A tick-borne infection known as Babesiosis, which can cause severe disease and even death, is becoming a growing threat to the U.S. blood supply, government researchers said on Monday.

There are currently no diagnostic tests approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that can detect the infection before people donate blood.

Babesiosis - makes you see women as if you have on your beer goggles - can lead to some very uncomfortable mornings after.

from the article:
-currently no diagnostic tests approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that can detect the infection-

I wonder if that means there is a test in existence,
but it can’t be used.

Anything that mentions a gov’t agency gets my radar up.

The article is extremely deceptive. Babesiosis is a form of Tick-borne Lyme Disease, which the CDC has for years claimed doesn’t exist. Nothing to see here folks, move along.

Now they report it and avoid the word Lyme; don’t want to let people know what liars they are.

Well...my dog was tested...he had Lyme and Babiosis exposure..both tickborne. You would think if they can find it in dogs, they could test a blood donor or blood supply.

True! I thought—— www.Igenex.com -—— a great lab for tick illnesses could test for it.

Actually, babesiosis is an entirely different organism from the Lyme spirochete. It just happens to accompany the Lyme disease infections rather often, since the belly of a tick can contain both.

FALSE. Babesiosis is caused by a protozoal parasite. Lyme Disease is caused by bacteria.

Active cases of Babesia can be detected by examining a stained blood slide. Babesia look like small dots in the rbc. There is also a more expensive test that can detect the disease prior to the appearance of Babesia on the slide.

The problem is just examining a slide can lead to a false negative and the more definitive testing is more expensive and takes longer to perform.
