An alarming trend is developing in the Free Republic Religion Forum in which a caucus identifier is being claimed for non-existent or impossibly defined groups. With the caucuses being self defined we see nonsense like the Sola Scriptura Caucus. Of course it doesnt mean all Scripture, only the thread initiators or Forum Moderators definition of Scripture. Jews who believe in the Scripture of the Old Testament are excluded. Mormons, Seventh Day Adventists, and Jehovahs Witnesses are excluded even though they believe in the sufficiency of their own versions of Scripture. The not so transparent purpose of these faux caucuses is clearly to exclude a group of FReepers in a modern day repetition of Whites Only and Irish Need Not Apply prejudice. If this is allowed to stand what will we see next; caucuses so narrowly defined so as to only include ones bridge club or to exclude an individual FReeper? How about a caucus designation for everyone but citizens from New York? How about a mens only caucus? How about a caucus for those of us who drive BMWs? And what is being discussed in these faux caucus threads? Critical doctrinal issues such as ruggedized aircraft, home schooling, and civil unrest in Egypt. Give me a break!
For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved." -- John 3:19-20 "And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
Which has zero to do with what I posted.
"because we cant CONTROL what you Heretics post
Whine whine, whiny whine whine
If you are looking for rational coherent thought...you’re bark’n up the wrong tree.
+1
I hereby concede joyfully — just as soon as I stop laughing — that the non-Catholic-and-proud-of-it side has WAY funnier graphics.
Thanks for the ping. I’ve been reading this thread for a while now, wondering if I should post. I’ll take the ping as a sign I should put in a few thoughts.
I don’t understand the reason for objecting to a Caucus thread of any variety. ? Who cares what a bunch of nut-job Protestants do in a caucus thread of their own design? Put another way, the designation “Sola Scriptura Caucus” can only end badly for the Protestants. We know this is a fact! Why give them reason to “team up against the Catholics” by complaining about it and/or posting about it?
We know that, if such a thread is left alone, it will degenerate into the same kind of infighting that brought about the myriad of Protestant denominations we see today. It may not be on one thread, or in a couple threads, but eventually we KNOW that will happen. Why try to stop it; it would be a wonderful example of what we all know to be fact, in action.
Besides, complaining about it makes us look like we ARE seeking to “control the world through the Vatican”. IOW, it only feeds into the rampant paranoia that is the main source of anti-Catholicism around here. I mean, we all know THAT’s a fact; we all know some on here are quite paranoid.
Why feed such a beast?
That’s my two cents. It’s almost Lent though you know? I think the way the RF has been going lately, with all the crazy anti-Pope anti- Catholic threads popping up like the vermin they are, the only way to really “fight” it is to walk away. Like one of those Chinese finger locks you know? The more you fight the more you get stuck?
What would happen to all these disgusting threads if no Catholic posted to them at all? They’d get 50 replies at most and be forgotten almost the same day they were posted. Replying to garbage like that only returns more garbage.
Garbage in garbage out. Let’s take the trash out for Lent (and maybe never take it back in again). I know I sure won’t be wasting my time on bilge like this during my Lenten journey.
sure you are
If we are posting about them it they might be justified in criticizing, but we aren't. When I confronted them and asked them to post their own thread they didn't want to hear about it. They want to determine the content of a Caucus Thread even though it has nothing to do with them.
“sure you are”
I am sure
Could somebody clue me in on this, please?
This really happened?
If so, in heaven's name, why?
Would "Affirmers of Ephesus and Chalcedon" be a legitimate caucus designation? Why or why not?
I'm just trying to find my footing here in the dimming hope that there is a principle behind all this.
If it is about the faith of that denomination I agree. I saw some of the crash examples you wrote about. I did not realize that had been happening.
If they want to have a caucus that proclaims this erroneous tradition of man they and Muslims follow, I say let them have it.
sorry, you pope kissed the koran, any pastor that did so isn’t currently one of us. Enjoy
Please do not let thin-skinned, crybabies control Free Republic. I LIKE the Religion Forum. If they don't like what's on it, you have a provided a wonderful way to not have to read it. DON'T CLICK ON IT!
lol, lol, lol, 5-year member, lol
Enjoy what? That we aren’t one of you?
