting my faith.

What IS your faith??

Since we do NOT know; all we can do is to REPRESENT the things that MORMONism has written about all these years.

Which of those are wrong?

Why not CORRECT what we alledgedly 'misrepresent'?
