Dear friends,
Last month I was a guest at the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) in Alabama, taping programs for a series on the paganization of culture. Thank you very much for your prayers for me. The shows will be broadcast on the Women of Grace program, hosted by Johnnette Bencovic, each day this coming week.
The general theme of the series is "Occult Fiction: Inroad to the Culture." Both Johnnette and myself, as well as researcher Sue Brinkmann and Fr. Edmund de Silva, comment on various aspects of the spiritual war that is taking place in books and films and games for the young (though not always just for children and teens). In our discussions we only skimmed the surface of a vast and complex phenomenon, but perhaps you will find that our thoughts offer some principles for discernment of the issues.
Or visit the Women of Grace website: www.womenofgrace.com.
I was also interviewed by Fr. Mark, OFM, the host of Life on the Rock. This interview was not for "the rock" but will be posted on Fr. Mark's personal blog. Please keep an eye on his site from time to time and the interview will appear, probably fairly soon.

As we walk with Jesus through these forty days towards the glorious dawn of Easter, may He be your constant strength and peace, in times of consolation and in times of trial. Here in the northern woodlands of Ontario the late-winter, early-spring birds have arrived, pecking for seeds amidst the dwindling snowfields. One of the smallest always appears in Lent after the long silence of winter. His little song is three notes repeated twice. Many years ago my two-year-old son Joseph explained to me that the bird was singing: "He's coming! He's coming!"
Love to you all, in Him,

Don't know why people get their panties in a bunch about stories having to do with magic and good versus evil, but I guess the old saying about Puritans extend to a lot of people today.
I’m a Christian that loves Harry Potter.
It is about good vs. evil, love, and sacrifice, and, at the end of the day, Harry always takes the moral high road.
A lot of people are in your corner, but I don’t know that the antis actually get their “panties in a bunch” over the series; they’re just concerned over what their kids consume via books and movies ... I’m going to try to remember to watch Johnnette Bencovic’s show because we’re huge fans of O’Brien; a smart, thoughtful guy, amazing (according to my husband) Catholic writer and incredible painter too ...
I don’t get the beef with Harry Potter, they celebrate Christmas in the books and family is held in high regard
Thinking that some day when I finish a fantasy book and it starts getting criticized, I would make sure to be the loudest critic, under and assumed name, of course. It would keep the name name of the book on everyone’s lips.
But, I would make sure my editor proofread everything I wrote first.
Now if he were complaining about all the various vampire books celebrating being undead as a good thing, then,I’d have to agree. Those books are disturbing and get worse the more the writer “develops” the series.Buffy started out destroying eveil but along the way incorpoated a new Slayer who delighted in bragging of wild sex.Kind of ruins the whole storyline .....
Kevin Smith did that when Dogma came out. He went to one of the Catholic protests of his movie with his own protest sign and was even interviewed by the local news under a fake name talking about how he hadn’t seen the movie but knew it was evil.
not surprised, the article goes right off into kook territory
