Church Denies Being Anti-Gay After Starbucks CEO Cancels Speech

The pastor of South Barrington-based Willow Creek Community Church disputes claims made in an online petition which prompted the head of Starbucks to cancel a speaking engagement at a church-sponsored event.

As WBBM Newsradio’s Bernie Tafoya reports, Starbucks chief executive officer Howard Schultz was supposed to speak Friday at the Willow Creek Global Leadership Summit. But after an online petition claimed Willow Creek is anti-gay, Schultz backed out of the commitment.

Senior Pastor Rev. Bill Hybels told 8,000 people at the conference Thursday that Willow Creek is not anti-gay, the Daily Herald reported. But the church’s official position does indicate a disapproval of same-sex relationships, in accordance with Biblical ethics.

That means sex is to be reserved between a man and a woman, regardless of their orientation, and those who are not married are to be abstinent and celibate, the Daily Herald explained.

I am glad the pastor sticks to their standards, but it is distressing that he must clarify anything due to liberal homosexualist pressure.

That's a church worth attending. The Bible is the final authority on scripture, and Starbucks would lose me as a customer over this if they hadn't already lost me long ago.

ALL purchases are moral/ethical decisions, and Starbucks is on the disappointingly long list of companies I don't deal with. Places like Starbucks join the crooked companies I am boycotting for life, including GM, Chrysler, and Bank of America (see the massively corrupt TARP/Bailout fiasco of 2008 if you're wondering why). Those who surrender early may avoid a fight with the far left thugs, but it will cost them.

A Church hating sin can be called anti-sin but not anti-sinner

The Church loves the sinner and its goal is to bring the sinner closer to God for them to stop sinning.

These people have no idea and this petition is obviously written by someone who is clueless about Christians.

The secular culture makes no distinction between being against a certain behavior and being personally against the one doing it.

"the church has “‘outreach’ programs to the LGBT community to spread their anti-LGBT message.” What a liberal hit piece. Christian outreach programs seek to reconcile people to God by giving them a chance to respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ; which is an act of love.

Unfortunately in today's bigoted pro-perversion climate, the headline reads like, "Politician denies beating his wife."

Did the reporter ask Willow Creek when it will stop "hating" gays?

Ridiculous.

I will say it again: Homosexual "rights" and religious freedom are simply NOT compatible.

It is truly depressing to know that that a small minority can strike terror in individuals like Shultz. We are not talking about a KKK event, we are talking about mainstream Christians.

What these activists groups don’t recognize, is that they truly believe that their rights and beliefs supersede those of Christians. Fine, but wait until some other group comes along and makes the same claim about their beliefs and Gay activists are on the receiving end. (No pun intended)

In that case I will permanently back out of purchasing or buying any more Starbucks coffee period. In fact it is way overpriced & bitter tasting anyway. The libturds love to frequent Starbucks however as they view it as chic & hip. IMO that's another reason to boycott Starbucks. Go to McDonalds instead. The price of coffee with senior discount is 50 cents and free refills.

Costco House Blend. Approx $11 for a two pound bag of whole beans. Tastes infinitely better than Starbucks.

Nowadays, unless you are just slobberingly pro-homosexual and actively support their agenda, you are “anti-gay.”

Indeed. It’s gotten to the point if you disagree with a homosexual person on any topic, you’re “homophobic.” Kind of like anyone who’s not a fan of Obama is “racist.”
