First, I am proposing a Catholic Apologetics community here on the Free Republic. Second, I am looking for a volunteer group to be the 'keepers of the list" for this group.
As many of us have seen recently, a small and vocal group of FReepers have taken to trashing the Catholic Faith, the Church and Catholic FReepers. We need to, with charity and truth, defend our Faith.
Please ping me or freepmail me with your thoughts and suggestions. Ditto if you want to be part of the ping list or a keeper of the list.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen
Scripture text: Revised Standard Version - Catholic Edition
Amen.
Caucus threads are closed to any poster who is not a member of the caucus.
For instance, if it says Catholic Caucus and you are not Catholic, do not post to the thread. However, if the poster of the caucus invites you, I will not boot you from the thread.
The caucus article and posts must not compare beliefs or speak in behalf of a belief outside the caucus.
There is no tolerance for posters coming onto a caucus thread claiming that they were once baptized into that belief and therefore are still a member of it due to the belief saying they are - even though they are not active in that belief and notoriously dispute that belief on “open” Religion Forum threads. The same holds for those who claim they are members because of their ancestry even though they are not active in that belief and notoriously dispute it on “open” RF threads.
That behavior is finessing the guidelines, it is flame baiting. No dice.
Also, there is little to no tolerance for non-members of a caucus coming onto the caucus thread to challenge whether or not it should be a caucus. Gross disruption usually follows.
If you question whether the article is appropriate for a caucus designation, send me a Freepmail. I’ll get to it as soon as I can.
Freep-mail me to get on or off my pro-life and Catholic List:
Please ping me to note-worthy Pro-Life or Catholic threads, or other threads of general interest.
This sounds like a great idea to me. I’m definitely interested.
narses, I’m not sure how this would work.
Generally apologetics is to explain the faith and if the only people allowed are already Catholic . . . ?
Of course I know that I cannot go to the open threads. It becomes an occasion of sin for me. Won’t be doing that again any time soon. lol
How would this work? I’m not sure I get it.
Me too. Very tempting, and sometimes I give in.
Of course I know that I cannot go to the open threads. It becomes an occasion of sin for me. Wont be doing that again any time soon. lolTakes up half my confessional time. :)
First this thread can become a repository for links to resources. Second, the new pin list can be used to bring groups of like minded faithful to the threads that need their charitable defense of the Faith. Third, knowing that we are here, perhaps the few fringe haters will abate their behavior as their poisons get refute rapidly and regularly.
Also, for those to whom the hatred and vitriol ARE an occasion of sin, NOT being on the ping list will help shield them from the fray.
Hmmmmmm.....good ideas.
Repository is my thoughts and what would work for me. I am trying to gather as much info as possible because my small head cannot hold it all...
I appreciate your initiative on this, Narses. Are you thinking that this will be a place to bring up abuses in our parishes, or articles in the news, that need analysis, such as Fr. Zuhlsdorf engages in? For example, let me kick it off right here: The 2nd in command in my diocese was saying Holy Mass at my parish this past Sunday, and gave a talk in the afternoon. He used the phrase “Father Son , and Spirit twice - once in the Final Blessing, and once in the talk. Have any of you heard of liberals dropping the appendage “Holy”?
You got it. I think it affects my blood pressure as well. ;-p
jobim, Have you thought about complaining about your hearing? How you wish he could speak up just a bit because you only hear part of the blessing. And that it sounds like he is leaving off Holy in front of Spirit and you know he would never do that.
It’s an old St. Francis trick. There was a priest in a parish in a forbidden relationship and St. Francis was told about it. So he went to the priest and knelt before him and told him how thankful to God he (St. Francis) was for such a wonderful priest. That he was a gift. And the priest reformed and became the holy man that St. Francis told him he was.
There is a deacon in my parish, God bless him, who whenever he gives the blood of Christ to me says:
My name; the blood of Christ.
He knows better than that and I am not sure what to say to him. I don’t know if he does it with others or just me. Suggestions would be welcome.
As I have said numerous times, the issue is not so much doing apologetics, the issue basically comes down to having an endless bickering contest with people who just arent interested in the truth. You are not convincing them. They are not convincing you. You are not converting them. They are not converting you. You think you are defending Holy Mother Church. They think they are knocking irrefutable holes in the whore of Babylon.
There is no reason for these 3, 4, or 10,000 post long threads other than to provide an opportunity to drag us into sin.
To repeat once again:
Sirach 8:4 (DRB) Strive not with a man that is full of tongue, and heap not wood upon his fire.
Sirach 8:3 (RSV-CE) Do not argue with a chatterer, nor heap wood on his fire.
Sirach 8:3 (NAB) Dispute not with a man of railing speech, heap no wood upon his fire.
Genuine apologetics, fine. Absolutely. No problem. But getting in an argument for arguments sake, no thanks.
They would have to be posted as a Catholic Caucus and in the least as Ecumenical.
Agreed.
