Know Mormons' beliefs before voting for them
WyomingTribuneEagle ^ | July 9, 2011 | Dion Clark

In response to whether the public should vote for a Mormon for president, one should know what beliefs a candidate had.

Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman have Mormon roots and they have been vague about their beliefs and loyalty to the LDS church.

Mormon theology includes ideas like their priesthood brethren will become the government leaders, or future kings of the world, in a globalized theocracy, and that their male leaders will take over when a second coming of Christ occurs. They believe they are the pre-ordained leaders to rule over a coming theocratic kingdom.

Worthy Mormon males are temple attending, dressing in white with special learned handshakes, altar rituals, Masonic rites and gestures and do secretive activities different from normal society.

They believe they are the future gods of new worlds in a life after this one. They follow prophets with ever-changing doctrine and change their fictional "Book of Mormon" every time it is found to be un-politically correct.

Their women are taught they are good for breeding, to have large families.

A member of this cult is loyal to its church leaders and to whatever their modern prophets tell them is gospel, which changes at their will.

They claim to be Christian, but Mormon polytheism of many gods/goddesses in a hereafter, rituals that must be performed in their temples, garment wearing and works (not grace) that saves a person is different ideology.

It is debatable whether Mormons are Christians, and they have other scriptures special to Mormonism written by their leaders, not just the New Testament, like their Doctrine and Covenants and Book of Mormon.

To learn about them and their practices, beliefs and personal character will help us determine whether they are the future leaders of Americans. Or are they really stuck in their controversial past?

Generally, I guess I’d rather have a Mormon who loves, and is committed to preserving, the Constituion...

Guess if I was a pre-born baby, I can't see the difference 'tween a Mormon NOT committed to preserving my life (Romney) and a Bill Clinton similarly NOT committed.

If the babies are being dismembered and either flushed down the toilet or body parts are being sent in all directions, the constitution starts to look like a pager tiger, does it not?

Still haven’t learned to ping.

Read the admonition slowly - arguement STARTED on one thread carried over to another.

This is not the case BM

How many times do you have to have it explained to you before you get it right?

Well that’s certainly confusing. Since Mormons aren’t Jewish how can a Jew be a gentile? I mean that’s a common Jewish term applied to non-Jews.

“Badgering a poster on the Religion Forum by serving up a litany of his posts is “making it personal.” “

Please explain how post # 427 not a list of posts.

As was explained to you - the individual wanted examples - those examples were provided. Look up the definition of "badgering" while you are at it BM.

How you get all that from my comment is strikingly similar to my whole statement...thank you for proving my point!

Hardly rocket science. Combining your criticism of those who disagree with Mormonism with your statement that each person must follow their own faith leads immediately to the conclusion that you don't place much value on apologetics or evangelism.

My walk, is my own with the lord, you must be called to do as he wills in another way, God bless you!

Fine. However, if you claim to be guided by the New Testament, then you are overlooking large portions of it which call for us to defend the faith. I'm not suggesting (nor does the New Testament) that we do battle over every difference of opinion about theology but there are certain deviations which are so major that the issue must be contested for the sake of the one who is in error. (See post #68)

BM...you link to a 1972 article the Lds had on abortion.

The problem is the Lds church then in its 1973 statement for abortion allowed for exceptions; and continued to expand those exceptions as time went along! Even Lds scholar Richard Bushman admitted as much:

Mormon scholar Richard Bushman: There was a moment in the late 1980s when the church came down with an absolute no on abortion. And then very quickly it moderated – look, the health of the mother has to be taken into account; all sorts of other things.

You have yet to prove that here.

If you have any further questions regarding a simple rule - PM the mod OK bm. Perhaps they may be more impressed by your reading comprehension the I.

“if he’s the only one to stop zero, yes. you can help zero get re-elected, i refuse to.”

Sorry Charlie. A nomination of Willardo is a reelection of zero. I will be out fishing that day... unless Sarah goes rogue as a rep of the Rogue Party.

Other than that, you can work hard for Mitt, but you will just be tired when you watch zero win.

I’ve seen commentary that Catholics were singled out more by mormon missionaries than other Christians because the members didn’t generally have a good grasp of their doctrines and theology and could easily become swayed by the “Christian sounding” terms and arguements of mormons.

I can comprehend the simple rule.

As stated offering up a list of posts is badgering and making it personal.

I have seating here a Wasilla High School English Teacher that reads this the same way I do.
