Please pray and lend some advice

My last visit the doctor did an X-Ray to look at my lung infection and noticed that my heart is further enlarged. That was several weeks ago. Now I'm getting dizzy and nauseous when I sit, stand and lie down. Also, the edema in my feet is ridiculous. I can barely get a pair of shoes on, even though they're velcro and huge.

Sounds like you need a good cardiologist.

I’m saying my nightly rosary & prayers now. You are included. :-)

He needs to contact a DR or ER immediately. The nausea is a disturbing symptom with the lightheadedness.

It could be a heart attack.

Congestive heart failure. (Enlargement of the heart.)

Your heart isn’t pumping enough blood to your lungs; you take a full breath of air, see your chest move...and you STILL feel like you’re holding your breath underwater.

Edema from lack of circulation of the blood from the heart.

I’ve had both these things. (Not the lung problem, though.)

Do what they’re telling you: Get to a doctor, a different one. He’ll want to refer you to a cardiologist, pronto. Check into an emergency room if you must—the shortness or breath and edema point to the heart.

Additional question: Are you overweight? Do you snore? You won’t know it—trust me—but is your breathing suspended during sleep? You’ll need a sleep study—DO NOT LAUGH THIS OFF, friend. If they recommend a CPAP, just DO IT. Don’t fight ‘em. You’ll sleep better, and four months after that, you’ll be shovelling gravel like I was. My neighbor couldn’t keep up! ;)

...and I’m DREAMING once more! After ten years!

Oh, forgot: The dizzy/nausea is due to lack of oxygen.

Again, heart circulation from left ventricle to your lungs.

You can breathe all you can, see your chest rise/fall, won’t matter. Still not getting enough.

I know.

It will get worse until you see a doctor. Don’t be macho proud, either.

From me to you.

I’ve been on a CPAP since 1992. Maybe it needs adjusting.

I agree with WinstonsJulia above. You need to call your doctor’s service and get to an emergency room immediately. These are signs of a heart attack and with the swelling, your heart has to be struggling.

Check your phone. Dial 911 and see what they say. Just in case.

Seriously.

Better alive than not.

Take an aspirin Now! My husband’s last heart attack, first thing the cardiologist asked was if he had taken an aspirin. When he said yes, he was relieved and said Good! You did the right thing. It may have saved your life. I had called 911 for him though. Which you may think of doing, please.

Oh, uh, another reply. Sorry.

The whole point of the CPAP is that, if you’re breathing IS stopping during sleep (because overweight), then it’s putting a huge burden on the heart. You’re in greater danger when you sleep than when you’re awake! Your heart is resting when awake, if at all.

I had/have? idiopathic dialated cardiomyopathy. Thank God for the idopathic part; it comes or goes or rather, gets worse/better. It does vary, and don’t know why.

The CPAP, in my case (my theory, and am sticking to it!) seems to have relieved burden from heart and I sleep better, get real rest, and heart back to normal size as a result.

When I take a nap on the couch—without using the CPAP—I *JOLT* myself awake with a shock, suddenly from out of sleep, as my heart POUNDS me awake because I’d stopped breathing.

If you’re very diligent, you may notice a thumping in the chest and your face feels as if it’s turned red.

I hope your mileage may vary, but just in case...this information.

I do like all Freepers. This place is the best.

I agree. It is NOT a death sentence. My father lived for almost ten years after first finding out.

There are specialists out there that will see you ASAP, even if your insurance is not the greatest.

Keep fighting, and we will keep praying!
