Should I take it, then, that you understand and accept my point, and that you’ve come to understand that the word “Rome” (in this context) is standard shorthand for “The Roman Catholic Church” (according to something you yourself posted a while back)?
If so, then I appreciate your humility in the midst of what could be a needlessly contentious debate.
Take it however it makes you feel better about yourself. But I'd advise you pursue Salvation's recommendation.
The Rites of the Catholic Church [Catholic Caucus]
One and Many Churches (origins of the Church)
THE RITES OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH -- There are many!
(Cardinal) Newman on Rites and Ceremonies
“I agree with statement #1 and further state that the Orthodox form a part of the one, true, holy, apostolic church.”
I am confident that I will be alive to see the East and West reunite.
Good point about Jews; I wouldn’t want to exclude them.
I guess I just forgot about them because I have seen few arguments involving them.
“Lately? You just signed up in February.”
I have spent a a lot of time the past few months lurking on religious threads, though.
“Town hall style open threads have always been raucous. Its how free speech sounds.”
It’s not how Christian decency sounds, though.
“If thats not to your preference, stick to the ecumenical, devotional and caucus threads. Thats how freedom of religion and association sounds.”
I’ve never suggested shutting down or limiting open threads, if that’s what you think. I’m merely suggesting that Christians remember that they are allies and that they actually act like Christians.
I posted it in the religion forum.
I am not denying that there are differences between Christians.
I should have said “Although we have some differences, I consider Orthodox Christians and Protestants to definitely be Christian.”
However, I am just suggesting that we not be as hostile to each other. You may have missed it, but some of these religious threads are truly disgraceful.
Thanks, panaxanax, for your defense of me.
I don’t feel my signing on so recently has much of a bearing on my post. Truth is the truth, no matter who says it.
Motivated solely by hatred and bigotry, I have decided to post a large amount of “vitriol.”

A literal translation from the old Irish text.
I bind to myself today
The strong virtue of the Invocation of the Trinity:
I believe in the Trinity in Unity
The Creator of the Universe.
I bind to myself today
The virtue of the Incarnation of Christ with His Baptism,
The virtue of His crucifixion with His burial,
The virtue of His Resurrection with His Ascension,
The virtue of His coming on the Judgement Day.
I bind to myself today
The virtue of the love of seraphim,
In the obedience of angels,
In the hope of resurrection unto reward,
In prayers of Patriarchs,
In predictions of Prophets,
In preaching of Apostles,
In faith of Confessors,
In purity of holy Virgins,
In deeds of righteous men.
I bind to myself today
The power of Heaven,
The light of the sun,
The brightness of the moon,
The splendour of fire,
The flashing of lightning,
The swiftness of wind,
The depth of sea,
The stability of earth,
The compactness of rocks.
I bind to myself today
Gods Power to guide me,
Gods Might to uphold me,
Gods Wisdom to teach me,
Gods Eye to watch over me,
Gods Ear to hear me,
Gods Word to give me speech,
Gods Hand to guide me,
Gods Way to lie before me,
Gods Shield to shelter me,
Gods Host to secure me,
Against the snares of demons,
Against the seductions of vices,
Against the lusts of nature,
Against everyone who meditates injury to me,
Whether far or near,
Whether few or with many.
I invoke today all these virtues
Against every hostile merciless power
Which may assail my body and my soul,
Against the incantations of false
prophets,
Against the black laws of heathenism,
Against the false laws of heresy,
Against the deceits of idolatry,
Against the spells of women, and smiths, and druids,
Against every knowledge that binds the soul of man.
Christ, protect me today
Against poison, against burning,
Against drowning, against death-wound,
That I may receive abundant reward.
Christ with me, Christ before me,
Christ behind me, Christ within me,
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ at my right, Christ at my left,
Christ in the fort,
Christ in the chariot seat,
Christ in the pupi deck,
Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks to me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.
I bind to myself today
The strong virtue of the Invocation of the Trinity,
I believe in the Trinity in Unity
The Creator of the Universe.
Amen

On that Day, may Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ look at each of us, whatever their denomination, and say, “Yes, this is one of Mine.”
I ask every Christian, whatever their denomination, to pray for me that I may be among these, despite my weakness, corruption, and many black sins.
Yes, true.
Thanks.
Even though I’ve been on only a few days, I can already see where your frustration comes from.
I am not familiar with what the early days of free republic were like.
However, religion is often related with conservatism.
Notice that the description of the site gives God top billing. It only makes sense that religion is discussed then.
Salvation’s post 38 has some good information bout early Christians if you are interested.
“As such we do have ONE common enemy....Satan the devil who is the underlying cause of all divisions and deception.”
Yes, I think the enemies I listed are all tools of Satan.
Eastern Orthodox is what I was referring to.
“Thank you for this thread.”
You’re welcome.
“May you all have a blessed Lent and Easter.”
You too.
Thank you, Celtic Cross.
Yes, there has been a lot of conflict “lately.”
That does not mean there was no conflict before “lately.”
Why don’t you like a thread asking for Christian unity?
You know, the left really loves it when Christians are divided.
I’m seeing more contention than I expected.
Can this thread become ecumenical?
Anytime, my FRiend.
Welcome aboard.
