What day was Jesus Crucified? The Bible says WEDNESDAY, not Friday.
While the only thing that really matters is that he died for All of Our sins so that those who accept him might be saved, I found this to be interesting. Also this gets us to thinking about the right things this time of year. http://www.centuryone.com/crucifixion.html
there is nothing inconsequantial in knowing the truth, ignoring the truth has consequences, it leads people to think that truh does NOT matter because some few think truth is trivial.
truth is everything, not just a little thing.
It matters just a smuch that He is risen, not just that He died.
It also matters as much that it was according to the Scriptures that it all happened!
Cor 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
1Cor 15:2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
1Cor 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
1Cor 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
1Cor 15:5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:
1Cor 15:6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.
1Cor 15:7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.
1Cor 15:8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.
1Cor 15:9 For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
1Cor 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which [was bestowed] upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
1Cor 15:11 Therefore whether [it were] I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed.
1Cor 15:12 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?
1Cor 15:13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:
1Cor 15:14 And if Christ be not risen, then [is] our preaching vain, and your faith [is] also vain.
Someone posts a thread worried (yeah, worried) about if Jesus was crucified on a Wednesday or not 2,000 years ago and I proclaim HE LIVES is probably the only thing worthy of caps, and I'm the nit-picker. Ell Oh Ell.
exactly. :)
I finished formatting, I thought I saaved an html version of this, my new WORD 2010 may SAVE files in html, but it wont display the code!?!
The claim that "the Bible says Wednesday" is, under the best possible interpretation, deliberately misleading.
It makes a difference to some folks because the Seventh Day Adventists and other sabbatarian legalist cults want to believe He was crucified on a Wednesday because that would mean He had to raise again on Saturday, thus confirming (in their minds) sabbatarianism.
Noted. I was wondering what the point of the insistence on Wednesday might be. I've not encountered that before.
Interesting.
Jesus refers to the time between His burial and resurrection according to the Jewish manner of reckoning time, any part of a day being counted as a full day.
oh, no, not at all, if we KNOW what day the tomb was empty, we just count backwards
see? it really IS that simple, the tomb was found empty on the First day of the week, Sunday
No, Jesus says 3 days and 3 nights, clearly, and I show that in this essay, you must not have read it
I never heard that, but, apparently, you didnt read this either, for the 3 days are proven to be three Sabbath days, not just one Sabbath day
Sorry to hijack your thread. Honestly, I wondered what you meant by “due to bad formatting...”
You can use this web-based editor to author posts and immediately have very portable, very browser friendly HTML ready-made for you. Of course, you can’t save as you’re authoring (without copy/pasting the source out to notepad or the like), but you’ll end up with much easier to post HTML rather than MS Word converted HTML which is LOADED with MSO tags.

IF you can count, and given in our modern era, Sunday, is the 'first' day of the week, and Christ was NOT in the tomb when the 'sun' rose, it is NOT misleading to say the Bible's time-line would make it our named day Wednesday the 'day' of the Crucifixion. More than one place it is Written that Christ would be in the tomb 3 days and 3 nights. It is not even possible to get anywhere near this time frame IF the Crucifixion took place on what some claim happened on Friday.
dont worry
I used to be able to view a WORD doc in html formet, but using WORD 2010, I cant find the command!
I read it but you didn’t read mine. Friday , Saturday, Sunday each equal a day and a night.
Did you check SAVE AS and alter the file type from DOCX to HTM?
who cares....
At that time the new day began at sun set. Sun set Friday to sun set Saturday is one day and night. Saturday sun set would begin day two, and at early what we call now Sunday morning is not a full day. In this case the days are literal 24 hour days, unlike the days of creation. So start at the time when the tomb was empty and count back 3 days and 3 nights with the understanding the days then began at sun set.
You said: “It makes a difference to some folks because the Seventh Day Adventists and other sabbatarian legalist cults want to believe He was crucified on a Wednesday because that would mean He had to raise again on Saturday, thus confirming (in their minds) sabbatarianism.”
You are wholly wrong.
The Scriptures nowhere mention Wednesday.
If our indicator is the first day of the week, Scripture tells us numerous times that Jesus would be raised on the third day. If He was raised on Sunday then Sunday is the third day, Saturday is the second day and Friday is the first day.
I would also point out that if Jesus were buried for three entire days and nights then he would have been raised on the fourth day, not the third.
I will go with the nine times Scripture tells us about the third day as opposed to the one time In the New Testament a reference is made to three days and three nights - i.e. Implying a resurrection on the fourth day.
And, if we take your methodology to the extreme and get supertechnical, it would even be a fifth day, since presumably the crucifixion, indubitably a daytime event, would have taken place on an initial day, followed by three complete days and nights - days 2, 3 and 4 - followed by a resurrection after those three days and nights had been completed, or on day 5.
