Author: LDS is 'dangerous religion' [Romney article]

Bill Keller infamously announced in 2007, "If you vote for Mitt Romney, you are voting for Satan!"

While expressing less vitriol in his delivery, evangelical author Warren Cole Smith said something similar in his recent article, "A Vote for Romney Is a Vote for the LDS Church."

Smith wrote, "I believe a candidate who either by intent or effect promotes a false and dangerous religion is unfit to serve. … A Romney presidency would have the effect of actively promoting a false religion in the world. If you have any regard for the Gospel of Christ, you should care. A false religion should not prosper with the support of Christians. The salvation of souls is at stake."

Mormon scholar and author Joanna Brooks spoke with Smith about his views regarding Mormonism. In the interview posted on religiondispatches.org, Brooks said: "I can understand from an evangelical perspective why you view our religion as 'false.' But why do you think we are 'dangerous?'"

Smith replied, "Let me ask you: is anything that is false not dangerous? Anything false is dangerous. Falsehood leads to danger."

Brooks countered by asking if other faiths he considered theologically "false" like Judaism and Catholicism are also dangerous. Smith said that those faiths are both different from Mormonism.

MORMON
Chapter 6

The Nephites gather to the land of Cumorah for the final battles—Mormon hides the sacred records in the hill Cumorah—The Lamanites are victorious, and the Nephite nation is destroyed—Hundreds of thousands are slain with the sword. About A.D. 385.

1 And now I finish my record concerning the destruction of my people, the Nephites. And it came to pass that we did march forth before the Lamanites.

2 And I, Mormon, wrote an epistle unto the king of the Lamanites, and desired of him that he would grant unto us that we might gather together our people unto the land of Cumorah, by a hill which was called Cumorah, and there we could give them battle.

3 And it came to pass that the king of the Lamanites did grant unto me the thing which I desired.

4 And it came to pass that we did march forth to the land of Cumorah, and we did pitch our tents around about the hill Cumorah; and it was in a land of many waters, rivers, and fountains; and here we had hope to gain advantage over the Lamanites.

5 And *when three hundred and eighty and four years had passed away, we had gathered in all the remainder of our people unto the land of Cumorah.

6 And it came to pass that when we had gathered in all our people in one to the land of Cumorah, behold I, Mormon, began to be old; and knowing it to be the last struggle of my people, and having been commanded of the Lord that I should not suffer the records which had been handed down by our fathers, which were sacred, to fall into the hands of the Lamanites, (for the Lamanites would destroy them) therefore I made this record out of the plates of Nephi, and hid up in the hill Cumorah all the records which had been entrusted to me by the hand of the Lord, save it were these few plates which I gave unto my son Moroni.

7 And it came to pass that my people, with their wives and their children, did now behold the armies of the Lamanites marching towards them; and with that awful fear of death which fills the breasts of all the wicked, did they await to receive them.

8 And it came to pass that they came to battle against us, and every soul was filled with terror because of the greatness of their numbers.

9 And it came to pass that they did fall upon my people with the sword, and with the bow, and with the arrow, and with the ax, and with all manner of weapons of war.

10 And it came to pass that my men were hewn down, yea, even my ten thousand who were with me, and I fell wounded in the midst; and they passed by me that they did not put an end to my life.

11And when they had gone through and hewn down all my people save it were twenty and four of us, (among whom was my son Moroni) and we having survived the dead of our people, did behold on the morrow, when the Lamanites had returned unto their camps, from the top of the hill Cumorah, the ten thousand of my people who were hewn down, being led in the front by me.

12 And we also beheld the ten thousand of my people who were led by my son Moroni.

13 And behold, the ten thousand of Gidgiddonah had fallen, and he also in the midst.

14 And Lamah had fallen with his ten thousand; and Gilgal had fallen with his ten thousand; and Limhah had fallen with his ten thousand; and Jeneum had fallen with his ten thousand; and Cumenihah, and Moronihah, and Antionum, and Shiblom, and Shem, and Josh, had fallen with their ten thousand each.

15 And it came to pass that there were ten more who did fall by the sword, with their ten thousand each; yea, even all my people, save it were those twenty and four who were with me, and also a few who had escaped into the south countries, and a few who had deserted over unto the Lamanites, had fallen; and their flesh, and bones, and blood lay upon the face of the earth, being left by the hands of those who slew them to molder upon the land, and to crumble and to return to their mother earth.

16 And my soul was rent with anguish, because of the slain of my people, and I cried:

17 O ye fair ones, how could ye have departed from the ways of the Lord! O ye fair ones, how could ye have rejected that Jesus, who stood with open arms to receive you!

18 Behold, if ye had not done this, ye would not have fallen. But behold, ye are fallen, and I mourn your loss.

19 O ye fair sons and daughters, ye fathers and mothers, ye husbands and wives, ye fair ones, how is it that ye could have fallen!

20 But behold, ye are gone, and my sorrows cannot bring your return.

21 And the day soon cometh that your mortal must put on immortality, and these bodies which are now moldering in corruption must soon become incorruptible bodies; and then ye must stand before the judgment-seat of Christ, to be judged according to your works; and if it so be that ye are righteous, then are ye blessed with your fathers who have gone before you.

22 O that ye had repented before this great destruction had come upon you. But behold, ye are gone, and the Father, yea, the Eternal Father of heaven, knoweth your state; and he doeth with you according to his justice and mercy.

Mormon 8:2
And now it came to pass that after the great and tremendous battle at Cumorah, behold, the Nephites who had escaped into the country southward were hunted by the Lamanites, until they were all destroyed.

Oh gawwwd, the anti-Mormon haters are out in full-fledged hysteria again. Why don’t you people attack Romney for his socialist health care plan, or his flip flopping on the issues, or raising taxes, or how he buys up companies and rapes the employees, then sells for profit as viable companies?

