Fathers vs. the Evangelicals
http://www.cin.org/users/jgallegos/god.htm ^ | vanit

I challenge Evangelicals to put their interpretation of the Bible and their theology up against the acid test of what the Early Church Fathers taught.

Perhaps, Evangelicalism is closer to the truth than Mormonism, but it still has a long way to go.

Purpose

This Web page is dedicated to the defense of Catholic doctrines within Patristic thought. The Catholic rule of faith consists of three coordinate and complementary authorities: Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition and the teaching Church. The Church Fathers used both Scripture and Tradition to explain and defend the Catholic faith. Corunum's mission is to present the outline of Catholic doctrines as they appear in the writings of the Church Fathers.

What you will Find Inside

Corunum Apologetic Web site does not contain a library of the writings of the Church Fathers. There are a host of sites on the internet which offer the Ante-Nicene Fathers(ANF) edited by Cleveland Coxe and the Nicene Post-Nicene Fathers(NPNF) edited by Philip Schaff and Henry Wace.(cf. ANF/NPNF ). Inside you will find testimony from the Church Fathers on various Catholic doctrines listed in chronological order.

"See that ye all follow the bishop, even as Christ Jesus does the Father, and the presbytery as ye would the apostles. Do ye also reverence the deacons, as those that carry out[through their office] the appointment of God. Let no man do anything connected with the Church without the bishop. Let that be deemed a proper Eucharist, which is[administered] either by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude[of the people] also be; by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude[of the people] also be; even as, wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church." Ignatius of Antioch,Epistle to the Smyrneans, 8:2(A.D. 110),in ANF,I:89

Taught by St. Peter the Apostle

Against schism:

"Why are there strifes, and tumults, and divisions, and schisms, and wars among you? Have we not [all] one God and one Christ? Is there not one Spirit of grace poured out upon us? And have we not one calling in Christ? Why do we divide and tear to pieces the members of Christ, and raise up strife against our own body, and have reached such a height of madness as to forget that "we are members one of another?" Remember the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, how He said, "Woe to that man [by whom offences come]! It were better for him that he had never been born, than that he should cast a stumbling-block before one of my elect. Yea, it were better for him that a millstone should be hung about [his neck], and he should be sunk in the depths of the sea, than that he should cast a stumbling-block before one of my little ones. Your schism has subverted [the faith of] many, has discouraged many, has given rise to doubt in many, and has caused grief to us all. And still your sedition continueth." Clement of Rome[regn c.A.D. 91-101],To the Corinthians,46(A.D. 91),in ANF,I:17-18

if some non-Christian cults like yours believes in a caste-system, that's the cult's problems

Now, some folks are moving away from your cult and going for RCIA classes -- for conversion/return to Christianity

It's sad that your cult believes in a caste-system, covenant theology and all of that, but you can still find Christ's love.

"Now your favorite catechism..."

To present the Baltimore Catechism as something other than a primer aimed at introducing children to Catholic doctrine and terminology and as something definitive, particularly in light of our many conversations on this subject, is pathetically and willfully disingenuous. Even funnier is the fact that you got the meaning wrong. You should be embarrassed that you still failed to even comprehend the basics that the Baltimore Catechism taught. LOL. The Eucharist is the One Sacrifice made present. It is not a re-sacrifice or a reenactment.

you mean Reformatting day.

Isn't it time for your cult to split again over whether to eat muffins before or after the scones?

You have the first generation namely Lutheran sticking close to orthodoxy with the Lutherans holding to the True Presence in the Eucharist, to Baptismal regeneration etc.

"I heard that the reason for some of our friends moving away was to go for RCIA classes -- for conversion to Catholicism.

In my RCIA classes there are quite a few former Presbyterians and Protestants all of whom often comment that they were taught lies about the Church. This is a common theme recounted by RCIA team members from parishes across our diocese and I am sure from across the country.

Have faith that Calvinism is not the "Gates" of Hell, it only looks and acts like it.

What is incredible is so called Calvinist groups like Rnmom's will support groups like Iscool's which take the arian heresy to its ultimate extent.

These groups have nothing in common but their despise of Christ's Church. Incredible, eh?

I don't know what your Arian heresy is but I suspect it has a great deal to do with their refusal to bow down to your religion and your pope...

And I could probably say with confidence that they considered your religion to be just as heretical as you claim they are...

These groups have nothing in common but their despise of Christ's Church. Incredible, eh?

What IS true is that what we have in common with each other, we don't have in common with your religion...

And one of those things is that we know our destination in heaven is sure and secure...

If we never do a good work from here on out, we've still got a place prepared in heaven for us...

But that won't be the case because God has and will continue to do good works thru us...

He's even got us preaching to you in hopes that you might chose to get saved and THEN become a member of the real body of Christ...

Go away. We Christians (Lutherans, Catholics, Presbyterians, Baptists, Anglicans, Pentecostals, Methodists, Orthodox etc) are talking about Christian matters We don't comment if your non-Christian cult wants to argue with others about whichever Hadiths or suras it likes.

I'd rather discuss with Christians than with the likes of your group

By Evangelical standards, the interpreter of Scripture is not the reader, but God the Holy Spirit.

Any man who attempts to interpret Scripture independent of God the Holy Spirit, fails to remain in fellowship with God through faith in Christ.

Worse than this, are man-made institutions attempting to counterfeit what God provides, then insist others follow them based upon an authority they demand they have been given, but still fail to remain in faith with Christ.

Let's delve back even to more basics, iscool -- whatever else RnMomof7 may argue about, her group believes in the Trinity, One God, Father Son and Holy Spirit -- of One being

Her group doesn't believe in a Modal god....

your religious group with its various suras etc, on the other hand...

The Eucharist is the One Sacrifice made present. It is not a re-sacrifice or a reenactment.

That's a real nonsensical statement...And what's more nonsensical is that you guys spew it out and expect people to believe it...

So how would you have Tiny Tim singing Tip Toe Thru The Tulips made present at every Catholic church on the planet at the same time???

It's not only ridiculous to have an incident in the past made present, Jesus never suggested or hinted that any one of you Catholics or he himself would perform that stunt...

In fact, he warned against those who would claim any such nonsense...

Mar 13:21 And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not:
Mar 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.

Sounds like you guys have been seduced...

Cronos: We Christians

Iscool: Awww, poor baby...

Ah, don't pity us Christians (Lutherans, CAtholics, Baptists, Pentecostals, Presbyterians, Methodists etc) will keep believing in Christ as our Lord, God and Savior -- if your group wishes to continue "pitying" Christians, it can go ahead.

HaHaHaHa....Whether God picked us or not, we are still saved by grace thru faith, without any Catholic works, lest one of us should boast...

You ought to stop worrying about free will and concentrate on what you are counting on to get you to heaven...You got wet??? You ate the cracker??? You're working up a sweat trying to do works good enough to get you there???

Worrying about whether you pick God or God picked you is the least of your worries...
