Minneapolis, Minnesota (CNN) –Prior to 2006, few people even knew that then-Minnesota state legislator Keith Ellison was a Muslim. Because of his English name, he said, no one thought to ask.
But five years ago, when he ran for a seat in the United States House of Representatives - a race he would go on to win - word of his religious affiliation began to spread.
“When I started running for Congress it actually took me by surprise that so many people were fascinated with me being the first Muslim in Congress,” said Ellison, a Democrat now serving his third term in the House.
“But someone said to me, ‘Look Keith, think of a person of Japanese origin running for Congress six years after Pearl Harbor–this might be a news story.’”
Though Ellison's status as the first Muslim elected to Congress is widely known, fewer are aware that he was born into a Catholic family in Detroit and was brought up attending Catholic schools.
But he said he was never comfortable with that faith.
“I just felt it was ritual and dogma,” Ellison said. “Of course, that’s not the reality of Catholicism, but it’s the reality I lived. So I just kind of lost interest and stopped going to Mass unless I was required to.”
It wasn’t until he was a student at Wayne State University in Detroit when Ellison began, “looking for other things.”

And as always in these discussions, I want to point out that “The Inquisition” is vague. Which one? There were several.
The Catholic answer is, “Of course! I was baptized.”
Wait - no one is suggesting that Jesus is in a perpetual state of being crucified. The mystical part happened on Good Friday.

Correct - all of our sins (meaning us moderns and anyone A.D.) were future to Him - however the sins of those around Him and those in the past (B.C.) were also under consideration (By the Father).
Do you have any sources for that Apostolic Tradition story of Mary's assumption? Did anyone reliable write about such an event? Did anyone actually see it happen? Did John, to whom Jesus entrusted the care of his mother, write anything about it? I assume she probably was not still alive when he was exiled on the island of Patmos (90AD) and wrote the book of Revelation. I have no problem about it if people want to believe that she was assumed either alive or dead, but I am curious about when such a dogma was adopted into the Catholic faith and why it was.

I sure have. And I know that I do not confuse the inquisition with the Church of Rome itself. The Spanish Inquisition, for instance, was staffed by ecclesiastical AND SECULAR officials. The simple fact is that you most likely have never read a single book on the inquisition and have no idea of what you’re talking about.

Impossible. 1) Everyone questioned by the inquisition was asked who their enemies were. All the woman would have to do is say that the priest was her enemy and that would be the end of it. 2) People were NEVER tortured to death and in fact torture was extremely rare. Off the top of my head, I know of no cases at all of women being tortured. 3) Torture - really a form of water boarding - was used to gain information. No blood could be spilled. No bones broken. No permanent harm done. No one could be tortured more than once and no one could be tortured for more than 15 minutes.

That’s complete nonsense. First, the first inquisition was around 1200. The last one of a similar nature to that one was in the early 18th century. That means no more than 500 years, not 1200 years. Also, no more than 15,000 people total were ever executed after inquisition trials - and all were executed by the state. The Church had no authority or ability to execute and never wanted it. The number I just gave is what reputable historians put forward. Only cranks and bigots out of touch with reality make claims in the millions. Here’s ho wwe know that to be the case:
75,000, 000 supposed victims divided by 500 years = an average of 410 executions every single day. If there were that many executions for 500 years, or even for one year, someone would have noticed. Not a single record - LITERALLY NOT ONE SINGLE RECORD - even gives a remote hint about executions numbering in the thousands week after week for hundreds of years on end. It just never happened. And people who make such claims make themselves look like morons to those of us who actually read books and can do basic math. Most anti-Catholics, however, are too stupid to do basic math apparently, and too bigotted to read books.

I don't wonder...First off, Jesus already knows that we do not dishonor his earthly mother...And secondly, he will say,

Jesus honored his mother, and his father...But he never told us to unduly honor his parents...Was Mary the most blessed [not bles'sed] among women??? Certainly...She received the greatest blessing...
