Pastors: Homosexuality not a sin (100 ordained Christian ministers have signed the proclamation)

A group of Omaha pastors has issued a proclamation that states homosexuality is not a sin.

More than 100 ordained Christian ministers have signed the proclamation, including leaders from Lutheran, Episcopalian, United Church of Christ, United Methodist, and Presbyterian churches.

David Bydalek is executive director of Family First, the family policy council for the state of Nebraska. He deems this effort troubling for many Nebraskans and contends the ministers involved are from liberal denominations that do not respect the orthodox biblical teaching on homosexuality.

“How big has Glenn Beck’s latter day black robed brigade gotten?”

I think it’s languishing:

Living as Children of Light

Eph 4:17

So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. [18] They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. [19] Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.

They have chosen to denounce and reject their Savior in a pathetic attempt to curry favor with homosexuals and the left.

The really sad part is that this will not make homosexuals or leftists like them or admire them. What it will do is remove one of the few remaining sources of strength and conviction to confused young people continually assaulted with homosexual propaganda. These people are worse than cowards, they are actively and publicly rejecting the time tested principles of personal morality that have served us for centuries.

Wow...I didn’t realize there was a GLBT version of the Bible. That’s one I’m going to pass on...

That’s the one that says “go and sin some more”.

Properly defined, I might be able to agree that homosexuality is not a sin, IF by homosexuality you mean the inclination toward same-sex sexualy activity. One may not be able to help what sin one WANTS to commit (there are lots of sins that tempt me every day!) but as long as you don’t give in to that temptation, have you sinned? I am oriented toward all sorts of sexual impropriety (being a straight man, I think that is normal, if not a good thing). If I acted upon every desire I had, well, I’d get slapped a lot, if not worse. But having the desire is one thing. Doing the deed is another.

Well, if you mean "homosexuality" as in being a homosexual, no, it never was a sin.

If, however, you mean "homosexuality" as engaging in homosexual acts, then yes, that is a sin.

There's nothing like using good semantics in a statement; and this statement is nothing like that.

“All of these denominations accept divorce too so no big surprise.”

#####

The local UCC has installed a new state of the art LCD color video sign that features among its many promotional messages “Divorce Care” for kids.

Now I’m all for child care for those that need it, but why unnecessarily blurt out “Divorce” as if its an assumed fact of life, like changing jobs.

They're right. It's a disordered, same-sex attraction, but the condition is not sinful.

Homosexual acts, on the other hand, are acts of "grave depravity" (see above). The sin is sodomy.

” The seven sisters are fallen. “ <<<

There is a hypothesis that these are actually Ages of the Church on earth. For myself, I try not to read Scripture from an American point of view, that it centers around US thought, sects, and culture. Just sayin’.

So what? THEY don’t get to make that call. God does and He has. Homosexuality IS a sin.

It’s near impossible to meet a person who is overtly homosexual and not picture in your mind what that means in the flesh...

wow, since that is no longer a sin, then I’m curious if going to prostitutes is still a sin.
What about sleeping with your best friend’s wife?
Surely having a one-night stand with some drunk woman at a club can’t be considered anymore. Is it safe that there is no longer any lust based sins?

Good thing we are warned in the Bible about false teachers. I will not hate gays...they are sinners for whom Christ died, as am I. But my sin must be removed from my life and the same goes for everyone.

These pastors need to repent.

No sarc tag needed...these “pastor” clowns are idiots. I’m just waiting for the “beastiality is not a sin” announcement.

but the condition is not sinful

I don't think that's what these progressive pastors intended to convey. They were referring not to the homosexual orientation but to the homosexual lifestyle.

All churches with falling membership. If there is no morality, then anything goes and why should I give money to the church when I can spend it on pleasing me?

+++++++++

The largest U.S. mainline churches are sometimes referred to as the Seven Sisters of American Protestantism. The term was apparently coined by William Hutchison in reference to the major liberal groups of American Baptists, Disciples of Christ, Congregationalists / United Church of Christ, Episcopalians, Lutherans, Methodists, and Presbyterians during the period between 1900 and 1960.
