“This is yet another reason that chaplains have become an anachronism of the military. Nobody wants them, nobody will talk to them, they are a waste of money. Defund the damn chaplain corps.”
I can’t let this pass, so I’ll call you on it:
1. What are the other reasons?
2. Why doesn’t anyone want them?
3. Why won’t anyone talk to them?
4. Why are they a waste of money?
Standing by, thanks.
regards,
Chaplain ping.
regards,
1) Because the services are more and more secular, and the chaplains are often goofy liberal freaks. They are a joke.
2&3) They are like an old man with nothing to do just looking for someone to talk to, like you, and once they get started it’s hell getting them to stop. Or like Mormon boys on mission—one may think it’s a nice thing but YOU don’t want to stop what you’re doing to talk to them.
4) They are a waste of money because they’re unnecessary personnel and they aren’t interchangeable. What good is a homosexual episcopal priest to the Roman Catholics who need the Mass?
As a chaplain I had thousands of contact hours of direct one-on-one, couple, or family counseling. I never lacked for soldiers to talk to....who talked with me.
My experience says that you are totally wrong or that you’ve simply had the misfortune of being served by a few chaplains who were on the lower end of the scale.
Chaplains can be a huge resource for a command.
