An alarming trend is developing in the Free Republic Religion Forum in which a caucus identifier is being claimed for non-existent or impossibly defined groups. With the caucuses being self defined we see nonsense like the Sola Scriptura Caucus. Of course it doesnt mean all Scripture, only the thread initiators or Forum Moderators definition of Scripture. Jews who believe in the Scripture of the Old Testament are excluded. Mormons, Seventh Day Adventists, and Jehovahs Witnesses are excluded even though they believe in the sufficiency of their own versions of Scripture. The not so transparent purpose of these faux caucuses is clearly to exclude a group of FReepers in a modern day repetition of Whites Only and Irish Need Not Apply prejudice. If this is allowed to stand what will we see next; caucuses so narrowly defined so as to only include ones bridge club or to exclude an individual FReeper? How about a caucus designation for everyone but citizens from New York? How about a mens only caucus? How about a caucus for those of us who drive BMWs? And what is being discussed in these faux caucus threads? Critical doctrinal issues such as ruggedized aircraft, home schooling, and civil unrest in Egypt. Give me a break!
Are you convinced that you are 100% FULL of Holy Spirit 24/7/365?
I sure know I’m not . . .
Semantics becomes a problem at some point . . .
***Semantics becomes a problem at some point***
True enough my FRiend.
When we speak of the Holy Spirit as the deliever of Grace, that is when we run into the problem I illustrated above. We are NEVER more saved than we were when we first put our faith in Jesus.
Do I always feel close to God? Heavens (no pun intened) no! But that is my problem, my own perception/action/feeling. We are, after all told, that we will never be foresaken.
Agreed.
Plenty true.
However . . . folks who . . . persistently put God first more or less in all they do . . . earnestly pray and fast above average . . . tend to
BE
AND
FEEL
CLOSER TO GOD AND MORE FLOWING IN HIS SPIRIT AND WILL
than those who don’t.
well said
yet, those are the words that adventists and others use.
They are also the words used by other churchs.
Or it could be an Arminian losing ones salvation understanding. Either way its an error.
Isnt your Daddy God awfully stingy if only a dozen or so folks of the billions of Christians presently living get to ride Jesses E-Ticket cable car to heaven? Youd think your Daddy God could get tickle more often.
Or is this experience reserved for the uber-spiritual like Jesse and other tongue speakers?
100%!
Nothing about Peter being the rock nor the pope there. Jesus is the cornerstone.
Can we stick to the point? The authority of Jesus is passed on to the Church, not any Reformation rabble.
In the same way, it does not follow that the foundation is identical with the apostles and prophets or that the apostles and prophets are identical with the foundation. Paul is actually referring to the foundation which is laid by the apostles and prophets as is borne out in his 1st letter to the Corinthian Church; a church he, as an apostle, had founded.
Since that is not the view of the Church from the beginning, but a novelty that began in recent years, I will forego your authority and defer to the Church's.
>> “From Gods perspective, evidently, they can go suck rocks.” <<
.
Or Brimstone...
You cannot deny the works of the Holy Spirit without consequences, yet we have our ‘as usual’ denier here on this thread begging the Lord to strike him.
>>I will forego your authority and defer to the Church’s.<<
If you hadnt noticed none of what I gave you was my authority or even opinion. I only gave you scripture, not the interpretation of some authoritarian organization trying to usurp the authority of Jesus.
Arminian churches have their own sacraments.
“Brothers and Sisters, I know you may have had a bad night last night, and God knoooows what you did! Where would be if Jeee-sus came back right now? Before He comes back, I plead with you to walk this aisle and rededicate yourself....”
Just as in your interpretation of Scripture, Dr. E., you got what was actually posted wrong. Stick around; you may, with the Grace of God, actually become Christian.
I gave you Scripture as it was intended. You came back with oblique dueling Scripture attempts. I give you Scripture with the authority of the Church. You give me your own opinions as expressed by snippets which do not address the subject at hand.
I show you the authority of the Church as expressed in Scripture. You keep deflecting your posts into what the Rock actually is. A good way to lose a discussion.
The Catholic Church is an institution run by men, all kinds of men, and it is not THE Chruch Jesus is returning for some day. You’re big on ‘giving what the church says’ you are supposed to believe regarding scriptures, but there are so many man-made tenents where do you draw the line? ... With you, you don’t draw a line, you just swallow it all and tell us ‘the church’ is the authority. And if you doubt what I’m telling you, doa word study of the origins of ‘Lucifer’ in Old Testament translations. [HINT: was invented in second century AD when translating Isaiah 14, not found in the original texts; a whole mythos on Lucifer as satan has been invent over the centuries.]
And in addressing Dr.E, you presume to know, actually know the mind of God, because you presume to tell her she ‘can’ become a Christian, as if you know devinely that she is not! ... pfffft to you
A member of your own church said those who insist on NOT calling themselves Roman Catholic tend to be the more liberal members of that liberal organization.
That's something you've demanded of us, IIRC. To be called "Catholic," and not Roman Catholic.
But if the Holy Spirit indwells us, it is 24/7. And that Holy Spirit is what convicts us of our sins and brings us to repentance and makes us sorrowful for the sins we commit against our merciful Lord.
GAMECOCK: It is the difference between infusion (RCism) and imputation. That is why they go to confession, play with their prayer beads, make pilgramages to obscure artisian wells, etc. They need to top off the grace that was given to them at Baptism. The grace that leaks out with every little sin they commit.
Exactly right.
Imputed righteousness means that EVEN WHEN WE ARE SINNING, God sees the free gift of His Son in us, and forgives us our trespasses against Him.
Every single one.
And as the old man dies, day by day the new man in Christ is sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
