Arminian Errors
reformed.org ^ | 2002 | Rev. William MacLean, M.A.

Posted on 03/05/2011 10:46:57 PM PST by OrthodoxKirkPresbyterian

The cardinal doctrines of the everlasting gospel which Arminians wrest to their own destruction are:

(i) THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD IN HIS GRACE;
Cautions Against a Wrong Use of the Doctrine of Election

(ii) TOTAL DEPRAVITY;

(iii) EFFECTUAL CALLING;
Saving Faith
Man's Inability and Responsibility

(iv) THE ATONEMENT; The Universal Call of the Gospel and a Definite Atonement The Sinner's Warrant to Believe in Christ

(v) THE PERSEVERANCE OF THE SAINTS.
The Need for an Uncompromising and Vigilant Witness Against Arminianism

Arminianism was the false gospel of John Wesley and his followers in the eighteenth century, and of D. L. Moody in the nineteenth. It is the stock-in-trade of well nigh all the popular evangelists of this century from Billy Graham downwards. The gospel halls of the Brethren, Open and Closed, are nurseries of Arminianism. The active agents of the Faith Mission and the Salvation Army, notwithstanding the moral and social results to the credit of the latter, spread the plague on every side. All the sects which have sprung up in these latter times, however divergent in their doctrines and practices -- Jehovah's Witnesses, Seventh Day Adventists, Pentecostalists, Mormons, Christadelphians, Cooneyites, etc., etc., have all in common, the fatal lie of free-willism. It is Satan's sovereign drug, which causes the soul to sleep in delusion, and the end of such delusion is death. "Free will," says Spurgeon, "has carried many souls to hell but never a soul to heaven."

This is so true:

Classic TULIP Calvinism. For the other side, listen to a few of the audio audio mp3 files of Steve Gregg debates at www.thenarrowpath.com or theos.org/media

Here is a few quotes from that Article:

" Arminianism is armed to the teeth in enmity to true and vital godliness. Where it flourishes its fruits are a superficial goody-goody form of godliness -- the lamp and the light of the foolish virgins which went out in death and in despair. "

" Arminianism is very much alive in the pulpit, in the theological and religious press, and in the modem evangelistic meeting . . . . . When we bear in mind the horror with which our forefathers regarded Arminianism, the modern attitude to it indicates how far the professing Church has drifted from the position of the theologians of those days." ....

Arminianism is nothing more than a " goodie two shoes " .. " superficial goody-goody form of godliness "
As Paul would say in Romans, a form of ( fake, religiosity, phony ) godliness, but, denying the power thereof ( denying the all sufficiency of the office and the blood of Jesus Christ ).
Even GOD himself denounces this in Isaiah chapter 59.
Even Jesus himself denounces this when we called the fake, phony religious Pharisees " White Washed Tombs full of dead men's bones " .

Just to show the Arminians that I am not just relying on the Apostle Paul's writings, here are the very words of our Savior Jesus Christ himself that it is not by anyone's work's of righteousness, but, in God's righteousness that is a gift given to us.

Luke 5:32 :
GOD'S WORD® Translation (©1995) I've come to call sinners to change the way they think and act, not to call people who think they have God's approval."

Luke 5:32 :

King James Bible
I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

This clearly shows that Jesus Christ is talking about the fake , religious, phony man made righteous Pharisees are not the one's in whom Jesus Christ came for ( i.e., those who think that their right with GOD with their good deeds, work's of prideful man made self righteousness ), but, Jesus Christ came for those who are " poor in spirit " those who know they are sinners, and fall short to what God requires and have need of a Savior.

Matthew 5:20:

New International Version (©1984) For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:20

GOD'S WORD® Translation (©1995)

I can guarantee that unless you live a life that has God's approval and do it more faithfully than the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:20:

King James:

For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed [the righteousness] of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Jesus Christ is making it very clear here that no one will be able to attain Salvation by keeping the law, or by their own works of righteousness, for he even said here that even the religious Pharisees won't be able to enter into the kingdom of Heaven.

OK, if I had to bet my marbles on which side is right, I’d go with the Calvinist position (am an elder in a Presbyterian church, after all), but I think that flogging this dispute, especially to many who don’t understand the tricky philosophical scaffolding involved, does more to harm Christ’s church than to help it. It gets into disputes between Catholic and other Christian denominations, too.

Just like the Catholics’ silly claim that they assembled the Bible (implying that there were Protestants around somewhere back then, boycotting the proceedings), this just fans the flames of division and weakens the Church. Is this the time to encourage fights among us — while so many on Earth are trying to weaken us?

Give it a rest!

Too much hogwash to refute line by line.

Or in the words of Jesus:

“And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.”

Evangelism to TULIP Calvinists amounts to seeking people out to help them determine if God has predestined them to salvation or damnation.

In other words, people are either going to heaven and there is nothing they can do about it, or they are going to hell and there is nothing they can do about it.

Yes, Calvinism, which describes Christianity very well. Arminianism is a sin against scripture and we know what happens to persons who follow this sin.

As an elder you should then be concerned about telling the truth. Arminianism is a lie and denies the very fundamentals of scripture. It is no better in my eyes than Islam or the RCC or Mormons or babbling Pentecostals.

Brother, I believe that Jesus cares more about whether we do what he said to do (see Sermon on the Mount), rather than theological trivia.

A good refutation of the OPC position
