CHICAGO, Illinois, August 17, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) An influential Chicago priest is at the helm of a violence prevention group that included Planned Parenthood in an after-school alliance and approved a grant for the abortion giant in 2005.
Fr. Larry Dowling, the priest at Chicagos St. Agathas Parish, is the chairman of the board for the Illinois Center for Violence Prevention. On a recent version of its website, the group listed leading pro-abortion and pro-homosexual organizations as resources, and it currently advertises its director for policys past lobby work on behalf of reproductive rights.
In an interview with LifeSiteNews, Fr. Dowling expressed doubts that ICVP had ever associated themselves with Planned Parenthood. He said they do not actively support other pro-abortion and pro-homosexual groups.
LifeSiteNews reported last year that Fr. Dowling had led a cadre of priests in opposing major pro-life reforms at Chicagos branch of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. In a letter, he told Cardinal Francis George that it has been an insult to many [CCHD grantees] to be asked, Does your organization support abortion or same-sex marriage?
ICVP Director for Policy and Advocacy Wendy Chill is the former executive director of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of New Jersey. Her biography on ICVPs website notes she has advocated for the passage and defeat of numerous pieces of legislation in multiple matters including health care and reproductive rights.

Jesus said: "You know a tree by its fruit..."
It is hard for me to believe that the former director of Planned Parenthood affliates in New Jersey, or people connected with Gay/Lesbian groups are going to change their tune...
Sounds like this priest should meet with Cardinal George over this controversy...
I have been doing that as much as possible...
I bet Pope Benedict has the same sorta problem.
...at the helm of a violence prevention group that included Planned Parenthood in an after-school alliance and approved a grant for the abortion giant in 2005.
Why meet with the Cardinal? He’s clearly irrelevant. He has allowed Pfleger to defy him with impunity. Bernardin left a cesspool, and George hasn’t cleaned it up.
I thought Father Dowling was supposed to CATCH murderers?
I thought Father Dowling was supposed to CATCH murderers?
Did you forget that Pfleger promised to leave within a certain amount of time?
What doesn’t this priest understand about “Thou shalt not kill.”?????
I was talking about the multiple times Pfleger was ordered to leave St. Sabina’s, and didn’t.
Father Pfleger recanted so he could remain a priest.
Cardinal George is patient with this situation, but Father Pfleger is moving to a High School and losing his parish.
Period.
And you might ask why a High School?
A High School does not provide Father Pfleger with the same powers as a Parish. He is extremely limited in that setting.
A pastor of a Parish can defy the local Bishop/Archbishop/Cardinal.
However, in such a case, the Bishop/Archbishop/Cardinal can have said priest removed from the parish.
This happened with Father Leroy Smith when the Bishop of Cincinnati wanted him to remove all sorts of things to make his Catholic parish more Protestant -- remove statues, remove the communion rail, remove the tabernacle from behind the altar.
Father Leroy Smith very politely told the Bishop that he could have those changes done, but not while he was pastor of the parish.
In 2004, I spoke with Father John Corapi about this story, who has a Canon Law degree, and he confirmed that Father Leroy Smith was correct in his stand and what the Bishop would have to do.
A priest who was present did not realize the powers of a pastor of a parish, and marveled at this conversation...
Bottom line, the pastor of a parish in the Roman Catholic Church is the Shepherd of that parish, which Canon Law supports.
This allows good shepherds/pastors freedom to take care of their flock...
In the case of bad shepherds, such as Father Pfleger, they can be moved to a place where they can be watched and monitored, and where they have very limited authority -- the Catholic High School.
