Mike Casey is a praying man. The father of two believes in the power of prayer to change things. But it’s easy to believe in the power of prayer when you see how a little prayer can change so many things.
It all started simply. Mike Casey wanted to pray. As part of the nationwide “America Needs Fatima” movement, Mike wanted to hold a public rosary in the small Massachusetts town of Upton. It would be one of 7,515 Public Square Rosaries held across the United States on October 15th.
Last year, he and a group of others prayed the rosary outside the rectory of a local church but this year Mike, the owner of a hardwood floor company, asked the township if he and a group of others could pray the rosary in the town common. “Part of the rosary is penance and praying in public is part of that,” explained Mike when I spoke with him last night.
The town told him they’d consider his request. They also told him not to bother coming to the town meeting. They told him they’d email him their decision. Well, Mike didn’t exactly like the sound of that so he went anyway. And he couldn’t believe what happened...

Too many time people like the dipsticks running this town worry about offending the few and in turn offend the many.
Don’t the many have rights too.
One atheist complains about school prayer and it is outlawed.One atheist complains about a Christmas Nativity set and they are outlawed. One athesit wants to take down a cross in the desert and it barely got saved.
I don’t know about the rest of America, but I am sickened by the attitude than the many have to be offended in order not to offend the one.
It isn’t only small town small thinking politicians that are frightened by the few, it goes right to the Supreme Court.
The many have rights also, and one day these people may find that out.
The moment he asked for permission, he put the town officials on the spot. It's pathetic that their response was that praying the rosary might offend someone ... but on reflection, if they gave permission for this, what would they do if the local pagans decided to ask permission for a satanic ritual on the common, or some neo Nazi's asked to celebrate Hitler's birthday, or the Muslims ... oh, never mind.
The problem is, once one asks for formal permission, you are forcing local officials to establish a precedent, which is a half step away from policy. My guess is that this was simply a group of small town part time offials who didn't want to walk through that door. I doubt they would have done anything if Mr. Casey had just gone ahead with his plans, but Casey asked them to take action.

There is no such thing as a prayer that does nothing. Did you ever consider that your prayer was answered with a "no", or a "not yet"?
OWS, have sex in public, deficate on a police car, throw bottles at police, and do any other vile things in public. However, try to gather a few people to say a rosary and it has to be APPROVED by a bunch of nobodies. They don’t want to offend anyone? Who are they offending? If you don’t want to say the rosary and you don’t like the fact people are gathering in peace to do just that...then don’t go there. Don’t join in. Don’t whine about it. Just stay away. That’s all onee has to do. So, the offending of anyone comes down to OFFENDING THOSE WHO WANT TO SAY THE ROASARY. Where are their rights to gather peacefully and pray? Enough!!! I think the group should take this to the highest authority. This is utter nonsense. Always it’s offending someone who doesn’t like it and that takes away the rights of others. This is what we have come down to.

The response from the Selectmen was a simple “No” and the reason was given that they did not want to offend any taxpayers.
I have read both the State Constitution and the Constitution of the United States and have yet to find where the right to assemble and free speech can be stopped by the possibility of offending taxpayers.
What happend to the First Amendment?
This man CAN pray regardless of what the city idiots say!
