Bishop Anba Stephanos (Orthodox Coptic) of Beba and Elfashn |
Problems are also experienced in day-to-day life because calls are often made in the media not to buy from Christian merchants or to sell anything to Christians. Businessmen are therefore faced with a struggle for economic survival. Christians are indirectly excluded from employment, for example by job advertisements specifying a female employee with headscarf. Attempts are being made to drive the Christians out.
The Bishop warned against placing too much hope in the elections that are planned to take place in Egypt at the end of November. The future is absolutely unclear, he said. Nevertheless, in his view the Copts can play a major role because they are numerically strong.
Bishop Stephanos underlined the need for mutual solidarity among Christians. Jesus Christ said that we are all of one body. When one limb suffers, all the others suffer with it. Asked about his hopes for the future, the Bishop said: We pray for freedom and peace, not only for Egypt but for the whole world. If peace existed, the consequence would be that such problems would no longer arise. Nevertheless, all Coptic Christians are prepared for martyrdom, as at the beginnings of Christianity. From childhood onwards they hold close ties to their Church, which they regard as their mother. They would support their country and their Church without any hesitation.
Egypt has a total population of some 76 million, of whom 12 million are Christians. The majority of these belong to the Coptic Orthodox Church. Nearly 200,000 are Catholics.
Islam...the “religion” of brotherly love. (Sarcasm intended.)
Thanks markomalley.
If he thinks it’s bad now, just wait until Egypt abrogates the treaty and attacks Israel.
If Israel wins, it’ll get very ugly toward the Copts.
If Israel loses, it’ll get very ugly toward the Copts.
And if by chance the treaty isn’t abrogated, it’ll get, well...
It’s going to get a lot worse Bishop.
Obama boy started this crap with his Muslim Spring.

Thank you Citizen Barack!
Send a ticket for me.
It may not be problem solved but they will reconsider once I am done with them.
Prayers for all the Christians and Catholics that are being persecuted there.
I’m not a big guy, but I’d stand with them. I’ll certainly pray for them. My personal opinion is that it isn’t so much an “Arab Spring” obama and the rest of the progressive/socialist waffleheads want. That’d include the Christians. What they prefer is an islam spring, no doubt with a side order of caliphate. What they either faiil to consider, or refuse to see is that the enemy of your enemy is NOT your friend, and that they will be the next song on the hit-the-fan parade, once it’s convenient.
Christians are being violently killed under the eyes of the international media.
Very blind but very PC eyes I would guess!
No, no. Hillary in her appearance before the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee was asked about the Christian persecution, and answered by saying that it is not about Christians alone, but protesting Muslims, other sects, etc., etc. The SMARTEST WOMAN IN THE WORLD blew it totally off, as if one more pesky question and one more unfortunate detail among many that herselfness must grapple with, in her process of her smart power in her negotiations with the bad guys. And Hillary knows best because she is so informed that she was able to filibuster EVERY SINGLE QUESTION, until most assuredly after all was said and done, and the hearing ended, you still did not know squat and realized she doesn’t either.
It’s great that finally one of the Bishops in the Coptic Church have the courage to tell the truth. Most of the Bishops do not know what to do about the onslaught of persecution unleashed on the Christians in the last forty years, so they either keep quite or even cover up for the atrocities committed by fellow Muslims.
Things went from bad to worse, it started with civilian Muslims killing Christians such as the massacres in El Zawya El Hamra in 1981 and other villages such as El Koshhe in 2000. At the end of Mubarak’s regime we have the Christmas massacre in 2010 and the Alexandria Church Bombing on New Year eve 2011. But the Military rule have opened the door wide to all kind of civilian and Government persecution. Under their rule, three Churches were totally demolished tens of Christians massacred, and to top it off, the military and radical Muslim thugs massacred 27 Christians on Sunday, October 9 who were engaged in a peaceful demonstration protesting the demolish of a Church in Aswan. This is one of the fruits of Obama’s appeasement of radical Muslims.
If there is Islamic intolerance for Christians in Egypt, then UN must do something about it.
The Liberals ignore the purging of Christians from place like Iraq and Egypt, which were largely Christians until the Arab invaders come. It is not too much to say that they would like to do the same to Christians in their own countries. Liberals hate and despise Christians who talk their faith seriously.
