For your pinging pleasure.
Paging b-chan
Not long ago some of you were surprised to find out that monarchism is a vibrant part of the modern conservative thought, while others reacted with understanding. This is a good explanation why someone of libertarian persuasion might be a monarchist. It is similar to how my views evolved from conservative libertarianism as well.
B is back? Good.
The truth is that there is no perfect form of government because there are no perfect people. The monarchy overlooks this by portraying monarchs are being supreme people without flaws. A look at history shows great contempt for “commoners” in monarchies.
I will admit that our current situation is far from perfect. But it’s worth noting that these authors can write such articles and people can post them online without fear of legal punishment in the U.S. That’s not the case in much of the world.
What the British Monarchy does in particular is to be a point of "Britishness" for the people, the protectors of the Faith and Culture.
Here in America we have tried to make the Holidays fill that role July 4th, Memorial Day, Etc, but since the Balkanization of America these have lost their potency.
If anyone is interested I have many links at the bottom of my homepage regarding Monarchism.
Oh I wasn't surprised, annalex. Trust me on that one.

I’ll stick with a constitutional republic, even with all its flaws.
You’re in big trouble now.
Me too and the British Royals should stay right where they are. I do not want to be ruled by one person or family.
Amen! IMO a functional, constitutional representative republic is the best form of government over any country, at any time in history. I say that as a conservative, as a student of history, as a student of Reformed theology, and as a Protestant Christian. I would think that anyone who believes in constitutional originalism would say the same thing.
Anyone who claims political American conservatism should lead to monarchism is silently advocating sedition against the Constitution of the United States and is not in agreement with constitutional originalism or American political conservatism, IMO.
A Constutional Republic it is. Interesting how, at times of crisis like this, both the Left and the Right seek to disenfranchise large segments of the population. The Right would deny the vote to the welfare recipients, the “Amish” and those sucking at the public tit. The Left would deny the vote to “Teabaggers”, Rednecks and Capitalists. I will duck out just now to avoid the blasts.
Monarchism wouldn’t fit America, because it isn’t part of their national identity, it is part of Britain’s though. The main thing though, is that there should be branches of government that are not tainted by a populist democratic mandate. We need unelected upper branches to scrutinise and if neccessary reject legislation from the democratically elected lower branch.
Personally I think the US made a great mistake when they started having senatorial elections, because they completely missed the point of having an upper house in the first place...
No, that is not true. Monarchs are human; some are outright bad. The benefit of monarchy is that whatever kind the monarch is, he has the natural interest in protecting his property, which in his case is the national infrastructure, while annoying the least amount of people possible. Unlike an elected politician he has no interest in squandering it or lie to us on a 4-year cycle.
Personally, I don't think the troubles in Russia will end till monarchy is restored there.
Thanks for the links. However, dictatorship is not monarchy, and monarchy is not dictatorship. They are two different animals altogether: monarchy is a form of property whereas dictatorship (like a democracy or a republic) is a form of government — governing, that is, property of others. This is often misunderstood.
It is of course true that the American constitution precludes any form of monarchy in the United States. I don’t think a monarchy in America is possible so long as the constitutional order exists. Trouble is, how sure are you that it exists even now? And what when our national debt becomes unmanageable?
Let me also say that the recognition of monarchy as beneficial to any society does not mean any desire to restore specifically British monarchy in America. The author states that for America best would be a return to the original consitutional principles. But I don’t think that is possible within the present day political framework.
This is the future Queen Consort of Britain and the Commonwealth:

Real class there, eh?
For all their faults, First Ladies have never been out of line in regards to what they show in public and you never see stuff like this floating around the internet about them. Even Michelle doesn’t have photos like this.
