One Mediator Between God and Men: CHRIST JESUS
2010 | God's Word

Posted on 12/03/2010 4:14:50 PM PST by bibletruth

1 Timothy 2:5 ...one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

There is NO debate here: God's Word clearly points out who the mediator is between God and men: i.e., Christ Jesus

If you believe in God's Word, who is Christ Jesus: The Word of God, then 1 Timothy 2:5 will be easily be understood as Christ the mediator.

Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.

Quix, posting ‘words’, IMO, doesn’t reach some. They need a picture book, lots of pictures - even English isn’t good enough - they need ‘plain English’ - seems the comprehension level is low.

"You have to learn on your own just like I did."

So much for the promises God made to us then, eh? You get to be saved because you worked it all out on your lonesome. No Church, no clergy just you and your pride filled zeal. Sorry buckwheat, no sale. That is NOT what Our Lord taught, it is not what His appointed Apostles taught nor is it what the Apostolic successors taught, either in Holy Writ or in other teaching.

Wow ... this thread is alarming. During one of the holiest times of the year, Christians behaving like non-Christians toward one another. Sad, really.

At this time, I am offering up a prayer for all of the participants on this thread that they will treat one another with love ... even in disagreement.

God bless you all and have a very Merry Christmas.

That bears repeating.

When I saw the title and the OP's name, it wasn't difficult to predict what the real substance the thread was, and how it would degenerate. It's so typical of this place.

It's also rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

While the various factions inceasingly hurl at the others whatever accusation is handy, whether it be true or false, our formerly (at least nominally) Christian culture continues to slip away. Our families are in decay, with rising divorce and illegitimacy rates; pornography and blasphemy permeate our art and entertainment; unborn children continue to be exterminated; the liberals are beyond hope, and the conservatives seem to have no stomach for cultural or even Constitutional preservation. In the name of some imagined "national security", we entangle ourselves in unwinnable wars, which we can't afford because we're already financially (as well as morally) bankrupt, due to the corruption of our economic system; and in the same name both sides of aisle will do nothing to reign in the erosion of our rights by a Leviathan government which has embraced a kind of soft totalitarianism.

Where can we realistically turn in hope except to the Word Made Flesh, the Incarnation which we are preparing during this Advent season to celebrate? And yet, what do we find here? Self-identified Christians who can think of nothing better to do than to sling mud at one another, apparently under the assumption that if enough is slung, something's bound to stick. Neither side cares to seek to understand the other, dare I say it, to love the other, to say nothing of working out a modus vivendi; it's just a matter of scoring points, of counting coup. Is this some religious variant of the silly idea that "he who dies having scored the most points, wins"? Wins what, exactly? It can't be eternal life, because that requires actually keeping the Commandments rather than luxuriating in the deadliest of the Seven Deadly Sins, viz., pride.

Do you know the carol "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day"? The lyrics are attributed to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Typically, we only get to hear the first two verses:

I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

I thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along the unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

But the third verse is darker in tone:

And in despair I bowed my head:
"There is no peace on earth," I said,
"For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men."

This is where the Religion Forum is mired, and has been, apparently, for years. The question is, will the exigencies of our political and cultural situation motivate us to move past this point, or not? Because the carol doesn't end there; it goes on:

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
"God is not dead, nor doth he sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail,
With peace on earth, good will to men."

Till, ringing singing, on its way,
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime, a chant sublime,
Of peace on earth, good will to men!

I long for the day, especially in this holy season, when we can say together:

"O, House of Jacob, come!
Let us walk in the light of the Lord."
(Is. 2:5)

"As such we can bring our petitions to God directly?"

Your relationship with God is directly with Him. The Church does not intercede or interfere with that relationship even in cases of excommunication.

"No. your argument is with the word of God when one says there is any other priesthood than the priesthood of the believer in the NT church."

Then what business is it of yours? Do you make it a practice to butt into God's business and usurp His judgment on every issue or only where Catholics are involved?

"You have no authority to interpret scripture BTW"

Does that mean that the Protestant clamoring on about each being individually guided by the Holy Spirit in the interpretation of Scripture was just a bad joke?

Actually, for 20 centuries the vast bulk of Catholicism has believed the opposite.

Catholicism does not equate to Christianity.

Broad is the way that leads to hell and many are there who find it.

Lots of people believing something doesn’t make it right or true.

So much for the promises God made to us then, eh?

Where are the promises God proclaimed?

You get to be saved because you worked it all out on your lonesome.

Inserting your own thoughts about what I said is mind reading.

No Church, no clergy just you and your pride filled zeal

I'd tell you but your sarcasm got you nowhere.

. Sorry buckwheat, no sale.

I'm not selling anything - and what I HAVE ISN'T for sale, either!

That is NOT what Our Lord taught, it is not what His appointed Apostles taught nor is it what the Apostolic successors taught, either in Holy Writ or in other teaching.

There is no other teaching but from God's Word. Back to my original comment - find out on your own. However, your buckwheat comment says alot about an unteachable spirit.

“Back to my original comment - find out on your own.”

Not possible, but God did lead me to His Universal Church and I have been Baptized and Confirmed in His Church. When your pride gets erased and you ask Him for guidance, He will do the same for you.

So you claim. For 20 centuries the vast bulk of Christendom has believed the opposite. You are simply wrong.

It matters what God says. It doesn't matter what so many people believed for however long.

Consensus doesn't make truth.

“It matters what God says.”

Yep, and He gave us His Son, His Apostles and His Church. You reject that. Very sad.

Matthew 6:5-13 “When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.

“But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

“And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words.

“So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.

“Pray, then, in this way:
‘Our Father who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
‘Your kingdom come
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
‘Give us this day our daily bread.
‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.]’

So it seems.

LOL.

I’m trying to bolster and rachet up my image collection accordingly.

Maybe we should petition Mary ourselves for larger shipments of White Hankys to the RC’s . . . given all the drools and all.

here Paul himself commands us to pray to GOD....

Philippians 4:5b-7 The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Not possible

Obviously, not possible for you.

God doesn't lead anyone towards tradition. But HE does LEAD them AWAY from it! Thank you, God.

"Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down.." Mark 7:13

God did lead me to His Universal Church and I have been Baptized and Confirmed in His Church

He doesn't have a universal church - that's catholic lingo. Yeah, I was baptized, confirmed and married in the RCC counterfeit church. Big whoop! And God led me away from it and what a blessing that was!

And judging by your posts and massive fails, just makes me want to THANK HIM one more time! Thank you, Jesus for YOUR WORD!
