Christian Unity on Free Republic [Vanity]
WPaCon | March 5, 2011 | WPaCon

Posted on 03/05/2011 5:29:44 AM PST by WPaCon

Lately, there seems to be a lot of conflict on the religion forum. Much of this has been between Catholics, Protestants, and Orthodox. To show that we are all united as Christians and to reduce animosity, I hope we can all agree to one of 4 following statements:

1) I am Catholic. I love Orthodox and Protestant Christians. I consider Orthodox Christians and Protestants to definitely be Christian. All Christians need to work together to defeat our common enemies-- specifically Islam, liberal postmodernism, and totalitarian communism.

2) I am Protestant. I love Orthodox and Catholic Christians. I consider Orthodox Christians and Catholics to definitely be Christian. All Christians need to work together to defeat our common enemies-- specifically Islam, liberal postmodernism, and totalitarian communism.

3) I am an Orthodox Christian. I love Catholic and Protestant Christians. I consider Catholics and Protestants to definitely be Christian. All Christians need to work together to defeat our common enemies-- specifically Islam, liberal postmodernism, and totalitarian communism.

4) I am a non-believer. I love Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant Christians. I consider Orthodox Christians, Catholics, and Protestants to definitely be Christian. All Christians need to work together to defeat our common enemies-- specifically Islam, liberal postmodernism, and totalitarian communism.

I feel confident that most freepers agree to at least one of these statements, even if they do not say so.

If you agree with any of these statements, please feel free to say so.

Thanks!

I agree with statement #1 and further state that the Orthodox form a part of the one, true, holy, apostolic church.

I’m guessing that 90% of the posters on FR would agree on any 4 of the statements but the 10 percent will never have any unity on anything.

They know it all and do not DARE to disagree with them. You know who you are.

I’m a #1 but where is a statement for our conservative Jewish brothers/sisters allies???

God Bless you for your much needed thread.

As the Holy Season of Lent, 2011 is only a few days away, and a Catholic Christian, plus once again, Lent and Easter this year will be observed together by all Christians, we much pray not only for Christian unity, but also for a united Lenten/Easter season.

I would go with the statement in regards to being Catholic and loving other Christians. Thank-you.

“Lately?” You just signed up in February.

“Town hall” style open threads have always been raucous. It’s how free speech sounds. Sometimes it isn’t pretty, but there is nothing to be gained and much to be lost in silencing it.

If that’s not to your preference, stick to the ecumenical, devotional and caucus threads. That’s how freedom of religion and association sounds.

Welcome to Free Republic.

Considering you have been here for less than a month, I suggest that you are no authority on anything that has been going on lately except your own arrival here at FR.

Thank you for not posting this as an excerpt with a link to your blog.

A community of faith has two aspects.

One is that it brings people together who believe the same.

Another is that it leaves out those who do not believe the same.

Some focus on the first part - and that is good because when the Bible talks of a Church it talks of the community of the faithful.

Others focus on the second part. I don’t think that is a very healthy impulse.

I would agree with statement #2 and add my suspicion that some who seek religious divisions are agents of the left.

This post should not be on breaking news and articles.

I consider Orthodox Christians and Protestants to definitely be Christian. All Christians need to work together to defeat our common enemies-- specifically [radical violent] Islam, liberal postmodernism, and totalitarian communism, [and socialism].

Every non-radical Islamist, non-liberal, non-communist non-socialist, decent human person can sign the above, if you eliminate the underlined parts. The reason why you have to eliminate that part is because it is indifferentism a mortal sin, it is condemned in scripture, and a dogma of the Catholic Faith. The Protestants, Orthodox, and Catholics who disagree with each other on this point do so out of CONVICTION, the absolute belief that the other will not be saved in his belief, therefore, they are trying to save their eternal life. That conviction is a sign of true love. Indifferentism is a sign of loss of conviction, and thus loss of any real faith.

When the real bullets start flying you will find that people of conviction, make the best allies and soldiers, even if they are of a different faith.

re: Lately, there seems to be a lot of conflict on the religion forum

Debate is not conflict to those who know what they are talking about.

Character Assassination-is the desperate tactic of those who are frustrated because they are losing the argument, and have no legitimate reply, because they are out of their limited knowledge base.

The tactic of OBSCURING WRITINGS WITH MANY SHORT POSTINGS ABOUT NOTHING - the technique of creating chaff (see*) with countless postings of "nothings conversation", are also a sign of frustrated because they are losing the argument, and have no legitimate reply.

* Chaff - radar-reflective aluminum foil strips ejected from aircraft by the ton, with the intent of deceiving and defeating ground to air threat radar.

At least 20 percent of the conflicts now are not even remotely caused by theology.

They are a spillover from other issues.

>>”Considering you have been here for less than a month, I suggest that you are no authority on anything that has been going on lately except your own arrival here at FR.”<<

We were all ‘newbies’ at one time. I lurked for 2 years before joining FR. Just because someone hasn’t been here since day one does not mean that they haven’t been following the events here at FR.

There is much religious bigotry and outright hatred for people that don’t worship the same as you. The freedom to choose how one worships is their choice and you have no authority to condemn their decision.

I have to agree with WPaCon that the vile rhetoric has increased dramatically of late. Look at the group that live for the chance to attack LDS over their beliefs. They are Christians and they do believe in GOD, JESUS and the HOLY GHOST.

Stop being a FR elitist. Islam is the enemy of Christianity and our efforts should be strongly focused on that issue alone.

What, are new people not entitled to an opinion? Do they need to seek your approval before posting?

You're completely right. Fighting and raging in a manner similar to the hate-filled atheists is not a good way to be.

If one wishes to criticize a forum one just joined, it’s sort of unusual to criticize aspects of that forum of longstanding as if those aspects are recent. They’re not. It might also come across as also rather presumptuous to do so.
