And sharing a cell with Jimmy Carter, Joe Wilson, OJ Simpson and Obama....
The priest at Mass by me yesterday said something along the same lines, minus the Michael Moore reference , and adding that Christ forgave those who nailed Him to the Cross. It was clear to me what he meant, that we shouldn't celebrate having to do this. At least that's how I took it. I can see if he'd thrown in Michael Moore's name I would have been offended too.
The American Catholic Church turns a blind eye to abortion. Many Catholics here have said the same thing, and complained about it. Much safer to mock the celebration of Bil Laden's death.
If I wasn’t with my Mom (took her to Mass today) I would’ve walked-out. I was so upset during the homily, when the Priest saying Mass slipped-in “Michael Moore was quoted as saying America lost part of its soul by celebrating the death of Osama Bin Laden”.
This comment by our Priest, in my opinion, was terribly misguided. First of all, why quote one of the most liberally putrid pro-abortion fake Catholics in the U.S? Secondly, didn’t God give society the power to govern ourselves to secure and protect citizens? Yes, we should be pro-life, but, in the event of a Bin Laden type of EVIL in which society, and other lives are jeopardized, and seing we are at War with this type of evil....................do we not have the right to remove this threat from society?
Should I question the Priest to clarify what in the heck he truly meant by that comment?
Comments?
What’s that sorry piece of UN legislation that Democrats love concerning parties in acts of war?
I understand exactly what you mean by that, but it's not fair to people who are smart to use "intellectual" in the same sentence as "Michael Moore."
“Should I question the Priest to clarify what in the heck he truly meant by that comment?”
If this priest is so misguided that he would mention Michael Moore like that, then I’d say any attempt to reason with him would be futile.
If you have a bishop that can be reasoned with, write this priest a letter explaining how and why he gave scandal. Do not be sucked into any private meetings with this priest, or, for that matter, any meetings at all at which you have no friendly witnesses who will testify as to what was really said.
The priest will respond to your letter in one or more of any number of inappropriate ways. When he does, contact your bishop. Do not allow the priest to ambush you, or give him an opportunity to lie about what you have said.
Leftist priests are leftists first and priests maybe seventh or eighth, if in fact they have any sincere committment to the Church at all.
It’s a perilous undertaking at best. Leftist priests act like any other leftist. If your bishop isn’t rock solid, I’d say don’t even bother—unless you want to do some anonymous phamphleteering.
In all truth, I cannot see how your pastor might reconcile the Moore comment with today’s Gospel, regarding the men walking to Emmaus. I’d say it was a mistake for him to blurt that out, then. I don’t condone anything Mr. Moore says or does, aside from breathing. Is your priest perhaps one of those who might have been, umm, influenced by events of the sixties?
First of all, I am not even slightly fazed by the attempt at liberals to try and argue moral inconsistency to me, especially the false comparison between abortion and the death penalty. A person who gets the death penalty is someone who has grown up and has committed a serious crime, while a person who gets the death penalty or was killed in war made the wrong choice, and received due penalty for what they did.
Yes, we should be pro-life, but, in the event of a Bin Laden type of EVIL in which society, and other lives are jeopardized, and seing we are at War with this type of evil....................do we not have the right to remove this threat from society?
Of course, defense is something that is acceptable. God killed people sometimes just to prevent the annihilation of those who served him.
But I think the main point is that bin Laden’s death is bittersweet. I would have preferred a priest quote C.S. Lewis over Michael Moore any day. C.S. Lewis may not have been a top authority, but he did have a great deal to say about behaving oneself in a decent manner.
You should walk out and never come back.
Because the Vatican released a statement that we should not celebrate the death of any man.
Personally, I was offended by it. We as Americans were not “celebrating” the death of Osama, but rather the death of the wicked. Which is correct.
Michael Moore’s just jealous cause he didn’t get to eat OBL. On another note, my pastor, who is black, keeps reminding us to pray for the president. I don’t recall him saying that during the Bush years. I love my pastor but this annoys me.
Yes!!
....why? There is no other One True Church. Hmmmm.
.......Sure. Go to: http://priestsforlife.org/
Please.
If during WWI a commando team had dropped in on Hitler at Berchtesgaden while he and Eva were sipping tea in the terrace, what do you think would have happened? Undoubtedly, they would have put about fifty or one hundred bullets into Der Fuhrer. No trial needed. We targeted Yamamoto in a planned assassination and were successful. It was war. It’s war with Al-Qaeda, and they’re liable to be terminated with extreme prejudice when the moment arrives. It arrived for OBL last week.
I would have left Mom and walked out-spiced up her Mother day:) .Pastor call first.Tell the priest to quote the Saints .Poor showing for Priest but give him a chance.
My mom almost walked out of Mass once (maybe she did walk out, I’m not sure) when the Priest asked people include in their prayers Joey Gallo. He was was a notorious local (NYC) mobster who had just been killed. I forget who killed him too, if it was the cops or other mobsters.
