Long Island Episcopal Bishop Lawrence Provenzano has put his foot down against gay clergy who residing in homosexual relationships, and has given a nine month deadline for them to either get married or stop living together, according to the News Observer.
I need to be mindful that the church has always asked people to live in committed monogamous, faithful relationships. I wont allow heterosexual clergy to live in a rectory or church housing without the benefit of marriage. When one puts it in that context, then you see how it all begins to make sense, said Provenzano.
Reverend Christopher Hofer, pastor of the Episcopal Church of St. Jude agrees with Provenzano, I think his statement was not only fair, but beyond generous. It gives people time, acknowledging that theres a financial component involved and recognizing that some may not choose to live together.
Now that the state is recognizing civil marriage, we as priests, perhaps deacons too, who are in committed relationships, have a choice: we either live what we preach to become civilly married or we live apart, he said.
According to SRN news, no other Episcopal dioceses in states with same-gender marriage have set an explicit deadline for gay clergy to marry their live in partners.

I dunno... Maybe stomp their feet petulantly, then hold their breath until their faces turn blue?

Van Winkle, Rip? Your table is ready.
Hey I guess I’m behind the times on this “gay” clergy thing.
But I keep up with the modern world. I got a push button phone, and I got me one of them “VCR” things last year to tape TV shows. I even got a clock radio which has both AM and FM stations. How about that??
speaking of radio, I gotta check to see what time Arthur Godfrey and Earl Nightingale come on...............
Well, NO, actually! Some ex-Catholics like the fellowship that they find in Episcopal churches.
Yeah, I just bet they do.
Are you always so snarky? Would you like the word “sisterhood” or “friendship” or “warm feeling of community” better?
Only when called for.
Would you like the word sisterhood or friendship or warm feeling of community better?
There are better places to get that than a "church" that embraces homosexuality.
I don’t believe that it “embraces” homosexuality - it embraces its congregants, some of whom, just happen to be gay and I am not a fan of the gay life style. Did you not hear of the book and film “The Fellowship of the Ring”? Do you think that the Hobbits are gay? There is always the possibility that church membership helps people to walk the straight and narrow.
Some people thought that I was nuts when I predicted that it would become mandatory. I think that these idiots have taken a step towards that.
Wrong. They ordained their first openly homosexual priest in 1977. That's shameful AND it IS embracing homosexuality.
Luther did....Calvin did....Wesley did....Henry VIII did...Zwingley did....Eddy did....Smith did
They changed it but they didn’t lie about the change and at the very least renamed what they called themselves.....and did not identify as a Catholic.
why change it???They felt that they cpould do a better interpretation than did the 1,500 year old Catholic church which had actually preserved the bible for us by hand copying it through the ages.....pathetic
Why do people “change” anything.....they think they are “god” and know everything—certainly more than a lowly mind such as St. Thomas Aquinas.
Human nature is what it is....and it hasn’t changed since Eve. Deceit and pride is here to stay, I am afraid.
My posts basically say the same thing....Nature Law Theory does not evolve...it never changes...(it is the MO of marxists/atheists/progressives/pagans/whoever they call themselves now to deny that nature of man which presupposes a Intelligent Designer....there is no Universal Truth....No right and wrong....other than what marx says is right....We are now in the “Age of Relativism” which will destroy civilization as we know it....it will kill off Truth and with that...Trust...the most essential aspect of civil society.
It is what destroyed Russia and China—lack of Trust—and destroys families—and really destroys the emotional development of children. Makes freedom impossible and happiness obsolete.
