The Rite, which returns the genre to its Catholic roots, is thoughtfully concerned with questions of faith and doubt, as well as discernment and spiritual warfare. Father Thomas is rightly pleased with its positive portrayal of the institutional Church; its about the most positive Hollywood portrayal of the Church that I can think of in decades, certainly in a supernatural thriller of this type.

I’ve been looking forward to this one. The trailer looks very good. Didn’t we have a story a few weeks ago, about the way the book’s author met the priest who inspired this?
May have ...
Looks interesting, but I do wonder why there have been so many movies about this recently.
why there have been so many movies about this recently
Some theories:
1) Hollywood goes through cycles—think of all the copycat movies after the Exorcist
2) Satan Sells—Sad but true
Hm...it seems to me that a film which asserts the supernatural actually exists isn’t realistic by definition.

Amen to that. Abin Sur, you may find that FR is fairly well full of those who believe in God, and therefore, likewise believe in the existance of the Enemy, Satan. Welcome here, but please keep that in mind.
In the interest of full disclosure it should be noted that I don't have such a belief, although I don't deny the possibility that such a being or beings may exist or at some point in the past have existed (negative atheism as opposed to positive).
Your theories are not unique nor interesting. You lack knowledge of the nature of God and His universe. It is in knowing that truth is revealed.
So very true though I must admit I used to be an Abin Sur for too long. I got a second chance for which I’m very greateful. In retrospect it was a rough hard road without Him. Thankful He gave me the grace to accept His love which filled that big empty hole in my gut.
Abin, He’s waiting for you with open arms filled with pure love. All you have to do is take a step towards Him - not trying to convert you to anything just sharing a little from experience. One day in the near future, on this earth, you will be forced to take sides. I pray you take His side.
Thanks for the post. I’ll check it out.
I have known the presence of the Lord in my life since I was a small child. Your sentiments, Bronxville, are precious. Abin Sur, I join Bronxville in prayer that your life will be touched by the living God and you will be broken to be remade into a new creature, born again of Christ’s love. This is far, far beyond human ability, reason or science. God is greater than all human efforts.
I don't recall asserting that they were unique. As for being interesting, YMMV. Eye of the beholder and all that.
You lack knowledge of the nature of God and His universe.
If God exists, then I certainly lack knowledge of Its nature. If It doesn't, then I don't.
Now what?
As for lacking knowledge of the universe, I have to disagree. I've been reading about astronomy and other scientific fields for decades. While I'm certainly not a scientist, it's fair to say that I have more knowledge of how the universe functions than at least 95% (possibly more) of the populace at large.
But...I don't want to break!
All kidding aside, thank you for your thoughts. I've never been offended by someone sincerely wishing me well, regardless of whether or not I share their belief system.
