Report: Leading Army Priest Says Chaplains Will Help Soldiers Accept Gay Lifestyles

The deputy chief of chaplains of the United States Army told fellow army chaplains on February 17 that “the upcoming end to ‘don’t ask, don’t tell,’ which will allow openly gay and lesbian individuals to enlist and for soldiers who have hidden their preferences to come out, if they want, means Army chaplains will have a major part in preparing the service to accept the lifestyles of some,” according to an Arizona newspaper’s summary of his remarks.

Father Donald Rutherford, a priest of the Diocese of Albany who holds the rank of brigadier general, reportedly added that “you don’t have to agree with them, you will respect them and help them.”

In 2003, Father Rutherford signed a petition calling for optional celibacy for priests.

Unfortunately the ongoing revelation of sexual abuse by clergy illuminates how many gay or gay positive individuals have been allowed and perhaps even encouraged to enter the clergy. The end of any restriction on gays in uniform will encourage a migration of gay clergymen and women from all denominations into the chaplains corps. This will definitely be one powerful assist in making the armed forces a ‘gay positive’ institution as part of an on going campaign of using the armed services for social experimentation and implementation of various progressive ideas. The goal is to change the whole culture of the military until it is not military but uniformed enforcers of the state's will. This is not well understood by many traditional conservatives. The gradual but profound changes in the culture of the armed services has been underway since McNamara who deeply distrusted the traditional culturally conservative values that most officers subscribed to whether they were politically conservative or , as was not uncommon in 1960, moderately reformist liberals. We have traveled from the ‘officer as leader’ to the ‘officer as manager’ to sexual integration, importation of post modern legalistic norms of behavior versus traditional warrior/soldier ethics and have now arrived at the verge of women in combat units and the gay lifestyle openly encouraged. Tomorrow it will pressure from the political leadership enforced by complaint general officers to not tolerate but celebrate the gay lifestyle. The relentless pressure to make gays the next de facto protected class in uniform along with blacks and women will occur with concomitant pressure to make sure open gays are prominently featured in each officer promotion cycle. A significant part of the unstated reason for doing these things beyond the visceral dislike the left has for any traditional institution is to turn the military into institutions the left does not have to fear and ones that have been transformed slowly but profoundly from conservative to compliantly liberal irrespective of the views of individual officers and NCO’s. If the day ever arrives when the progressives need to use force to hold on to power they want to make sure most of the armed forces will execute their orders to fire on those parts of the nation and the people who are challenging the left’s grip on the state.

But doesn’t Christ say to love the sinner while hating the sin?

You know, I keep hearing this spouted as if it's Scripture, but have never been able to actually find it in the Bible. It's a modern day, Lackadaisical invention.

If given the choice to love Christ (obey him) or "love" homosexuals in the way that they say they should be loved, what are we going to do?

You are so tragically right that it should bring tears to our eyes. If the most powerfully conservative bulwark against liberalism in this country has fallen, what else can stand against this enemy?

St Augustine wrote that phrase. He was showing how you can love your enemies which is what Christ taught. So it is from Christ as an analogy of the how to love your enemies. Love the sinner hate the sin. Of course it’s spiritual love not an unnatural.

Who were Christ's most ardent enemies while he walked the earth? Without any doubt, the Jewish religious leaders ("the Jews," in most translations) were his enemies. And yet, Christ excoriated them time and time again, calling them snakes and vipers, whitewashed sepulchers, and sons of the Devil. Love? You betcha! Not the namby-pamby "love" that's so in vogue nowadays.

If we could only do as well in following His example.

Christ didn’t “teach” this. At best you can argue that Jesus showed grace and mercy to the lost. However, this phrase is horribly used as a mechanism to blunt condemnation of sinful behavior. Christ was very clear that “sin is sin” and that we are to turn from our sinful natures. We are under no command to welcome sinful behavior in those who relish in their acts. Christ’s command is to “go and sin no more”. We are to lovingly share the Gospel with the lost...but if people refuse it, we are perfectly justified in refusing to associate with them. Jesus said in Matthew 10:14-14 “If a village doesn’t welcome you or listen to you, shake off the dust of that place from your feet as you leave. I assure you, the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah will be better off on the judgment day than that place will be.”

Look I'm with you. It can be used wrongly. Tuff Jesus Christ love. I was pointing out where it came from St Augustine. I had a gay cousin who believed it was okay to be active. We would talk. But when he took drugs and started to steal from me I did not talk to him for years. I always prayed for him. He died in a Hospital confessing his sins with two clergy there one catholic another with the nurse's pastor. God is good. Do not give up praying.
