...It was WOW. What does everyone else think about this MASTERPIECE!
A great work. I always listen to it during the holidays. I think Handel was inspired by God to write that one.
OK all of you english teachers/Majors should ir be “Omahas’” OR “Omaha’s”?
≤}B^)
Back in the 60s the Summer retreat I was working at put on “Handel’s Messiah”. They went the whole 9 yards, bringing in a symphony orchestra, professional singers etc.
I know nothing about music but must admit I was enjoying it. There were microphones all around even extended from the ceiling. They were actually going to make a record of it.
It was in July and even tho the area was in the cool mountains, with all the people in the auditorium it was a little warm. All the folding side doors were open.
About half way through the performance, a dog ran in from one of the open doors. Then a red headed boy trying to keep the dog from making a mess of the performance ran across chasing him. It probably took 10 minutes for the audience to stop laughing.
One of the most beautiful pieces ever written. Stunning and elegant.
One of the endearing aspects of Houston is that Rice University puts on a “Handel’s Messiah Sing-a-long” every year. Music staff and students lead each section in the singing and it is, from all reports, astonishing.
Several churches are also doing this now and you can sing your heart out all the Christmas Season long.
“I can’t wait for our annual Christmas holiday Carmina Burana sing-along.”
Scrooge?
Nine Inch Nails is better.
Nine Inch Nails is better.
Consistant with your taste in women....
“Nine Inch Nails is better.”
While I assume you were being sarcastic, or simply contrarian, I will respond as though you are serious just in case.
Whatever you are smoking, it is obviously pretty good stuff, thank your supplier.
If you believe 200 years from now ANYONE will even know who NIN is, let alone still pay good money to see their works performed, well, dillusion doesn’t begin to explain where you have to be mentally to believe that.
Whenever I hear the chorus- “And He shall reign forever and ever.” I still get kind of goose-pimply. A true masterpiece.
I see no reason to bring pickles into this.
Now listen to THIS and tell me the Classical's can even get CLOSE.
"Hey piggy piggy pig pig, all of my fears came true."
(Heard around Poultry Park in Gainesville.....)
Sounds more like Yoda Chicken.
Whenever I hear the Halelujia Chorus, I close my eyes and imagine what it will be like to hear it in Heaven one day, sung by untold millions, and at the throne of God.
*chills!*
Me, too! Hilarious!! Well,I’m in good company
AMEN!!!!!
Do you mean it was “WOW” compared to other performances of Messiah you have heard before from this group, or compared to other performances of Messiah you have heard anywhere by anybody? Or do you mean you never heard Messiah performed live before and were blown away?
Handel said that as he was writing Messiah that he felt as if the heavens had opened and he could almost see God. He felt profoundly inspired. I think he was right.