These hysterical anti-Mormons spent three freaking days pulling off attacks on a fellow Christian. It’s insane!

If you bother to read, you will see that we do. However, from what moral base / worldview does he justify his decisions? Should his religious beliefs be ignored when his own supporters are putting them out front and center? Well, we see it again today - mutt believes in man caused global warming - a fantasy drummed up by the envirowacko community. What predisposes him to believe such bunk? I don't know, may be because he accepts as truth a proven con-man to be the voice of God restoring religion to the world and that a book this guy supposedly 'translated' is the history of the founders of amerindians in the western hemisphere.

Well, if you believe that Romney is practicing religion in his politics, fine. If he had any religious morals at all, even those described in Mormonism, would he be promulgating government scams and business scams like he does? The thing is that they’re putting his religion out there to distract you from his flawed governance and business practices and you’re buying it. They don’t want you to look at his actions. They want you out there showing your bigotism so they can point at you. The more they can show Christians as bigots the better for them.

And of course the more they attack Mormonism, the more they can set out to attack all religious practices.

What’s happening is you’re aiding and abetting...and THAT is why I choose only to address his dastardly actions!

These hysterical anti-Mormons spent three freaking days pulling off attacks on a fellow Christian.

So it doesn't matter how many gods you believe in? Are fundamentalist Mormons "Christian," too? (Yes?) If not, why not?

Overall, you continue to launch -- to use your own rhetoric -- into a "hateful" posting campaign vs. those you deem as "anti-Mormonism." Apparently, you are so "anti" the "anti-MormonISM" posters, you can't help but say "hateful" things about us.

(Don't you have some sociological research to do or something...with most of the other liberals who tend to hang out MOST in the sociological wings of our "fine" college campuses?)

See my post to Godzilla...the left is using you and pointing to you as a Christian bigot. They don’t want you talking about his politics and his business practices. Do you like being used as tool by the left?

He would be following the example of his prophet joseph smith -

Source for your reading

The thing is that they’re putting his religion out there to distract you from his flawed governance and business practices and you’re buying it.

You didn't read my prior too closely did you? I fully recognize those points as disqualifers to the office. I also recognize that his WORLD VIEWS that contribute to his record of malfeasance in office springs up from his mormon background (he certainly didn't get it from the amish).

They want you out there showing your bigotism so they can point at you. The more they can show Christians as bigots the better for them.

Maybe if you are a demoncrat - but mutts people calling Christians 'bigots' would go down well in the Bible belt as well as among other conservatives. Your smears here calling us 'bigots' only assists that cause now doesn't it.

And of course the more they attack Mormonism, the more they can set out to attack all religious practices.

LOL, you are grossly ignorant of the religion aren't you. They do that already on a daily basis and have done so since day one.

What’s happening is you’re aiding and abetting...and THAT is why I choose only to address his dastardly actions!

Ah such unrefined bovine excrament rowdy.

You are, this is the third time youve tried to get me to say how I feel about the Mormon religion while ignoring what I have to say. IT might be better if you just post pointless pictures.

What standards are you talking about? I was asked to back up my point, so I did. If I made a claim about Mormon theology, I would back it up as well.

If I saw constant threads by someone using every article about what Exxon does, whether it be charity or business, to lambaste the company and go off on a pre-written tangent, I would offer the same opinion.

Yes, I know they use you like tools, no I’m not a lefty, but I’m not going to attack the man’s religious practices, I’m going to address the really serious issue of his governance. I’ve stated that from the very first post.

I can just see the headlines now from the MSM...”Bigoted Christians Won’t Talk Issues...Just Religion” with a byline...Christians are so mired in competing religious dogma that they can’t see issues. Hysterical harridans raged on for the entire campaign about magic underwear, flying monkeys that those that needed to see the issues missed hearing about them. Thus Romney wins in the primaries. This is why it is so important the democratic party must keep pointing out the need for separation of church and state...

You see how that goes, fellas?

We will point out the flaws in mutts (and huntsman’s) religion as long as their supporters drag it out and wave it around. His world view is base upon that and by the very nature of the ‘testimony’ he is required to have lends great questionablity to his judgement and critical thinking skills. I provided you with an example that mutt has followed with his dealings.

If the flying monkeys bother you, be creative and understand just why.

BTW, Huckaby deflated mutts balloon with the question “they believe satan is the brother of Jesus” remark. It doesn’t surprise me that efforts will be made to silence any criticism of religion this time around, kinda like you are trying to do.

No sir, you provided your opinion and no facts. There’s difference. You say his actions are based on his religion...I say they’re based on corruption and greed. Those are our OPINIONS. Neither one based in fact. And both arguments cancel each other out. So why keep it up?

Your high ground by using religion, is really the low ground, and it gives others reason to criticize you, rather than taking a serious look at what Romney’s done that resembles nothing regarding religious dogma.

Now I am done posting on this thread. You can keep stroking yourself by continuing. But sir, I am DONE with it and would appreciate it not appearing in my pings anymore.

Now I am done posting on this thread.

For about the FOURTH time? ROTFL...I believe there's a little more money available for mormon retreads to access for trying to shut down Romney debate on FR threads....this is all so reminescent of the 2007-2008 attempt to take over FR on the subject.

I cited a specific example - how's the weather down in Egypt - the denial must be nice this time of year.

Oh you've been WELL done for quite some time now - to a crisp. don't like this ping - don't respond - pretty simple.

You keep saying you are leaving but never leave.
Since apparently you know nothing of mormonISM you cannot say with certainty that Romney doesn't do what he does because he is working to godhood.
I know mormonISM and I am telling you he does what he does because he is working toward godhood.
